  • shout this or that google app in phythan. - my grand man runs when she hears the word phy!, but can handle this and handle that so phy really thumbs down. php rocks

  • perfect !

  • Nice and easy....i like it

  • amazing!!

  • A good post by OP.enjoyed it.

    imsuyash.in

  • @Npanagakis yes, GAE has a java API as well as python.

  • all that to write "hello!!!"?!! O.o

  • I never understood programming, I prefer mathematics. ;-)

  • @luixfve Then stick to mathematics ;p

I always sucked at maths and excelled in programming.

  • i love ruby and python, thank you, GAE, it's great!

  • I love python and GAE.

  • anything for java?

  • aaaaaa no entendí nada!!!!!!!

  • Hello world

  • I know very little about programming but the thing is so insiring that one might start thinking about learning more )) thanks

  • Really enjoyed that ... very good

  • Yeah you type so fast dude..

If I could type like you, I'll change the Google..

  • @gangæyam TextMate

  • which is that editor ? He is using to code.

  • wait...what? when did he import datetime? am i missing something? is this real life? omg he types fast.

  • developing and deploying is the title... let's just pretend we all know what editor he speaks of...and what the hell is going on...

this video appears to be made for showing off more than for helping people.

  • @batoys4baboys Well this isn't designed for those who don't know at least a little bit about programming.

  • I like it

  • this guy can reprogram google in a day

  • im using windows xp.

    can i use terminal too.?

or is tere any like softwares?pls...

  • @TheSaidmir try searching java web

  • @TheSaidmir java.com ☺☻☺☻☺☻

  • It seems to me as the start of autopoietic technologY! Is it?

  • This Dude is completely ' Code-Washed ' !

  • I love Google :X

  • I Love Google

  • Does anyone know what software he's using to record the screencast? It looks really good

  • i love google

  • very impressive demo!

  • Wow, havent seen anyone one type so fast with such accuracy...

  • American programmers are the best.

  • Jajajaja

  • Video from Akrami

  • i'm really new to programming..

Someone told me this is not something you need to learn because this is only used on google app enginge? Cany anybody help me, if i should/should not learn this? Thanks

  • @HIPHOP0NL You only need to learn it if your planning on using the App Engine. If you're looking for python tutorials, go to this account home page and search python, I've learn't a lot from them.

  • @GrahamW0009 Thanks for answering my question, gonna do something with it :)

  • why is a google software engineer using Firefox? lol

  • @phisigmaphi10 because this is a 3 year old video..

  • @phisigmaphi10 because this is a 3 year old video..

  • Are there tutorials for setting up the APIs you want to use and the development web server ?

  • so there is no need to migrate by any means?

  • OMG no way I had to download it again? cause I had to log in....WTF

  • The old beautiful times... When googlers used to develop using Firefox !

  • @Rorschackh lol

  • shit shit

  • i wish i was cool enough to do this!

i wish i could learn all of this still!

  • This video was a lifesaver!

I was having soooo many issues understanding the "Open-social" tutorial which uses the GWT and Google App Engine, in my CS web engineering class....

    Thank you very much Brett!

  • ahem..Is this Google guy using a Mac?

  • @tty2020 ahem...Is this guy using Mozilla Firefox?

  • Python is one of the easiest programming languages to learn. If you already know how to make simple codes, go to Python.org, try the tutorial. In less than an hour you'll be creating some very interesting stuff you neve imagined could be so easy!

I don't mean other languages are less powerfull or less interesting, but Python is so practical that learning it as a complementary knowledge may be incredibly usefull.

    I recommend!

  • WOW!!!!! That's hard.

  • If you're a "programmer" that thinks Python is too difficult to read, you're in the wrong field. One of the major positives to Python is it's readability. Take a few minutes to read PEP8 or PEP20 and you'll see how dedicated the language proponents are to readability. My guess would be many are confused between the language, and the framework. "I could do that in PHP", do what? Anything with webapp? No. Big Table? No. If you've ever touched a PHP framework you know it looks very similar.

  • 私は、英語が解らないので意味は解らないが、文字が解りやすく書いてあっていいと思います。アメリカでは子供向けのアニメを観ていました。単語が解りやすかった。

    それと、お笑いものもいいと思います。

  • Hey which TextMate theme is he using ??

  • he's doing it so fast and clean..... dude its impressive

  • @h3um I'm sure he practiced it, had the final code in another window out of view, that way he can just spit it all out quicky. Like for example some things like his typing is instananeous in some spots, I understand he's a programmer so he's been programming and typing his whole life but his typing is rediculously fast.

  • @PriestOfTyr in this video the typing he is doing was done separetely and then this was fast forwarded, and then he has added voice to it.This is normally done for most of the tutorial videos, because if you keep talking while you are writing you may miss something.Further to answer what software he is using ,he is using text mate, which is for mac..which has code hinting functionality.

  • how to fuck can you write this fast!?!

  • @theodor70941 After lots of years (and a few brain damages) in front of the computer...

  • whatever ?

  • omg, you guys (those that think it was dificult) are totaly lame or insane (java more readable than python?! wtf!?)

Yeah, try doing the same with java+jsp as readable as this, and i'll be impresed.

And rodrigito1978 - yeah, maybe, but you cant put your php code in google cloud (i event dont try to argue about how sick and unfriendly php is).

Sorry if there are some language errors.

    And sorry for trolling :D

  • Excellent video. I'm going to embed it into my blog.

  • A google employee using Firefox! Burn him at the stake

  • @LeninShow y wats wrong with that?

  • @LeninShow Check the date, I don't believe Chrome was officially released at the time of this video's premier.

  • @dud380 (I) get ?

  • AMAZING;

  • You guys think this is complicated!? This is as easy as i get!

  • It's clear that Google hasn't accomplished anything except to create "competition in the marketplace". I think their idea is that they have beat Oracle, so that's something at least. Clearly inferior to existing mainstream solutions such as PHP, JSP and .NET.

  • This video clearly demonstrates just how obfuscated and complex programming in Python is. Python royally SUCKS. Thankfully AppEngine now supports Java, which is human readable. How about a video on that using the Eclipse plug-in?

  • OMG - that is so complicated. Your end result is entirely incomprehensible. Python royally sucks. Good job it was all totally canned and you never made a single mistake because python is IMPOSSIBLE TO DEBUG OR UNDERSTAND!

  • OMG - that is so complicated. Your end result is entirely incomprehensible. Python royally sucks.

  • Easier done with PHP

  • Easier doen with PHP

  • I thought it would be much simpler :(

  • Neeeeeeeeeeerd!!!!

google keep it simple next time

  • @originaltypenamehere I said Python since it's the language being used in this video and it's one of the 2 languages natively supported by App Engine. Stop nitpicking :)

  • Thank you, i made a proxy sever with your program but i wanted to find out how to do some different stuff thanks! and... GOOGLE CHROME ROCKS!

  • nice video. Never types a single error!

  • Comment removed

  • Very nice video, really helpful!

  • Nothing i cant do with PHP...

  • @Jfoo111 Google App Engine doesn't support PHP most likely due to the very low barrier to entry in using it and the huge prevalence of retards in the PHP community. No one said you couldn't do a simple app in PHP - there's no need to get defensive retard.

  • Please do speak as fast as you can forget about phonics and consonants with vowel sounds. Who cares when you mumble people think you're smart or a smartass. But hey you under 30 year olds dont give a Fkc about anyone over 40.

  • @shiznitbitslap I think they are making the assumption that their audience actually knows something about coding with Python. This video isn't a Python tutorial for beginners, it's an example of deploying apps on Google App Engine. He may be a little mono-tonal but if you can't follow what he's saying then it's your lack of understanding not his lack of vocal clarity.

  • WHAT A G.D. Robot of a Human. You people at Google are G.D. Freaks

  • You rock, Brett!

  • Aha ... He first entered "This is my shout" and queried it retrieved "Hi There"

  • I need a simple software program created to create a basic SEO tool. is there anyone who will do this for me?

I need to access Google to create a SERP type of program.

I am willing to pay you for your time.

If interested, Contact me at medullaoblongatta@yahoo.com for details.

  • @medulla62 Lol who creates job adds in Youtube comments? What are you paying - $10?

  • any particular recommendations for doing this in ubuntu? from the command line "dev_appserver...." yields command not found. and I get "file not found when I try to insert a path to where google app engine is located.

  • God! how can you type like that without even a single spelling mistake!!

  • @samin2012 he forgotten the"<" for the input tag arround 7:20

  • @NetherbloodProject nope, he's using some kinda IDE that has code autocompletion, see when he type input and press some other key, suddenly a whole bunch of other input attributes appear

  • @samin2012 A Google Engineer has that quality. If you ever apply to become one they scrutinize such skills part of assessing you.

  • @gunnarMyTube C'mon, the video was obviously edited. A guy that type without any mistake is not a good programmer, is just a good typist.

  • @andreresende It is highly unlikely that you, I, or anyone we know will ever be so leet as to be a software engineer for Google.

You may follow up with some bullshit anecdotes now.

He accidentally typed __main__+ at about 2:36.

  • @andreresende I would trade something dear any day to inherit the fluidness of Brett :)

  • @samin2012 coz he is from GOOGLE! :)

  • @samin2012 I can't do any of them :S

  • @samin2012 2:22 he made a mistake. 5:56 he corrected a mistake. lol

  • @samin2012

Thats the reason he works at google!

  • i oredy ,made mat like android 3x sem like technology marhs.

  • Am I the weird here? Man he was fast! Need to blow up my head!

  • EU CANTOR SUCESSO MIL

  • Google Rival IS Mac but google still use Mac Make Sense?

  • @narrendran5 not entirely, perhaps in cellphones, but Google doesn't manufacture computers, yet anyways. I was actually more surprised to see him not using Debian.

  • 正在学习中

  • Thanks for sharing your thoughts but I still can't see the cost justifiable. And apart from that, we're talking Python+a framework and not just python. So you should compare PHP+Cake or another MVC.

We don't have to join the Python band wagon just because Google says so... Rather we should be realistic about ALL issues - cross-platform compatibility, development cost, implementation cost, maintenance cost, scalability, migration, etc.

Anyway, Python is a great language!

  • Very cool. The speed of deployment is just crazy. It's still kind of ironic to me how in the example they use active-record for their models however, they end up using straight up SQL to sort the data set.

  • I can't see any good with using python, why doesn't google work with php or asp.net, i think python is just too complicated to build a simple app... how many python developers is out there for this huge app engine!

  • @ziiiwiii Python has more support than PHP and ASP .NET.

  • @Devourer09 like what??? i can't see anything php can't do

  • @ziiiwiii I don't see anyone developing GTK+ or Qt apps in PHP or ASP .NET.

  • @Devourer09 I didn't mean desktop applications, i got it, because you use linux so you like python as an open source.. right?!

  • @ziiiwiii PHP is also open source...

  • @Devourer09 i meant you like python for both desktop applications and web application ( i doubt you create web applications :P )

  • @ziiiwiii PHP is just as capable as Python or any other language. Good code is in the hands of the developer not the language (usually!)

  • This is cool demo man, i love this and the way you code..too good

  • I see the relationship between Python and the Google Apps Engine. But Why Python? How's it justified against other web languages like PHP or JSP? And looking at it from a business-person's point of view, how is the cost of implementation justifiable? I read somewhere that the platform costs $8 per 'user'. Can someone lead me to more info on this.

Apart from these worries, I think the combination is great but honestly, as a developer, I don't see it taking off too well, at least for a while.

  • @marhaonline Running Python now from MVC frameworks such as Django is becoming much more popular due to the fact most PHP apps developers end up inheriting are horrible legacy written apps that make you want to rebuke the day you decided to become a developer. I have been working with Django now for about a month and the speed and efficiency of it are just outstanding.

  • @marhaonline It's not any $ per user AFAIK. It's free up to a certain amount of network traffic (a lot) or data (a lot). By the time you're getting that much traffic you should have a very profitable business. Google is too smart than to screw over it's business customers like that!

  • Man, you're great. I love Google for everything ;**

  • Legen .. wait for it .. DARY.

  • There are a lot of very negative, closed minded people commenting here...

Appengine is cool - deal with it losers!

  • is there any way to download files from "Google App Engine " which we uploaded from other side/or other system ...

  • You type all that just to say Hello!! 2:45 ill stick with window

  • Erm.. Why are so many non-programmers watching this and complaining about it?!?

If your not a web developer, then don't watch videos about web development! Or just continue using Dreamweaver or Visual Studio and pretend you know what your doing.

I'm not that familiar with Python but this video is only doing simple stuff... nothing difficult. If you don't understand this, then your obviously not meant to be a programmer... Go play with some crayons ;)

  • @CrypticalK

how do you learn how to be a programmer? im interested in it but idk where to go???

  • @macingbitch Learn how to use google. Type in: Python tutorial.

  • @macingbitch try going to w3cschools online its free Thats How I learned alot and java programming tutorial from stanford but check out the W3c Schools it will only help you!

  • @macingbitch try going to w3cschools online its free Thats How I learned alot and java programming tutorial from stanford but check out the W3c Schools it will only help you!

  • @CrypticalK I'll have you know that VB is a perfectly good programming language!!!

  • @CrypticalK - I couldn't have say it better after looking trough the comments.. I think some of them think they are programmers because they can do 2,3 commands in this weird bloated templating engine which is called PHP ;) ;)

  • @CrypticalK

Hmmm... I take your point - however Visual Studio is hardly as simple as Dreamweaver.

  • at first it doesn't look maintainable. but it's nice. =)

  • @tivrfoa dunno about your dev enviornment, but the ability to run concurrent live and test versions and being able to seamlessly flip of the runtime version to the enduser and near infinite scalability sounds like a dream to me. check out the Admin console section on the app engine documentation site.

  • 嘿嘿!!!

  • When did mac have alt tab O.o

  • @crzyboi1129 for ages

  • Useless video, perhaps next time you can actually use technologies that are actually used such as Java or C#. Oh and explaining what APIs you are using and where the hell you got them from would also help....

  • complicated... can do same stuff in php in 2 minutes

  • Wow! I never knew Google was producing such cool software, I always imagined you guys writing stuff in Java and COBOL for companies.

This could get popular in a very short time.

  • Talks way too fast. Sorry. I can't even understand so between reading the words at the bottom and trying to watch what he is doing, it is totally pointless for me. I am new at this and need someone that will explain in detail. Google pointed me in the direction of this video. Thanks google???

  • finally got thru it! hooray. had more whitespace problems, had everything lined up exactly as shown? no, got errors, unexpected whitespace ^ line 26

took a while of doing it over but it finally works exactly like in the demo, had to watch this video repeatedly but thats ok

  • It works now, didnt have the spacing done right, so in Python it matters how the left margin is in relation to statements. Can continue on from the 2:50 point and try the next steps....

also dont know why nothing posted the last click, typed out the thing, clicked post and it was greyed out and sat there. had to type this again...

  • No matter what it will not find the WebApp module, the line

"from google.appengine.ext import webapp" it says there is no (module/file) so i cant import these to use them. Using Vista 64b with Python 2.5 How to fix this? The Apple Text utility there looks awesome

  • hehe.. just shouted after watching 9:07....

The google app engine doesn't sounds cool though.. you can say I'm out

  • Got to the 2:49 point? gets a bunch of errors, typed it in verbatim, cannot get the hello world!!! part to show up; first part yes but importing seems to have a problem

  • ok after trying it over and over, got it to go by FIRST starting the google appengine app then pointing it to the folder with the 2 files in there. COOL

  • Umm, yeah. So that's how you make an app using Google apps, eh? Was the purpose to dissuade folks from trying it? If so it worked for me.

  • Why Google can't make a VB (lets say MS Access or even a COBOL) converter to ANYTHING they like (lets say python) both from tables and source code so we are able to use the already written applications now? Why is this happens all the time. We drop human time for what? New language? Are we exhaust the old languages? What is happening with quantum computer when we build one? Are we ready abandon ALL existing source code and re-written in snakes?

  • So we have google hosting the db for you and some custom python that only works with the google api? I'll pass........

  • The comments on this video completely destroy any hope I might have had that someone on YouTube will someday say something positive about anything.

  • awesome

  • dude would you speed it up a little. gosh, you're going way too slow!!!! ;)

  • what the hell was that??

  • can tnos also work in a format on cellular phone?

  • It would be helpful to create an example of an app by which an application is actually necessary. This video is the equivalent of building a factory to pour a cup of coffee.
