The LHC was created for us to have an insight on what the Big Bang was like 13.7 billion years ago during the hadron era of the universe; this is when quarks and antiquarks began combining to form hadrons, mostly including baryons(protons and neutrons), antibaryons, and mesons. Which was roughly only 1 microsecond after the Big Bang. To say its the end of the world is only of the feeble minded. This might just prove the Big Bang correct with the substantial information they will recieve

I agree that money should go towards space travel or new propulsion technology but this experiment will further the human race understanding of particle physics. Who knows, maybe we'll discover a way for FTL by such experiments, maybe we'll blow ourselves up, either way its still advancing the human race in the scientific realm.
