  • Why did Topping leave ACR? For what, to do instrumental samba?? What a waste! He's incredible here.

  • Fascinating clip, such a shame they "funked out" later on...

  • Light, party music! J/k-one of the most underrated and interesting bands ever.

  • does anybody know the lyrics, if so please get back to me?

  • ay yeah

  • This version sounds rather different than the version on Early. Is there any album it's collected on?

  • Excellent song... I first heard this song after purchasing an ACR reissue LP from souljazz... It came as a free 12" single... It's now my favorite Ratio track... So haunting it gives me chills... Simon Topping's vocals are a great fit to this song.

  • Well, I think the vocals fit the music perfectly; very eerie! But, don't worry, for as far as I know, Simon Topping left the band about twenty-five, twenty-six years ago ;)!

  • One of the best bands in the world !!!!!!!!!

  • Well, I can understand the comparison; both bands are from Manchester, have/had a singer with a baritone voice and both have some haunting songs (exceot for this, A Certain Ratio also had Flight and Blown Away with a similar atmosphereto it). I also know A Certain Ratio through my interest in Joy Division (24 Hour Party People, actually), but yes, Joy Division also comes out as a favorite. What I like about ACR is that they're a rather unknown band. But it does make their stuff harder to find!

  • oh and please dont try to suggest that your band are even in the same league as this...i dont even need to listen to them to say that they're not, they shouldnt be in the same sentance as joy division

  • OK, I didn´t mean to judge that hard, it was just that I listened to them after JD. And JD won. I wouldn´t compare my band to gods like JD. But we´re OK, I think.

  • why do you feel the need to compare them? theyre nothing alike they are both amazing in their own unique ways

  • I remember recording this. I think i was "sight and sound" but i could be wrong.

excellent stuff anyways, thanks 4 posting

  • blummin fantastic version of this song. Martins trumpets haunting, donalds drummings so good. Is a much better version than live in america and others i reckon, i like all this reverb, pretty short tho.

Man i want to see this in better quality.

  • Youtube's a beautiful thing.

  • Good stuff!

Simon looks so forlorn in some of these clips - I want to give him some cake and a nice big glass of milk.

  • If JoyDivision did funk this is probably how it sounded like..?May be not but I like ACR and JoyDivision both anyway. This must an essential old visual of ACR.There used to this funk outfit that I used to like alot called Chakk who were from Sheffield.Looked out for them on YT but no visual.

  • Yes, Hula (also from Sheffield) were another one of that genre.

  • Funny you've said that as I was listening to one of Hula's album couple of days ago.I haven't heard it for yonks but it sounded good though.

  • Yep. I have the "Cut From Inside" / "Murmur" double cassette, although I haven't heard it for a while either.

Another Sheffield funk-noise group who were very influential were the original incarnation of Clock DVA.

  • Hey you've got to stop mentioning those wonderful names because I won't stop.I'm a huge fan of Clock DVA!!.Shame AdiNewton hasn't releases anything since their last studio album Sign.(Well they are officialy split up I guess).I do like their earlier funk years but kind of prefer their later dark electronica materials.I gotta stop here.

    Take care NewWaver80014!.

  • I like this version better than the recorded one.

  • Absolute perfection! these guys were truly varied in their talents! check out 'Forced Laugh' and soon you'll realize early jazzy drum n bass roots. ACR were inovators on so many levels, after just discovering them myself here recently, one can really tell their broad-spectrum influence and total originality. incredible. all the Factory material seems to be incredibly original and way ahead of the times they were cut.

  • great, very cold ambient.

  • I know it's Factory stuff, but you cant help but see the resemblence here of the lead singer doing Ian Curtis.

  • i organised them in belgium same period great guys!

  • Thx so much for this!

  • Great!!!!

Thank You, I love A Certain Ratio
