People compare him to Wilde - but I don't think he was anywhere nearly as sharp as Wilde. He is like a sour old lady. He's morbidly gay. I don't think that his statements about gay men being women in men's bodies are correct. He's a unique homosexual - He's definitely not a typical homosexual.
Not being disrespectful but I want to say I truly am impressed at his amazingly successful comb over. I have never seen a comb over done so well in all my life!
His brilliant and relevance is quite remarkable. I've always felt that Quentin, in some way, manage to achieve an almost zen buddhist quality by following his own queer (pardon the pun) path.
Just finished reading The Naked Civil Servant and enjoyed every sentence of it! Never seen any footage of Mr Crisp before so I am having a great education scouring YouTube tonight.
We all could well extol the sweet virtues of the sharp Wit however kind Wisdom of the late Quentin Crisp!
I love his simple yet deep, whose meaning counts very hard - "I Am In The Profession Of Being!"
Ah... To be real and true to our own selves individually first! To be brave enough to articulate our own personal meaning with our Life, with our expression of ourselves in the world.
Quintin Crisp is so adroit and perceptive I'm surprised he didn't write a book of real social analysis. That perception of social change being intimately connected with economic change and the filtering of money to a younger market affecting morality is pretty profound. He could have been the Marshall Mcluhan of social mores, sexual and economic. But ultimately I suppose he was just himself...a fine example of 'do what thou wilt...except do no harm' and what higher praise could anyone want?
I'm so glad Quentin finally found the love and acceptance he deserved from his fellow humans when he emigrated to the United States. He was a precious treasure; a jewel both rare and beautiful. Thank You for this video!
i find it very calming to listen to him speak. "I don't behave the way I do in order to annoy society, or in order to placate it; I behave the way I do because this is the way I am."
