i went to my first DCI show in Houston a few days ago, all 8 drum corps sounded amazing but Phantom Regiment was the only one to make my mouth drop in awe of their sound, i was absolutely floored.

WOW! is all I have to say about this performance. It was about time they finally let Phantom do what they did in 1978, 1979, 1982, 1983... and many more years that were taken away from them... WIN. There was NO DENYING that this was the most perfect show ever put on a drum corps field (maybe with the exception of Star of Indiana's shows). I am greatful to Dan for deciding to put this show on the field 1 more time and making it the best year for PHANTOM REGIMENT!

I thought that Phantom sort of redeemed themselves. Into the Light was beautiful at finals. It made me and all the other open class corps open our eyes a little, certainly more so than BD's show......plus they won high drums(noice)

BEST OPENING EVER! I will *never* forget that night at finals. The Cavs just finished and on exit passing Phantom did a little horn thing..cute...A few seconds later this guttural roar (I have never heard anything like it...) came from Phantom before they came out.....WOW. Those kids kicked some serious butt that night....Then by shear fortitude and inner strength they won..This is what Drum Corps is all about. Sorry but BD show that year was just plain boring - at least it was for me...

God 2008 was such a good DCI year. I can't pick a favorite.. I loved Spartacus and Samurai. Both amazing shows, very very tough to pick a winner.. I'm not sure how BD was 2nd though, I thought their show was boring - the drum break.

This was a very good show. It shoudn't have won though. It was a 4th place show at best. Blue Devils, Cavaliers and Carolina Crown had better performed shows by far. Still one of my favorite Regiment shows tho.

But as far as the crowd's concerned, Spartacus was the king of DCI for 08. A lot of Phantom bandwagoners came on after this show... I guess The Red Violin was intended to shake them off?

@KHorbust Spartacus was good, 1st place good. Better than BD and the Cavies. So was 2003 and 2007. Regiment should have gotten 1st in 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2008. 2009 I think was maybe a 2nd or 3rd place show. Not 9th.

With 2009, you have to keep in mind two things:

1. 40% of the corps aged out. One of the biggest in DCI history.

2. New visual director... and a pretty crappy one. Listening to the show, it's great. Watching it... is bad.

You know when The Academy and Pacific Crest score near Phantom, that Phantom's done something wrong.
