Al Azhar is the second oldest university in the world. The oldest one is the world is The University of Al-Karaouine or Al-Qarawiyyin (Arabic: جامعة القرويين) .it is is a university located in Fes, Morocco which was founded in 859. check it out. Still it is really good to know that the oldest ones emanates from the muslim world.
@afrodyte83 They are allowed. The Mubarak Regime tried to stop them in their last year or so from wearing it in universities but you saw what happened to them
Its so sad that most of the girls aren't aspiring to become a Da 'eya. Why is it that most Egyptian girls i meet in my own university...in general...just want the college degree for the sake of...a college degree! and That most of them do not want jobs, but want to stay at home after getting married :S. Seems like a waste of time to me! Unless its religious studies or psychology or something that would benefit her as a mother and wife.
@HijabulousTV Because it's difficult to raise children well while working in a job, and in Egyptian society the woman is not expected to work, though they often do. To be expected to do something is not the same as to be able to do it, nor is that the same as to want to do it
This is beautiful. Am very happy to see how our sisters are studying the deen. I love you all my muslim sisters doing this. I live in the west where you will never see such a thing.
@YourNightmareAFG They do not call themselves this today so do not be arrogant enough to bring it up and if you are curious go and see how they consolidated between Shia/Sunni/Sufi/etc.
@BregyptianMuslim : I did not mean to be arrogant here, just answered a question of someone, who was asking about the builder of this university.... And I know very well how they consolidated between the "Omahs"
