@ShortTrackNews Harry Gant and Buddy Arrington were the priorities, back then there wasn't nearly as much safety vehicles at the track so they had to prioritize
If you think that was dumb, look at Kevin LePage's move at Talladega Super Speedway in 2008. That was without a doubt the dumbest move in racing....EVER. Whats worse, we see NASCAR fine guys boatloads of money and suspend crew chiefs for loose bolts and fractions of inches of bodywork, and yet people like LePage get no more than a tongue lashing for causing accidents like he did.
Buddy was a true Mopar man...he drove Dodges after the Dodges were gone. He ended up having to switch his cars to Fords with Bill Elliott even giving him some slightly used cars.
Rick Baldwin was kill be brain injury after 11 year in coma... From a crash in the next race, replacing Arrington... So, why Nascar don't but the driver in the middle of the car?
Yeah, I knew that, just thought that MAYBE the guy would have sense to stay in the grass..Its Common Sense. I'm glad they have rules in place now to stop this type of stuff from happening.
In a further clarification--they syndicated events to local stations on a tape delay basis, some track owners felt that live TV would hurt their gate. The tracks they covered included Martinsville, Rockingham, Pocono, and Charlotte.
In 1991, they released a VHS tape packed with crashes from the events they covered.
@Ruddfan1997 No, it was actually called the Special Events Television Network. I've never found anything on it, but I believe it was absorbed by ESPN in 1988 but again I'm not sure.
Tim Richmond was a helluva driver.

Harry Gant had the worst luck that year. Things like this (dumb wrecks in front of him) happened to him all year.

Rick Baldwin was kill be brain injury after 11 year in coma... From a crash in the next race, replacing Arrington... So, why Nascar don't but the driver in the middle of the car?

retarded move by arrington by trying to turn around on the track rather than turning around on the grass
carguysn 4 years ago
This wreck inadvertantedly caused Rick Baldwin's death; he was entered into Arrington's car while Buddy was injured.
Ebessankamen 4 years ago
Rick Baldwin's wreck occured at Michigan, this took place at Pocono.
IllinoisHighwayMan 4 years ago
What I meant to say, is that Arrington was injured and had to be replaced at Michigan (by Baldwin), which is when Baldwin died.
