This is my cousin Billy Stewart from Wash, DC. Billy was a Chess Recording artist in the 50's and 60's and was discovered by Bo Diddly, and his uncle Calvin (Hound Dog) Ruffin. Billy wrote and recording the 60's hits "Sitting In The Park" and this classic "I Do Love You". Billy died in 1970 when his vehicle plundged into the Neuce River in NC along with 3 of his band members. I am proud of my Family's Music History-Recording Artist Dane Riley
Lost a great talent 1/17/1970 in NC....his music touched so many people.RIP Mr. Stewart, the real sounds of a love a song,no computer garbage to digitaly screw
it up just real the way it was meant to be. Fall in love all over again with that someone special.
music has no color its just like love when it hits your heart there is nothing you can do but let in. If you are unable to that then I fill sorry for you.
I feel very fortunate to have seen Billy perform live, being a regular at the Apollo in NYC.Beside his singing ability,he worked the stage and had everyone on the egde of their seats. If you came on after Billy, you had better be bringing it cause he sure did.
Billy could sing thats for sure. I really miss this kind of talent. Maybe someday this music will regain traction in America and it will be fun to listen to the radio again.
Billy Stewart is my favorite. And I'm an old white dude. It reminds of when I was a foreman in a machine shop in North Hollywood. I hung out at "The Palacio" which was a dangerous place back then for cavachos. A little hot married Mexican gal broke my heart and I never got over it. I did get my revenge on every woman I ever dated and married thanks to my Martha.
What a fabulous recording; a different session that made it to vinyl. Example of how incredible he was as a vocal artist. He could have given us 100 different recordings and every time it would have been solid gold. The background vocalists harmonized differently, and this one is much more like a "rehearsal" one-take. But he is so magnificent a singer, it's like a "final" take!! He always sings at the top of his lungs like he's sending it off into the distance to disappear out into the world.
I lived in a part of Pamona were it was both black and brown and we stood together united over stupidity iI t seems prison plolitics has taken over and I pray for mi grandparents to stay strong I love you
Billy was a relative that I didn't get a chance to meet but I so enjoyed his music long before I was told who he was . But crazy thing is he was killed Jan 17, 1970 my birthday was a loss.
This was when musis had a presence and a 'spirit'....it was almost as if it was a living thing. Something that you could smell, taste, see, feel and hear, IT WAS JUST GOOD AND TIMELESS!!!
I don't see how anyone can not like this song. From the first two notes, it reminds me of those house parties that I used to go with Carlito and we would hear this song come on and jump to pick out the prettiest girl to dance nice and slow. Our hearts would beat as one and we would be in our own world...... Con carino...
I can only echo what was already said. When I get to Heaven, I'm going to kiss my parents and grandparents. Then I'm going to head for the piano bar, sit down and order a Jack Daniels on the rocks, light up a Marlboro, and sit back and listen to Billy sing!
you can only hear this kind of singing and playing now in local clubs if lucky, we are being fed music now by very inexperienced singers and players some who dont sing or play at all. young ladies and guys take a listen and a lesson.
wow! how this beautiful song elicits such moronic racist vitriol is a testament to people's inherent ugliness. we need to stop fighting among ourselves, especially when it comes to race. it's f***ed. billy stewart is rolling in his grave. shame on you
Billy Stewart was such a unique talent that I would have loved to have seen how he developed as black music transitioned from the 60's to the 70's. Of course that sentiment applies to so many other artists who died in their prime during that period. What I like about this music is that it captures a spirit of joy that truly should be the possession of all of us. Yet so many of us can feel this only during the brief 3 minutes of this song.

hey sharonanony again your'e right honey. Blacks are tha bomb in music but every instrument, microphone, radio, electricity conduits, television stations and even the buildings and salaries they made were created and owned by whites. That includes some of the artists as well unfortunately. Now you go take care of your half breed and of course out of wedlock baby and stop meddling with adults.
You are one to call people mutts, yet you Ricans are mixed up to Earth's end. Go fuck yourself, hijo de puta. Chinga tu madre! Your racism is showing. But hey, black people created civilization, we created the human race, so it doesn't matter!
Black people created civilization? Really? and what happened to it? Are you one of those morons that believes in the past greatness of blacks and correlates it with the Pyramids? Are you aware that slavery is still active and Arabs have blacks in chains and yet you are converting to Islam. Must be a genetic defect to be that stupid huh? Take care of that baby, soon it will be illegal to have abominations. Rican? no today I'm an Arian, tomorrow I may be something else, haha
Black people DID NOT create the Human race...God, TH ALMIGHTY did, not us!!! Man I mean, we contributed SO MUCH to the music that comes out now, rock and roll stemmed from Blues, which came about when the slaves working in South America invented the guitar to match their gorded instruments, the guitar THEN caught on in Europe, then came to the U.S., along with the banjo. Now, study your history and stop sounding ignorant!
Out of wedlock? I see so many Rican putas spreading their legs and busting out bastard babies from their men and negroes. LOL, look in the mirror, Fruitboy1955.
Fruitboy1955 at least we used that technology to create this beautiful music the world has embraced, stolen & envied. This music is loved and known the world over. All you and the others likes can do is spew your envy and even try to claim it as your own.
After I check in upstairs, I'll stand before him to account for my time on earth, get my small crown, see my parents/their parents and go over to meet Billy...gosh I miss his vocals.

Thanks for posting this extra-special version of Billy Stewart's classic. This rendition is not nearly as popular as the original(1965),
but it sounds more like the way he REALLY wanted to do the song, more free-style, you might say. He belongs up there with the best R & B artists of all-time, no doubt!!!!
Thanks again for posting the special version of a timeless classic!!
Thanks for posting this version, which is extended at the end and remastered. Stewart had a good voice and he could tinkle on the ivory just enough to create a sound that was uniquely his.
This is one of the first oldies I heard way back...summer of 1986, that got me hooked on real R&B and old school, then funk, then jazz. Billy is too underrated, and his name never comes up when talking about the gretest singers of all time. I think his name should be up there with the likes Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye,Donny Hathaway, and so many others that left this earth way too early...
God, this song takes me back. I love this song. I was looking for the perfect song for my daughter's wedding. She wanted a special song during the cake cutting. I think I've found it.
Had it all romance, sexy and class.

For the most part I agree.
There have been some white boys with some soul...
A few that immediately come to mind are Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield of The Righteous Bros, and Mick Hucknall of Simply Red
But still... some old school Motown, and even before that... there's just something about the soul that black people put into their music

Thanks for posting this version, which is extended at the end and remastered. Stewart had a good voice and he could tinkle on the ivory just enough to create a sound that was uniquely his.

FIRME ASS SONG
