He wrote a book about his family's life experiences, then later made the film. This is true to his understsnding from his family who had experienced the times of slavery. Alex Haley is the author of ROOTS and the movie Queen. Look him up.

I hate how movies twist real facts in history. The slave trade in the US was nothing like this. More people really need to study history more. This movie just brainwashes more people to historical myths and continues the racial tensions between whites and blacks in the US. They really should have had a disclaimer in the beginning stating “This movie is for entertainment only and does not reflect historical accuracy”.
