  • Sounds good, nice fat heavy tone.

  • It's true that the amp isn't pure valve, but as is my limited understanding of amp design the solid state preamp and fx loop and emulated line out won't make much difference. All the distortion is coming from the tubes, the most important thing is that it has the responsveness of a tube amp. I doubt the difference is noticable to anyone.

  • Stick it through a 4x12 cab and get a Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster infront of it if its not loud enough. Its true bypass, has class A circuitry and it won't colour the tone at all, just give you a massive increase in Volume!!.

    'Tallica!!!.

  • Clip your strings, for the love of god.

  • A horrible fucking digital pod into pure valve amps like a blackstar omg you make me sic

  • Sorry bro. This head isn't pure valve. They use clipping circuits for the preamp. ISF control is digital too I believe. Solid state FX loop. Emulated line out. Not pure tube.

  • i belvive it is a pure valve- the blackstar page says- that its valve and the isf works with the bass and mids to change the sound

  • @jacktheguitarman Nope, not pure valve. It's not a bad thing. It's just not pure valve. I play a Mesa Boogie Express 5:25 and it's not pure valve. It has a valve preamp and a valve power section but uses a diode rectifier. Just like you can call 100 proof Vodka alcohol. It's not pure.

  • @ILikeJuice Oh damn. Didn't mean to call the ISF digital.

  • @ILikeJuice I'm pretty sure the preamp is a mixture of solid state clipping and pre amp tube. The power amp is tube, but I'm pretty sure the ISF control is an analog thing. Pretty much a Mid sweep control. Effects loops really don't need tubes though, they're usually just used to market amps more. I haven't really noticed a difference in the effects loop of a solid state amp and a tube buffered one.

  • By itself this thing is barley loud enough for band practice but. I put a pod in front of it and it makes it very loud. Plenty loud enough to keep up with drums. Its like going from a 5 watt to a 20 watt amp with that pod. Oh I use a 2x12 cab. I dont understand electronics and shit so I dont know why this happens but I do know it gets much much louder with the pod than the amp by itself.

  • Is it loud enough to be played with a drummer though, maybe through like a Marshall 2x12?

  • yes on the overdrive channel, no on the clean channel. but you can get a loud enough clean tone on the overdrive channel by turning up the volume and keeping the gain very low. i'm going to try a clean boost on the clean channel, I think it can be louder.

  • in a practice enviroment.. yes.. but not live unless the venue is pub-sized or smaller

  • you have money

  • Do you have to crank this thing to get a decent chug or can you play at low volume? Also, how does it wound through headphones?

  • can it be played with a drumer

  • nope, the drummer will die if you play this amp with him, drummers and this amp are not compatible

  • i meant is it loud enough ass hole haa

  • hehe

  • Tone's great but you need to tune.

  • hey what volume is your amp set at in this?

  • frediscool...an emulated output means there is a jack in the back that you can plug into your PA system so this 5 watt amp can feed a multi thousand watt PA system...thus ensuring your local stadium can hear you...you can also plug it into a digital recorder or ministudio...etc. It's sort of like a preamp output, but it uses both the pre and power amp signal...giving you a full tone. The problem is, how accurate does the emulation sound. Some are better than others.

  • thanks but could you gig with this with a 112 cab without micing it up or using a PA?

  • Please could someone explain to me what the emulated output is?

    Please reply!

  • Hey would this amp sound good with the orange 112?

  • Any pedals used???

  • Hey,....is that a 2x12 or a 4x12 Orange Cab? I bought a 1x12 from Orange but returned it because it was sounding super "boxy" Need to find a decent 2x12 Cab....

  • Try a Bogner Cube. Blows any 2x12 away and weighs a lot less.

  • Thnx dude,...but that cab is a tad too pricey for my tastes at £ 399!!!!

  • I know im a little late... but look at Avatar cabinets.. Excellent quality, Price, and service.. And no i dont work there...

  • good for the price but if you want really good quality for a bit more money and a sound you've never heard before, check out mills acoustics. I've gotten one and I've never gone to any other cab after it.

  • Sounds great. Did you use a boost here?
