  • minunat cover!

  • beautifully well done

  • @matthewceedy you know nothing. Go read Deborah curtis' on the life of ian curtis and come back. Not everything is always good. Love will tear us apart

  • Instead of the deep abyssmal feeling I get from Joy Division, this version reminds me that no matter how much it hurt, ill always be alright.

  • I broke up with my partner during this song! thanks Jose!!

  • @vyceapparel shit, me too, just 1 hour before i found this epic interpretation.makes me feel filled with love for the world and the future, somehow.

  • I'm glad this song still matters to people.

  • love JD saw them once in Liverpool ! this is a good cover of a great song but not JD's best !!

  • this moron does nothing but ruin the songs he covers. ffs, stop mr gonzalez. jesus wept, youre ruining them.

  • @stephenp1968 You're ridiculous. Gonzalez is a true talent, and I enjoy his covers. Judging by his fanbase, it seems they do as well.

  • @MartinGSoyYo I dont give a shit what anyone else thinks. I hate it, and Im entitled to voice my opnion same as anyone else.

  • this is just like any one singing round a campfire with a guitar...

  • @missadamlambertx Wow, dude, I would love to go camping with you!

  • I'm a fan of Jose, more so than joy division, but I feel the emotion of the song was lost in this cover.

  • brilliant

  • No beard! hehe :)

  • this song is just so great!

  • Very good cover.

  • If I wanted to listen to JD, I'd listen to JD. Instead, I'm listening to Jose Gonzalez. I think it's a great cover, in the sense that it doesn't sound like the original song. Why? Because it's not supposed to. It's a cover. I don't want to hear the exact same version of the song. I want to hear how it's interpreted. Music is a universal language, but we all interpret it differently. And covers are a perfect example of this.

  • He looks so cute here :)

  • I am a robot! I am a robot routine runs high! EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE

  • That was brutal

  • Poignant to say the least in recent events...

  • I'm a big JD fan.

Though I really really love this version.

I admit being pretentious. But not an asshole, please.

  • Love this acoustic version. His voice is honey to my ears...

  • Great voice and guitar playing :)

  • something about the way this guy plays and sings is just WOW :)

  • His taste is impeccable; he sure picks great songs to cover...

  • Im a massive Joy Division fan and this is an amazing cover - Jose is a huge influence on us acoustic musicians

  • Really, i don't understand you all. I think, THIS IS FANTASTIC!

  • See the Jose Gonzalez with the Divine comedy @ Greenwich Summer Sessions on 26th July in the beautiful grounds of the Old Royal Naval College tickets selling fast greenwichsummersessions.co.uk...

  • He's a great player but that is shit !

  • Great cover of one of the greatest bands of all time - Manchester's finest!

  • This song is absolutely outstanding.

    Btw.

    /watch?v=1n9mEhW3-GE

If you have some time for my instrumental indie rock music. Take care!

  • wow, he really takes all of the power, danger, and feeling out of this song. Utterly tame.

  • i like the end lol

  • 1:14 "You've done a wee on yourself"

  • you shitty joy division fans make joy division look bad. how can i like a band with such a shitty stuck up fan base?

  • @TonyOnlyandFriends I am a longtime fan of Joy Division. I think this is a nice HOMAGE, but to make a GROSS statement. That their fans are shittym because of a few idiots is SHITTY.

  • i love him xxxx

  • It's become far too cool to like Joy Division. The original of this is probably my favourite song and this is a really nice cover. It keeps the spirit of the song. If someone had remixed into a trance or a hard house track then I could understand the hostility.

  • More!!!

  • I love Joy Division, and this cover too

  • he sounds like a bored street busker

  • why dont some of you understand that when an artist covers a song they arent necessarily trying to make it better than the original? they cover the song because they like it and want to make it their own.

  • this is kinda awesome. i do love joy division.

  • he's really good but for me it's not the same song without the backing sound (dunno which instrument) i hope you know what i mean:) and i'm not a joy division fan:D

  • You angry Joy Division fans need to lighten up.

  • this is fucking sick and im a joy division fan

  • not good. no one will match ian.

  • @MrStewartisme you're right no one will match ian. but the thing is that jose doesn't want to match him. he just does a very good cover of an outstanding song. nothing more nothing less.

  • hes good but his twist on the song is just bad sounds like he should be saying love will keep us together.

  • first listen, nope, second listen still...nah

  • /watch?v=toBMOBsqROM

  • this is really good

    better than the FOB crap...

  • great job from a joy division fan :)

  • Seems most people clicked this video purely to try and find something to dislike.

  • It's Jose's interpretation of the original. He's being true to his style. I like both versions, and Yes, I'm Joy Division / New Order / Electronic / Monaco fan.

  • favourite cover of this song :D

  • It's not that he's 'not arsed', he always plays with that sort of reserved interest, even with his own songs because that's who he is.

  • Why is the bedroom so cold

    Turned away on your side?

  • I think Ian would have appreciated being covered by a wonderful artist. I am a Joy Division fan more than I am a Gonzalez fan, but I think covering a song is the ultimate respect to the original artist.

  • singing it like hes not arsed, have some respect.

  • 'This Sweet Love' by PANIC up now !!! For fans of Jose Gonzalez !!

  • why does it have to be one way or the other? Joy division is great, Jose gonzalez is great. Sometimes you just wanna play a song you love on your guitar. i think thats about it, lol.

  • I swear, as much as I love Joy Division, their fans are probably the most pretentious assholes on the internet. God damn.

  • @brandnewshoesfool have you tried brain eno fans yet?

  • @brandnewshoesfool yeah nice one, bet you are a yank. yes american before you ask. idiot.

  • @scottjwilson1987 But like...you just proved my point.

  • @brandnewshoesfool Well to be honest. I adore Joy Division. But when did Ian Curtis sing this like he was arsed? Seriously, it's about the feeling you get with a song. I think people should not hate on the way someone looks. If you do like so, it's no problem. You can check out all those Idols tv-shows. And in my opinion we should all cherish the moments at the beach where we can play any song we want being stoned and dancing our socks off.

  • @brandnewshoesfool my sentiments exactly

  • @brandnewshoesfool Yeah. Sorry about that. :/

  • @brandnewshoesfool it's not true! I love JD but i'm not a pretentious asshole. i think that people who are this pretensious fans became fans after watching the movie "control". When it was in the cinema almost everyone was talking about it. Before the film almost noone knew who Joy Division is and after - everyone was the bigest fan ever. so don't overdose, becose there are some people, who used to like JD before huge mass media promotion

  • @zuzofon Haha , its funny cause I loved Death Cab and then they were on some teenage show like the O.C. or something and suddenly they were "everyones favorite " band . I was glad for them , but it can make you pretentious if you think to yourself , I liked them first . The funny thing is you want to play your band's music for your friends ,but you don't want all those "other" people into them . The whole idea is silly , but we humans are kinda dumb . Peace.

  • @brandnewshoesfool

You ever tried to have a conversation with a Nine Inch Nails fan? They're worse, and this is coming from a guy who was one.

  • @brandnewshoesfool I don't think you Americans could understand the akin-ness Mancunians feel to Joy Division.

  • @jbri1 There is a difference though between pride and arrogance, people can love Joy Division all they want, but to dismiss other people based purely on the fact that they aren't JD is just ignorance.

  • @brandnewshoesfool indeed, fucking hipsters gotta ruin everything

  • @brandnewshoesfool

there's a horrid attempt at ownership over joy division. i agree, everyone who think's they're a "real joy division fan", is full of shit. that shit is LONG gone. long gone. but, everyone thinks they're so fucking real, so fucking old, so fucking indie, so fucking post-modern, so fucking cool. ANYTHING IS COOL.

  • @matthewceedy I can't be bothered with labels people put on music, one of the coolest kids I know who really knows his music taught me putting labels on music like that is ridiculous, and so is being a "real fan" if you like the music, if it speaks to you, enjoy it and don't let anyone tell you you're not listening to the good stuff from that band, it's what you like... Far too many pretentious "real fans" ruin it for everyone.

  • @matthewceedy youre a fucking idiot. good music and good bands are never gone.

  • @brandnewshoesfool yes yes we are

  • @brandnewshoesfool Exactly!!

  • What the fuck is the obssession with REAL musicians? What do you even mean by that? Classically trained musicians? Or just anyone who isn't Justin Bieber? Listen, if it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up then it's good music. Regardless of whether it's "real" or not.

  • Ian Curtis stirs in his grave, trying to claw his way out to stop this atrocity...

  • Sung as if post Emotion Lobotomy. Soul-less.

  • restraint

  • this blows why do people like this guy i don't understand. How is taking a good song and making a bland monotone version good

  • @dalebot what do you think "monotone" means?

  • @Zootallure monotone is when your voice doesn't use range and sticks to the same tone throughout. mono=one

  • @deuxxable

I'll give it you, this performance was pretty 'meh'.

But Jose is as far as REAL musicians can go. This guy plays outrageously well and it's just him and his guitar, No Synthesizers, nothing. Saying something as outrageous as Jose is killing real musicians is ludicrous and should, instead, be reserved for pseudo musicians like Rihanna or something.

  • @yelowello you should watch on here john martyn small hours or certain surprise

one man one guitar i think jose uses some of his style

    he is the master

John Martyn - 1978 Man Upstairs - Rockpalast.

  • @deuxxable Pea brain! Joy division made an untouchable cover, However Jose puts his own style to the record and is brilliant in his own way. As REAL musicians do! Not everyones bag, but to any sane person quite clearly gifted and very much REAL!

  • @surwadilykap "brilliant in his own way"?? Take a guitar and play it with the same boring rhythm, accompanying this with a plaintive tone of voice...and do the same thing dozens of times... Yeah you're right, this means being REAL MUSICIAN!

  • @deuxxable or you could be more open minded and consider that its not about how technically good you play the music, in this case its about how those tones of the guitar blend so nicely together and how suited his style of singing fits with the way he plays. I feel that he manages to really capture his own style when playing this, even if technically he hasnt made it more complex or innovative. i like it, and i think he is a good musician.

  • @surwadilykap I don't know if this men is really gifted, but if he is really talented, he should use his music skill in other ways! People like to listen to plaintive songs, and it's easy do this using the success of a popular song... If you think that these are real musician, you could go crazy for SAGI REI or EVA CASSIDY. Certainly people can like these songs, but this doesn't mean that these are music genius.

  • I don't like these type of music (singers that copy songs and make them a whimper), but I have to admit that compare Eva Cassidy to Jose Gonzales is a sacrilege. Eva forgive me for doing it!

  • @deuxxable Get over it. Jose is an incredible talent.

  • @deuxxable shut up idiot

  • Do people like this in some sort of ironic way, or inside joke I am not getting?

  • check out alice smith

  • its always gonna b hard coverin a song people have a lot invested in, but i like this

  • This version really sucks!!

  • Thanks a lot Jose Gonzalez, you have completely ruined Joy Division's original version for me. I can't even listen to it now. But only because your version is heaps better.

  • dreadful

  • the most impressive is that he doesnt need a band to be great, it is just him and a guitar

  • This song is a kick in the soul.

    Amazing

  • this man is brillant your music connect all your feels , incredible , in my country , chile not how much people listen to jose but this man is incredibel!

  • It's a beautiful tribute to Joy Division.

  • gotta love the Yo Sushi Ian Curtis tribute mouth morsel of fish wasabi and rice

  • this cover is brilliant. now i know why i stopped listening to indie, moving towards electronica..because all u guys are retards. look at these comments.. lol.

  • im sure everyone prefer's ian curtis tbh but this is good <3

  • @wilkojo no...

  • with all the terrible covers of this song people should be grateful that here is a good cover for once

  • All you people hating are stupid fucks! Dude knows what's up! Jerks!

  • @keepitcool12 Let's all swear at internet people...yeah!!!

  • @keepitcool12

might wanna try n keep it cool lol..

  • Joy Division!

  • Great version of a great song.Fact.

  • He's a great guitarist, but there's no emotion in his voice.

  • quite true, i think he surpresses the emotion a bit intentionally. this creates a ´bit of tension as we wait for a peak or somthing, but it never comes , maybe thats also why i can listen to this song a thousand times and it never gets boring.

same thing with crosses and most of his songs...

  • @tobymerwin There is, the same... as ian...

  • José is awesome and that's all there is to it!

  • This is perfect.Joy Division are the best band ever,And Jose is the best soloist ever. But thats just in my opinion ^^

  • He's really like nick drake in alot of ways

  • leave Joy Division alone

  • José Gonzalez' Cover is pretty good.... But Joy Division... Well, no equivalent for the sadness of their songs .

  • here is jose gonzalez covering joy division!

  • here is jose gonzalez covering joy division! can't stop watching and listening.... november can't get here soon enough.

  • how does he do that.. how does he make it sound like TWO guitars playing?!

  • @TheExplodingPanda i would say that is down to some extremely lush reverb

  • volume ++++++++++++++++++++++++!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • a gift, many thanks says the greedy but grateful child

  • well i was not impressed by the intro guitar... but then he started singing... its was like angels were speaking to me.

  • Very few musicians can get a song from another and make it their own, and Jose Gonzalez just did that with this simple and brilliant version for Love Will tear Us Apart. Bravo for him, and the haters can keep on hating, their loss.

  • One of the best cover of Ian Curtis song

  • what an amazin cover im in to it thumbs up jose

  • awesome

  • The song was written by Ian Curtis in 1979. After many years of depression, he killed himself in 1980. "Love will tear us apart" was inscribed on his memorial stone.

check wiki, sad story. it goes along with the lyrics

  • is good, heartbeats cover is better tbf

  • EVEN SOUNDS LIKE IAN CURTIS, GOOD COVER

  • This is absolute crap compared to the Joy division version, im disappointed seeing as how the "heartbeats" cover was pretty decent.

  • Comment removed

  • search bernard sumner acoustic

  • Is this cover on any record?

  • I just repeated this song about 20 times. So. Fucking. Good.

  • Jose Gonzalez is by far the best musician Sweden has to offer. His cover of "the Knifes" song "Heartbeats" has over 7 million views, which is pretty impressive for a Swedish artist (forget ABBA, that shit was before real music).

Even if he is one of the biggest Swedish artists internationally , the music who top our music-lists is she-male Lady GaGa and white-trash Eminem. Even in Sweden. José González is too deep, too powerful to hit in this country.

This is real music, folks, so enjoy.

  • @RedeboProductions So to prove that jose is the best sweden has to offer you name his the knife cover, while in fact the knife are swedish as well.. Jose gonzales is not even close to be the biggest swedish artist internationally. Thats a fact although I don't feel like namedropping..

  • @RedeboProductions

Eminem may be white trash, he even admits it, but listen to his lyrics before patronizing him.

  • @RedeboProductions

    Amen! Couldn't agree more.

  • @RedeboProductions "Forget ABBA, taht shit was before real music) HAHAHA, yyeeaaa right, like the 60s isnt real music, do you know how much good and unknown songs from the 60s almost none has heard of, searc ricky nelson - gloomy sunday, and tell me that it isnt real music, fuck you svenske faenskap

  • @RedeboProductions get real!

  • @RedeboProductions That's definitely up for debate, you have to consider The Tallest Man On Earth. He's also from Sweden.

  • @SeanOCasey10 isn't the tallest man from mongolia or something?

  • @cookiepwnsU Nope he's a Swede haha. Sweden is such a great country, they make Volvos, attractive girls, and fantastic music.

  • @SeanOCasey10

I wrote it 4 months ago.

I do agree that Matsson is the greatest songwriter in Sweden atm. So yeah, I just had a period with only Jose Gonzalez when writing that comment. TMOE is the most awesome thing I have ever listened to.

  • @RedeboProductions No worries, I'm the same way haha. And I agree completely, TMOE is ridiculously good.

  • @RedeboProductions The Tallest Man On Earth is also swedish and pretty great. You should listen his music.

  • @diogomgmartins lol, you should look further down at the comments. Gonzalez is great, but he can't match TMOE.

  • @RedeboProductions hey man, i was just suggesting. i'm glad you know him!

  • @diogomgmartins he is awesome. Jose is good, but damn, Matsson.

  • @RedeboProductions

Highly dubious comment; I like González, I got his albums, and I've seen him live; he is one of the sharpest in Sweden, but there are many that are on the same level, or above in some regards (the mentioned the Knife/Dreijer are better at song writing, and in my mind better artists in the sense of artistry, but José crafts the tune like few others).

  • @RedeboProductions

another one who is able to judge which music is real and which is not.

  • @Letes92 yeahyeah, read my comments down below. I had a little "jose gonzalez"-period when I wrote that comment. Everyone has different taste i music. Merry Christmas =)

  • @RedeboProductions a lot of the times its the too deep too real that miss the boat and the overly simply fluff pop that makes the money its sad but atleast with the internet we can follow along and when given a chance even jose will sell out a venue worthy of a decent pay day for him i hope
