@nickt916 The person this guy bought his wheels from sold him lug nuts with the wrong thread type. The owner of the car torqued all of the lugs down with a torque wrench and double checked, but since the threads were incompatible, they slipped and off the wheels came.

It's not the owner's fault. He bought the lug nuts know from a reputable shop. The nuts were a little too big in diameter, so they were holding on to the studs by the very tip of the threads, just enough to be able to be screwed in. But as soon as there was load applied to them the tips sheared off and away the wheels went. Sounds crazy that all wheels fell of simultaneously, but when the first wheel went all the load was redistributed to the other three wheels so they also sheared instantly.

Same thing happend in Sweden, but here there was too small nuts that was the problem. The holes in the rims just got a little bit bigger because of the wear and all four wheels came of at the same time. =)
