I agree! It's a shame O'Toole has never received an Oscar, it's almost unbelievable that such a good actor as he is has never received this award. Peter O'Toole is, for me, and for many people one of the key celebs.
They never played the game. For O'Toole, I believe he played the game once when he was in the running for Florence of Arabia. Didn't win--and what a travesty it was. There was a case of a man who was too beautiful to be taken seriously; a little like Jude Law.
It is absolutely idiotic that Sir Peter O'Toole has never received an Oscar for best actor or supporting actor, it is outrages and bloody incompressible.
Sir Peter O'Toole is one of the few best actor that ever was.
Yes, it is a complete travesty. There are so many great actors (Richard Burton is another one) and filmmakers (Hitchcock, Kubrick, Penn) out there who never received an Oscar.
@JonathanBorgogelli : Totally agreed. Idiotic doesn't begin to describe it. I almost broke down crying when they passed him over for 'Venus' in 2007; even if he had sucked in that movie (and he was AMAZING and fully deserving over Forrest Whitaker) they should've given him to avoid passing him over EIGHT times - and to apologize for the embarrassment of not recognizing his genius in 'Lawrence Of Arabia' and 'The Lion In Winter'.
@JonathanBorgogelli Agreed. But that Masada movie is based on falsehood: the Jews never surrendered and battled to the last man and woman standing. Rome lost.
@JonathanBorgogelli i know some people who disagree with me, but how he lost to Lawrence of Arabia i'll never know. he was just beyond perfection & beautiful in it.
This is great, thank you! Love Peter O'Toole, he was my first celeb crush when I was a little girl. I wish you'd put up a vid with that line where he says to the "zealots," "Here's your victory...ENJOY IT!!!"

Peter O'Toole (in a kilt): "Are you Richard Burton?"
Peter Sellers: "No, I'm Peter O'Toole."
Peter O'Toole: "Then you are the finest man that has ever breathed."

That Peter O' Toole has never won an Oscar is in and of itself proof that Oscars are pretty much hit and miss popularity bullsh*t. That is all.

Why do you all say it's a shame. An award's merit can only be based on its recipients and those who were not?

O'toole was one of the most underappreciated actors ever
Felix1049 2 years ago
Agree: one of the strongest and most versatile dramatic actors of the last century. When he did comedy, he was
drop dead funny as well. He did get some
kind of lifetime achievement Oscar in 2003: it was well deserved. That's a clip
here too.

I loved O'Toole in the Ruling Class.
