  • "Definately sounds like Nickleback. That's why I LOVE IT!"...NO OFENSE BUT I REALLY THINK U NEED A NEW PAIR OF EARS. If u pay attention enough to this band in particular u´ll know that Opeth has a UNIQUE sound, there's no other that sound like them, copies there's a few but these people really make magic with their instruments, others just make music, that's the little detail that make's the difference.

  • Seriously, that's an insult...

  • Blackwater Park damn!

  • amazing people DON't like the ending, as for the genre dispute, get over it, labels are for school departments, pop stars and politicians - there are only two genres of music - Good & Bad - and this is very goooood !!!

  • how do they do that at the ending?

  • one guy plays and another un-tunes the guitar

  • Love this band! The endind is amazing!

  • ppl who likes death metal only ,may fav older opeth albums , but he who understands music ,wud jus fall in love with this album .

i mean its so fucking good , its like having sex and eatin and drinkin ur fav stuff , all the basic needs getting in thro your ears, it will SATISFY you

  • Blackwater Park is better.

    :D

  • great song...

  • and what would that genre is that

  • Its called Progressive death metal

  • I hate the slow pitch bending at the end it ruins it =[

  • what is the definition of death metal?

  • progressive death metal,progressive melodic death metal,death metal....NO...it's OPETH!

  • This (amazing) song reminds me of Pink Floyd music, sounds like something off "Dark Side Of the Moon" thats a great album that has influenced many bands and musicians.

    All Hail Opeth! ;D

  • It is progressive death metal...

  • opeth the gods of deth metal

  • this song is a work of art.theres not many bands out there that could write music like this.i love their diversity.they can do no wrong

  • yeah :P

  • mika is just a fucking gay

  • Oh, and the keyboard solo is amazing! Everything Opeth touches turns to gold. <3

  • If you like this song and Opeth in general, I recommend giving Porcupine Tree a try. I definitely prefer Opeth, and personally think they are beter, but Porcupine Tree is also a very good progressive band. You shouldn't be disappointed. (Note, they are softer than most Opeth)

  • Enlight me dude, how something can be good and boring at the same time? "Boring" used to describing that song is truly blasphemy.

  • it's just a matter of opinion, knock on me all you want. they are clearly some of the best musicians and song writers in todays music scene, but this song just doesn't do anything for me just because you can play a guitar really well doesn't make everything you touch gold.

  • But Opeth isn't only about, like you said "playing guitar (or every other instrument) really well" it's about totality of their music, which is undeniably an art. On todays scene there are many groups, which have something interesting to offer, but Opeth is imho one of the most creative and universal. Of course, like you also said, it's a matter of opinion of single person if he likes it or not. Peace.

  • Honestly? You can't mix up Opeth more...

  • In my opinion Opeth is really far from ordinary music. They're geniuses, holy shit. Everyone of their song is a piece of art, a singed and sounded poetry.

  • How the fuck did we even get on a Cock Rock vs. Real Music/Talent/Band conversation. Music is subjective but some facts are easy to see. Nickleback maybe a hard working band, but are no where close to the level of band like Opeth. Not to say NB isn't talented, though I use that term loosely. But they aren't near as diverse, nor do they share the same song progression/composition as Opeth.

  • Fuck all of you close-minded little shits. Wah Wah... He's not doing death vocals... Wah, it's too soft. Please stfu and clean the shit out of your ears. This song/album/band rocks.

  • personally i think still life devours everything opeth has ever done, although opeth dont have a single song i dont like,

  • Great song. From every point of view (at least when dealing with Opeth and their diversity). But I have to wonder what happened after the Deliveration/Damnation-era. Ghost reveries and Watershed are brilliant albums and I can't say anything bad about them, but... The replayvalue is missing.... for example I have listened Still life and Blackwater park nearly daily from the release, but the these recent ones sort of lack the fascination and astonishment of the previous works. Dunno what causes it

  • my favorite song off the new album

  • opeth e slo maxiimo !!!

  • : /

Opeth is a progressive metal band. Some could classify some of their music as death metal, but, hardly. This is simply them and their diversity, and thats what makes this album one of their best yet. I love all of their albums, but this one is much different, and unique from almost anything else. If they started sounding like Nickelback or something close that'd be selling out. This is just displaying what they can do. Although I do understand closed-mindedness to music, so, I'll stop.

  • as Nickelback is repetetive rock with simple lyrics and only a few chords per song, this is quite a few steps up.

It may appeal to more people, but the heart of it is still Opeth,

  • if you think it sounds like nickelback, then you have no taste in music. this is the real mellow shit right here.

  • Wrenchmen5,

dude opeth is a pretty diverse band

they have songs that are softer than this

    on their previous albums

  • This song is fucking wonderful. There are no other words to comment it.

  • love this song! so beautiful

  • Normally I hate keyboards because they make the music a little "fake" and electronic instead of the original sounds of the guitar/bass/drums but Opeth know how to use them correctly and it just makes their music even better.

  • I totally agree with you. But I think the guy was being sarcastic

  • Awesome song, but what is up with the ending?

  • opeth rules¡¡

  • If you listen to this when you're sad or lonely, it will immediatly give you a good reason to pick yourself back up.

    Opeth forever, bro

  • I beg to disagree the best part is from 0:01 to 7:42

  • So one second is bad? :)

  • Omg best band in the world, listen to that voice at the start. GODLIKE. Love you guys! \m/

  • This album is awesome for sitting outside on a cold, cloudy day and drinking a beer while listening to it...

  • You sir...No!

  • I totally agree... chilling with yourself relaxing with a cold brew and some opeth... good fuckin day to me...

  • That detuning pf the nylon string and the creepy laugh is so epic. gotta love opeth!

  • nobody ever put out this kind of music before opeth lol.

  • i dunno how people put this band into a genre...opeth is GENRE

  • This is the perfect song.

  • Killer band, great album. I'm an old school Opethian. My fav. album is MAYH

  • That's because there's nobody like them! they are unbeliveble uniqe!\m/,! swedish metal!!!;D

  • Opeth forever!

  • the acoustic guitar at the end sounds untuned. Probably on purpose. Nice effect

  • I think overall, this is their best album to date. This is a masterful album with amazing songwriting with less repetition, but more importantly, I feel Watershed is their most emotional and sincere album. Their old doom/death emphasis was very atmospheric, but I think Watershed really captures this in a more relatable and less fabricated way just for the sake of being heavy. I'd definitely say the first 5 tracks are among my fave songs now, along with Bleak, Ending Creds, Ghost of Perdition etc

  • Well song writing is like playing the guitar, the more you play it the better feel of the next sound. or in song writing message. It's a whole another level. So if you like this you'll love their next album.

I like this version much better than the new video.

  • I agree. The song as a whole is amazing, I don't see why bands decide to cut down so much just for videos. Look at Tool, they pull off epic long videos without compromising the music. I really wish Opeth, Porcupine Tree, and Agalloch would follow suit!

  • I don't think the bands want to cut down their songs for the video. The channels and their producers, along with the record company actually make the decision.

  • BWP is by far their best album. They're all different but BWP is the heaviest thing they've ever done along with Deliverance i think.

  • You're not alone

  • opeth got nominated fir the swedish grammys .. sho love and vote 4 them..

  • ahmen brother!!!

    OPETH RULE!!!!

  • This song is one of the many reasons why Opeth sits head and shoulders above 99% of the other metal bands out there.

  • I wonder what would the music industry be without Opeth.....so much diversity in one band totally blows your mind

  • This is really progressive: don't limit yourself. And they didn't. The organ solo here alone is enough to give this album a special place in my heart Per Wiberg is officially amazing!

I discovered Opeth with Watershed (and funny enough, though I hear a lot of prog, I didn't heard of Opeth before), and all I can say: this the best musical discovery I had in ten years. Watershed is near perfect for me. So much diversity it almost blew my mind.

  • Give Blackwater Park a listen. It's, in my opinion, their best. Watershed a close second.

  • Yeah, I already did but Watershed still rules IMO. It has the most highlights for me. As I said: It's almost the perfect album for me. It's been a very long time since I got so excited about a band (very close to my Dire Straits enthusiasm when my father bought »Alchemy«) and I am planning to get all of their albums. I have ordered »Lamentations« and «The Roundhouse Tapes« as DVDs, because I am always curious how a band can perform live.

  • Totally kick ass organ solo!!!

  • The outro guitar solos have a killer tone to them..Like from 4:10 on..Wish I could make my setup sound like that.

  • I wish that too, but that tone is pretty dependent on the PRS guitars that they use.... and those are expensive.

  • lol "Oh, Zeus" That entertained me.

  • Not including this song in their setlists for the promotional tour is pure blasphemy.

I´d kill to hear it live

  • I think you might be terribly disappointed if they did. I saw them life this year at W:O:A and since they have more lines to play than they have members some elements miss if they play life. Imo this band is rather a band living through their albums than through their shows, even though those are great as well.

  • the vocals remind me of John Wetton in his old King Crimson days.

  • yeah i also love the world of warcraft xD !

    (sorry for this bad joke)

  • haha omgsh. =]

  • Absolutely awesome! These guys know how to structure a song. Love Mikaels voice, he can sure mix it up, awesome feel.

  • This band s simply the best. They all have talent, and they can write some serious music together. There is nothing better than that.

  • they were better with martin lopez on drums though. well the drum parts were better anyway

  • What? I didn't say the two were alike at all. My comment was a response to somebody who said that Tool and Opeth are the "Best Musicians Period...[and are] Masters of guitar, masters of drums, bass, timing, measures and overall music theory."

  • 6:25 - 6:41 one of the best parts on the album

  • O M F G this song is....godlike...best band EVER

  • Best 2008 song.

  • for anyone who smoked weed, Opeth is the best stuff to listen to baked. Even their heavier stuff is good too. Especially Demon of the Fall

I listened to that right before i was going to bed and i swear to god, i was talking to my consience.

  • BWHAHAHAHAH funny you say that. once the only things i ever did was smoke pot and listen to that song on the mountain by my place

  • Pretty much my idea of a nice night in. :P

  • The arrangement makes it feel as though the room is crashing down around me, with such a sorrowful edge. Few can capture the power and vision like Opeth do. Mindblowing.

  • !!!cant wait clip!!!

  • the acoustic at the end sounds so demented, yet so cool

great song as always from opeth

  • Gonna see them live the on November 30th!!!!! I´ve just bought the ticket! I´ve waiting this for 4 long years!!!

  • This song is so ultimately beautyful...

Honestly I fell as if I'm melting away listing to this. This is even better than "Hours of Wealth" or "Isolation Years"....

Thanks for the upload, gonna purchase that album soon.

  • definately should, it's a great album all around.

  • ...better then isolation years? ... next thing you'll say, its better then credance.

  • yngwie - one of my biggest influenes

leave him be, he influenced most metal bands, including opeth akerfeldt said it him self

  • even from shit, flowers can grow

  • explains you and your future children

  • LOL

  • The solos in this song remind me a lot of Supertramp actually, I don't know them much though. Never thought I would hear something similar in metal!

    Excellent song by the way.

  • Correct the following lines:

    I sung a last goodbye

    A broken rhyme I'd underlined

A passive mind submit to fear

And the wait for redemption at hand

    Waiting to fail

    Failing again

You've taken more than we've received

  • Remarkable.

  • Mikael is a Genius..PERIOD.

  • don't get me wrong opeth is amazing but the solo to me sounds a lot like

Yngwie Malmsteen-Black Star anyone else agree?

  • i don't mean to sound like a 50 year old rocker, but ... black sabbath surely? i dunno ... i'm not that big on metal ... :/

  • the guitar solo is just beyond this world

  • Tool and Opeth - Best Musicians Period.

Masters of guitar, masters of drums, bass, timing, measures and overall music theory.

  • You should listen to Dream Theater if you think so...

  • why there are not enough live vids of opeth!!

it's so sad!! i love seeing them performing live

  • You should buy the live-dvd, its awesome.

  • the guitar solo is so awesome

  • favorite song on watershed. daam hard fuckin choice!

  • "Wings For Mary" isn't it made by Tool ?? :)

  • you've gotta love those guys... songs like this and "Isolation Years".. damn !! i love em !!

  • last 3 minutes - ear orgasm

  • ur average kid. detuning while playing is pro

  • what a tune..

  • Fucking amazing!

  • Opeth Defies description... amazing.

  • lol true that

no amount of words can describe how amazing opeth is \m/

  • pienso que es la mejor cancion que he escuchado de opeth

  • Oh my god... This song is so.. AMAZING.

    Favorited for sure.

  • If I had a choice of who I wanted to front my band between Maynard and Mikael, im sorry buddy, but it's not contest, Mikael Akerfeldt is by far one of the most talented musicians to have graced this earth, if Maynard had HALF the musical intelligence Mikael has, his head would explode!!!

OPETH voted Best Live Band of 2008

OPETH voted Best Album of 2008

  • I like your name, Soundgarden should reunite!

  • akerfeldt is a very inspiring frontman because he can do it all. he sings beautifully but he growls like the fucking devil. plus akerfeldt is a guitarist. keenan sings well but it just cant compare.

  • i just love his voice

  • Brings shivers

  • bands like katatonia .. tool .. pain of salvation ..porcupine tree.. are as good as opeth imo x)

  • Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) was in opeth. (3 albulms)I think he added aot to the Opeth sound. And I like him better when he was with opeth. However I feel that Opeth has grown a lot in thier last two albulms and he isn't much of a good fit for them anymore. Just opinion.

  • He produced Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Damnation. Although he did lend some guest instrumentation on tracks and mellotron on most of Damnation, he was never a member of the band

  • Most beautiful song to come out in along time.

  • Damn, that acoustic outro is really dissonant. Are they using semitone harmonies?!? =O

  • they are detuning the guitar whilst playing the same passage repeatedly. it's awesome :)

  • This song is awesome and for this song alone I would buy this album. It feels very »Transatlanic«.

Don't know why I didn't discovered Opeth earlier as a kid I was into Death Metal and now I enjoy »Prog Rock« (whatever that means) a lot. Opeth is the perfect combination of that and I'm looking forward to hear more of their music.

  • Check out Dream Theater too, if you enjoy prog-rock. :)

  • DT don't hold a candle to Opeth

  • Goose bumps..

    What an amazing track.

  • I was so impatient to ear the new album and when I bought it I came in my pants. This album is perfect, beautifful and everyone should have it in their collection. Watershred most be recognize as a masterpiece one day. For his complexity, beauty, intelligence and others and others.

  • It's so brutiful. (A mixture of brutal and beautiful! XD) I love every single second of the album too. Album of the year, if not of the 21st century.

  • and that solo at around 2:45 2 =)

  • I was thinking earlier: "why does nobody today make good music like the progressive masters of yesterday? Why don't we hear anybody do anything musically that is truly great?" and then I heard this song.

  • Fuck yeah!!!

  • Don't think so. Tool still have to compose a song able to move feelings(or at least MY feelings) like this one,or several others, from Opeth does. I mean...GOOD progressive music it's not only about technic skills or complex musical landscapes,as Tool seems to think, but mix these two with a HUGE amount of heartfelt playing. If not, we come to a lifeless music (although extremely well played). I'm very found on Tool, but they still have to compose their own "Burden".

  • That's fine, man. I'm glad you said, "MY feelings".

Honestly, I did think Progressive music was about mostly pushing limits musically and artistically, which I think Tool does better than anyone. I could easily be wrong.

I personally think Tool has loads of heartfelt songs. Off the top, Eulogy does what Burden does to me.

  • Tool is awesome, tool is my favorite band. but Opeth has more heartfelt songs, and Opeth is also a little more open-minded and versatile with the music.

  • no, tool definitely doesnt do it better than opeth, or a lot of other bands for that matter.

  • love this song! it's a masterpiece of melody and songwriting!

  • hmmm,,,

although i have not paid much attention 2 the words of this peice i must say that it is incredibly soothing 2 listen 2

i think i may have 2 listen 2 more of Opeth in the future

    :)

  • If you're looking for soothing music from Opeth..

I recommend the entire Damnation album.

  • opeth is the new age zeppelin

  • FUCK!!! Mr. Akerfeldt has now entered with this song in my list of best-ever singers (and it's a very short one)!!! I have followed his work along these years and album by album he has been enhacing himself. Now, is this a summit, or is he going to overcome human limits????

  • And i love Per Wibergs solo!

  • Watershed and Ghost Reveries are their best albums, easily. Blackwater Park after them.

  • One of the best songs in the art of music. BTW why is everybody dissapointed by Opeth's "new" style? Opeth has always been one of the most original bands in the music industry and that's why they "can't" continue with the same style as their first records, because they "have to" do something new. They have to do what they feel right, not what others ask of them.

  • in my opinion this is opeths second best album, a close second to still life
