  • at 0:45 it looks like one of my quails called fluffy he was on the left corner on the bottom

  • Biuuuuuu.......Bee Boo Boo

  • I have a "pair" of buttons and they both raise up the head and call like that. That means that they are both males??

The one is totally white with a yellow pick and bigger than the other so i thought it was a female...

  • That's great! very adorable. I love all birds!

  • so cute mine dont sing like that they sing a few more times each i mine are chinese painted quails and silver quails

  • Soo adorable! My quail is japanese. Except he's not as loud as yours.

  • Haha so cute!! I have japanese, they don´t sing this loud and well!

  • @FearStriker100 no i don't have any yet. but i saw some in a pet shop last week and i really want a couple.

i think they like to mate in pairs though? orwould prefer 2 females and a male? theres a coupla uk forums around tells you a lot?

  • AWWWAAWWWAAWW! SO CUTE!

  • @FearStriker100 not much i woudn't of thought. about a tenner? a lot of pet shops have them. i saw some the other day but they looked very very stressed. am thinking of getting them outta there to be honest. but newspapers may advertize.

  • Funny! ARRRAAHH! I replayed it!

  • I love playing this video, and hearing my male button quail crow! It's hilarious!! I'll have to do a video response :)

  • have you ever sold the botton quail eggs ove the mail. if so ill buy many eggs from you. thanks.

  • @charliesweb1k Thank you Charles but no I haven't sold any eggs. I really did not get into the hobby to sell eggs. Besides you have to get special cartons and they are sold by large lots. Sorry.

  • Can you help me with a question? My Chinese quail eggs hatched and now the chicks are full grown. I have about 5 males and 3 females. Can i keep all the males together like you have done, away from the girls, or will they fight. Years ago I had 2 males in my budgie aviary and, after living together a few months, one suddenly killed the other one!

  • @TheVortex3 .........lol.....now i have 40 button quails and don't need them but this was when i only had 2 buttons..lol..long time no talk with you.

  • its so cute! ^.^

  • Is someone sneezing?

  • I remember 1 time my quails were singing at 2am.

  • what's the best way for me to introduce a female quail to a male one??? I had a pair but the male picked on her back and made her bleed, sadly she died a few days later :( the cage is huge enough for them two, i just don't want him to live a lonely life, thanks!

  • @kev485 Males are hugely territorial. Take the male out. Change the cage around (replace the bedding, move things around) put the fem in first. After a while maybe about an hour or so put the male in. This way he will not feel it's his territory for the female would have been there first. I understand about your concern reference loneliness. My little Boy Dan passed this year, DeeDee is now alone, I do not want to put her with the rest since she is elderly & don't want to risk her safety.

  • how can you tell if they are male??? some males have that white and black marking and some don't...

  • @URAbunnylover2 Correct ! You can tell males by the masks on their face or by red feathers around the vent area. Regarding the masks the ones with the white markings on the black bib are the Normal Button Quails. The ones with the black bib with no white or the thin white outline are Red Breasted Buttons. Some people call these black bib ones Darth Vaders...don't ask me why. Thanks for your question.

  • @DanDeeDee Thank you! I asked that because I've seen videos where they say their button is male and I didn't see masks. I got SO confused! I have buttons myself. They are 3 weeks old. The thing is, I can't tell their genders apart yet. When will I? They are assorted Chinese painted Quail. So will the males have those 'Darth Vader' bibs or the normal white and black ones? I'm a beginner and I'm learning with my adorable quail ^^ still in the brooder :D

  • @URAbunnylover2 Congrats on you babies. I would say about 5-6 weeks you should be able to tell. The hardest ones to tell apart are the white ones...very hard to sex. The chocolates you can tell by the redish feathers around the vent (behind) area. All the others the face gives their gender away, even the greys have the very pale mask for the boys. Good luck and God bless you. Enjoy them.

  • I noticed you had a waterbottle hanging on the cage.I was wondering do they actually drink from it?And do you think mine would if I put one in the cage, cause mine keep knocking the bowl over.

  • @ESdarez Yes they drink from the water bottle. I suggest putting it in first while keeping your present bowl in the cage. When you have time during the day squeeze (lightly pump ) the bottle a little bit so a water droplet goes in and out of the tip (you don't water to drip from it just the droplet to go in and out). Their curiousity will lead them to the tip and discover the water source. Once several of them have learned to drink from it the rest will follow suit.

  • yes this is soooo awesome i have to button quails - i let them run around the house while the dogs are outs of course i wanted to train them better any advice?????

  • @dramatics89 I wouldn't want to let them have the freedom of the house, too many dangers for them. Pets are one, possible insecticides or things they can disappear behind, get lost or get hurt.

  • whats your opinion on button quails? im stuck between bobwhites and buttons.

  • @dragonnagasan I chose buttons for their compact size and easy care. I love the bobwhite's call however. I guess it's up to personal choice. Good luck.

  • @dragonnagasan I chose buttons for the convenience of size and care. Bobwhites, however, have a wonderful call. I guess it's up to personal taste. Good Luck!!!

  • @dragonnagasan It's a matter of preference For me it was their compact size and color variety.

  • I got two female quail today and am gonna get a male in a few days (from different breeder so they are unrelated...)

Anyways, my brown female did that today, three times and really loudy. She had been in her new home only about five minutes... was she just calling out to see if there were any other quail around?

  • @michaelaaa7 If you notice in the video there is a different call after you hear the boys do theirs, those are the females. They will do that to attempt to find others, in your case a possible male. Good luck !

  • @michaelaaa7 Sounds like she may have been calling out for a boy. Females do have their own call, which they put out there for an available suiter. Good luck!

  • It's so sad to see the quails like this. They live strictly monogamic and need a lot more space (in Germany one sqm is regulated by the animal protection law). That is why they have no feathers on their back. They have so much stress that they peck each others feathers out.

  • @ThePrisemuth I agree with you. I dislike very much when animals are crowded into small spaces as well, but what you are commenting on was very temporary. I welcome you to view their aviary which they were let go in the following day. It's nice and roomy, 12 ft Wide x 4 ft High x 4 ft Deep with levels to climb. They really enjoy it. Thank you for your post.

  • @DanDeeDee Good to hear that the quails now have more space, although it's still the problem that they live all together. The main problem with videos like this is, that people think it is the right way to keep them and the comments here confirm that ("I'm hoping for a trio", "1male and 3female"). Don't want to offend anybody, but in the wilderness they would never live in a group - they live always as a pair. If one wants a little flock of quails, buy some Coturnix japonica (cut + confiding)

  • @ThePrisemuth

Maybe since they were hatched together and have always been with each other I would have thought otherwise. They are always laying on top of each other when sunbathing and even in the sand box they enjoy huddling together. I never took them for being anti-social, but then again they are not in a wild environment. I would not enjoy seeing them fighting or hurting each other. They are all healthy, no fatalities since I've had them over 1 year and I still have all 77 of them.

  • They are so cute! I am thinking about building an outdoor avary and putting 1 male and 3 female chineese painted quails in it with my parakeets. I can't find info anywhere if this is advisable. Do you know if they coinside with each other?

  • @imra316 i have quails and parakeets living in the same aivery, and the're fine

  • @chutchybo You should be okay. I would add any other hookbills though. Loverbirds for example can be very aggressive.

  • @chutchybo They should be fine, but don't add other type of hookbills, for example Lovebirds and be really aggressive.

  • @DanDeeDee can you tell me how to sex the grey ones pls

  • A glass tank might need a little fan to vent out the gas of ammonia that can build up and end up harmful to the little quails

  • @EspritIsland I do not use aquariums, these are home made cages made w/plastic storage bins with cut out tops, sides , and back for ventilation and a plexiglass front.

  • So, the boys are making the sound when their necks go up....and the female is the one going "weep weep weep"? lol I have 2 making that noise and I'm hoping for a trio but since their whites I cant tell from color. These are my first buttons. Thanks!

  • @BugsBarnyard

Yea, the whites are very hard to tell apart. I'm only certain of one of my whites cause she was the only one that was in a group of females that was laying and I actually saw her laying and producing an egg after she got up, otherwise I can't tell them apart either. Good luck with your buttons, they are so enjoyable...I love mine...all 79 of them.

  • i hear a female...

  • I'm sure you do...and I wouldn't be surprised if there is more than one calling/answering. The boys were in a group of about 30 (born from an incubator)...and I still have them...ALL.

  • Sometimes they may stop laying. Try putting them out of the cage in a different cage or holding container. Then put them back after and hour or two. Dont' ask me why but I did this without intending anything by it and the next thing I know they started laying again after taking a holiday off.

  • Hi, do your button quails lay eggs now?

i had my button quails for about 3 month!

and they layed only one egg about a month ego!
