i love da sound hear.Who I must findout was BigStar. You guys check out SParks, siouxsie did this town but they are a great AMERICAN BAND Kimono my house and stufffrom 70's early 80's most interesting!
Oh my my my I'm following the trail of this incrediby beautful song and I never knew.I only hear Coil's version and didn't even know Big Star did it first.I've been living under a rock!
Didn't really like Jeff's version ...which is rare for me and will keep listening to all of them ..But so far..TMC and Big Star ar my faves...TMC 's version has a haunting ...distanced quality that I was drawn to at first.
After listening to the original (Big Star's) for 25 or so years, I'm just discovering these newer versions. kristlkrost: that's one of the great things about music--how you can move foward and backward through time. And to each time, each new listener, the music is born anew.
@kristlkrost TMC's is by FAR the best...but I like Buckley's version too. I especially think it's cool, since his dad wrote Song to the Siren. Interesting to have a weird 3-way TMC connection like that.
I have heard him do a version of Cocteau's Ivo as well...so I guess that kind of makes it a 4-way connection :)
I listened to this because I like This Mortal Coil's version and I have to say this blows the big top! What the hell happened to his voice? The guitar is even out of tune! It's a shame because I've always liked his music. Well, back to This Mortal Coil, then.....
i never thought that anyone of a younger age group would ever find this song and do it so beautifully. I love beck. But as I said on my myspace bulletin, I used to love him before, but now I ADORE HIM. Beautiful rendition, it makes me want to cry even more than the original. And regarding the original, I miss you, Andy Highland. Where the hell are you? Where have you been? Jana and I have been worried about you. Severely. This is your song, it has always been your song. I miss you.
nice creed impression. lol srsly tho nothin beat the big star version.

kristlkrost, I agree with you about Jeff Buckley's version - it's way over the top. Love Beck's take on this song.
Incidentally, I used to own the Big Star's vinyl album and on the label this song was originally listed as Kanga Roo.

It's a damn good version. Damn good. For that matter, this version is pretty nice, too!
But for me, the original is so amazing.
