  • Its so easy!the pilot only press w and up arrow and q and e for turn,,,,,whats so hard?:D

  • For my birthday ^^

  • still a far cry from airwolf ;) but getting closer

  • well...it look like a Piasecki 16H-1 Pathfinder Experimental high-speed helicopter variation. always liked that chopper...

  • 0:17... And it barely even moves it's rotors...amazing.

  • @SQUIZZLER24 this is just the optic. it moves very fast.

  • @SeargantMoody I know... I was joking. ;)

  • How did I get here from Geomag constructions!?!?

  • Lockheed did it better 1963 , How we forget. Bell 533 faster. Lynx faster.

  • yea, but can it do a BARREL ROLL? :P

  • My opinion! Iran and Nord Korea are placed for injustice Big protest I recommend changing in FN four more Nations as a permanent members of securety council IRAN BRAZIL LYBIA SYRIEN mar kjartansson 24t blog Mingler.dk

  • A copy of Cierva CR Twin (1969)

  • wait, at full speed the rotors aren't spinning right?

means it's only partially a helicopter. but how does that create enough lift?

  • @lygophile nah

it's cause of the frames of the video footage.. they spin.

  • @leitegabriel

i know what that looks like and this doesn't look like that at all.

...maybe it's just cause it's a high frame-rate camera or something.

  • @lygophile It happens when the camera framerate roughly sync with the rotors.

  • @leitegabriel. yeah, you're right. you do see that effect in some shots.

  • @lygophile They are.

  • @lygophile it is spinning. its just an optical illusion. same as if you look on whells of cars on the freeway. it also looks as if there spinning slow of in the wrong direction

  • @admiralPs. i know, but you can still see the effect by a blurring effect on the rotors. however with modern high speed cameras...

  • Where can I buy one?

  • and thats how babies are made

  • HAVOC HELI!!!!

  • I want them to create a zombie virus that will turn everyone except 100 people in the world into zombies and the 100 people should have a base, headmaster, aircrafts, vehicles and loads of weapons and ammo. Enough to kill everyone in the world and then they go out hunting every zombie and they wear a crysis suit to make them invisible, fast and super strong and they could only get killed and not infected.... that's what I want. And I also want to be one of those 100 people. I'm so sick, ain't I?

  • @Bjarki2330

    LOL

  • @Bjarki2330 Mental diarrhea ,I presume...

  • @Bjarki2330 You should watch "The quiet earth"

  • @Bjarki2330 And after eliminating all the zombies, i guess those 100 ones will afford the hard task of filling the heart with people again... Your comment is perhaps out off topic, and sick yes, but must recognise i'd also like to be 1 of those 100 bastards :)

  • @Bjarki2330 PLEASE LET ME IN ON THAT.

  • @Bjarki2330 If that happens, you will have no more internet or electricity for that matter.

No more current water, no more freezer, no more fresh food.

You will live in the stone age after 1 month and after 1 year, you will get bored and miss listening to some type of music, watching a movie or tv show, or playing something on your console or pc.

The only sickness you have is ignorance towards what makes you happy.

You are so quick to wish total death but you forget you will die dirty and bored!

  • @MrDevlance You're stupid.

  • @Bjarki2330 can i be one of them with you im already 6th pres. in mw3

  • @Bjarki2330 nope just a teen

  • @Bjarki2330 yes

  • Huh, that thing does go pretty fast.

  • cool

  • Comment removed

  • That was stupid....

  • this is dumb why dont they just put helecobler blades on a plane. HELLO?

  • @Ratama

    CV-22 Osprey.

    Stay quiet and google it.

  • If the helicopter uses a turbine engine, could they somehow redesign the engine so that the helicopter uses the turbine's exhaust as its forward propellant?

  • The Black Hawk high speed version is much cooler... I hope they keep developing this technology though, Helicopters are the future.

  • Sikorsky X2

  • Hot damn, I think I just cracked a wee stiffy

  • ..TO THE PETER-COPTER!

  • Now that's a fast helicopter!

  • "faster helicopter could help air lift injured people from isolated locations"

yeah, they could... but more likely

"the military will use faster helicopters to injure people in isolated locations"

  • @jasonsadventure and your point is?...

  • @guitarzan1283 ... clearly made.

  • @jasonsadventure not really what difference does it make if they use them for military that means we win faster with less troops in harms way fine by me

  • @guitarzan1283 or it means we start wars that should never begin. either way, there is an clear, obvious, irrefutable difference between a military use and a humanitarian one.

  • @guitarzan1283 that's an easy opinion to have if you've never LIVED in a warzone (and I don't mean spending time there as a soldier). When its your street getting pounded it makes a difference. Cool helicopter though.

  • gorgeous

  • this footage is allready 2yrs old. shame on you new scientist.

  • that thing hauls ass

  • pure awesomeness.

  • It is possible to replace the tail rotor with turbo-jet engine, (like a harrier!), but they won't because a helicopter rotor has speed limit. The only difference between helicopter and harrier is the wing. -The wing of a harrier allow greater speed than a rotor can allow.

  • @xponen I think tiltrotors like the V22 and A609 are closer to the Harrier, as they're vectoring thrust in a similar manner (albeit with rotors rather than jet exhaust).

The X2 doesn't do any thrust vectoring so it's actually closer to something like the Fairey Rotodyne. And you can't replace the engine with a turbojet because it is also driving the rotor, hence the turboshaft fitted. You would likely have to fit an additional engine for jet propulsion, which would increase the empty weight.

  • Funny thing this is.

The first predecessors of the helicopters were s.c. Autogir's.

They had the same displacement of the rotors.

"All new is a long forgotten old". Indeed.

  • can't get over how slick this fucker looks!

  • Look like 1 Million of crash

  • will it blend that is the question.

  • that's a fucking sexy chopper

  • how fast is it

  • why would you want a helecopter that can go plain speed when you could just get a stupid plain dummy?

  • @Ratama

Maybe because planes can't do what helicopters can. Dur.

  • @dinmagic what about the herrier or jumpjets

  • @Ratama

A helicopter's ability to takeoff and land vertically, and to hover for extended periods of time, as well as the aircraft's handling properties under low airspeed conditions differs than that of a harrier jump jet. Besides, do you really believe that they would quit and just replace them all with harriers? I wouldn't want a harrier installing something on my rooftop.

  • @Ratama Why can't you spell "plane" right, dummy? Oh, for the the same reason you couldn't determine for yourself that rotor-wing aircraft have greater manueverability than fixed-wing aircraft.

  • for the same reason they dont but rockets on a blimp there are thinges better.

  • @Ratama so that you can land and start vertical. idiot.

  • the tech behind it is if you understand physics then you know a heli with one set of blades traveling in one direction loses lift on the retreating side, that is the side that the blades pass from the front to rear which at the same rotation speed as the helis moving speed basically creates no lift at all, and any faster then that actually decreases the lift on that side, what you see here is a heli with two rotors spinning opposite creating an even lift no matter what speed it travels at

  • Do a barrel roll.

  • awsome

  • Ever heard of the commanche helicopter of the 1960's. It was a pusher chopper to. Definitely not new technology :) Ido like the counter rotating rotors.

  • Nice!

    Minigun applicable!

  • 500 Km/Ph holy shit thats a fast dakadak.

  • The future of porn looks bright!.....wait whut?

  • that is so weird how the top blades look as if they are not really moving

  • "Faster helicopters could help lift injured people from isolated locations"

Yeah - and the one shown in the vid with rocket pods could help injure people faster in isolated locations.

  • @airihi Yea my thoughts exactly

  • @airihi hahaha

  • @airihi

If there isnt anything to gain monetarily it wont be done. Its sad that we live in a monetary system. (War is big buisness)

  • @airihi too right... who r these people kidding ?

  • @airihi Well you can help people by killing them so they dont suffer :D

  • @airihi Well, the notion that new helicopters will only be used to save lives is a dream at best. Besides, there are helicopters like the Apache specifically built for killing. This is probably a demo to attract funding from DARPA or something.

  • @airihi

Well, but many technologies initially created for warfare continue to make us benefit from them, long after the conflict has ended.

Or do you really think there would have been computers as advanced as today, let alone the internet without the Cold War?

  • @AustrianChaos internet was invented is switzerland. im soo sorry and too bad switzerland is nutral

  • @AustrianChaos if we would pump that money into civil research there would be :P

  • @airihi Nice thought, I was thinking about the same thing!

  • @airihi you think if the military had no interest in the design for evil purposes that it would even get off the ground? no pun intended...ok there was lol

if the military loves it, it launches. is a sad truth :(

  • sickkkkk

  • Apparently all the new human technology is not supposed to help people get over cancer, illness, world-hunger, poverty etc., it's just about finding survivors.

  • @M30W3R I suggest you start solving those problems then.

  • @M30W3R Because the guys working on new helicopter designs are clearly the ones who should be conducting genetics research to cure cancer or grow more potent crops.

When your mechanic fixes your car and gets you better gas mileage, do you ask him why he didn't bother fixing the local homelessness problem too?

    Jeez.

    On topic: Awesome helicopter.

  • @Cheebzsta wait, no no no, I am not saying that this is not an improvement or that helicopter engineers are worthless or anything, all I am saying is that I noticed how NSV always seems to bring about more ways of finding survivors and fewer videos about health related stuff, that's why

  • @M30W3R You do know science is diverse, right? You can't expect them to show only one type of thing more often. They have a few health videos if that's what you're looking for, but NewScientist don't only do about health. Plus it's more about documenting innovative progression.

  • @YuneShik yeah, I guess you're right

    I apologize :(

  • @M30W3R No it's ok, it's just youtube so you don't have to worry about apologizing loll.

  • my rc helicopter works the same way.

  • @themilkmister

LOL! i was thinkin the same thing... and now cars and maybe even bikes are virtually fucked if they get into a high speed chase wit the cops

  • holy shit that's fast...

  • GET TO THE CHOPPA NOOOOW!

  • I thought the issue was preventing the propellers from reaching mach 1. So perhaps two blades cuts the speed of each blade in half, but that still is a long way from the helicopter being "fast"

  • I like how the camera's FPS cant keep up to the Rotors!!

  • maybe those aren't rocket pods on this modern medical wonder, maybe they're launch tubes for transferring injured hamsters and gerbils to the ground faster so that the pilots don't have to land for each drop-off in a major rodent rescue operation. duh...

  • @themilkmister well most likely in this day an age, but this could also be come a new form of a mass transit option.

  • "airlift injured people from isolated locations" ya, so innocuous !!

how about, bomb people in other countries ? or even our own ? thats more realistic.

  • @yourtube20061 I know...right!!

  • did she said TWICE AS FAST?? that is INSANEEE

  • More things to go wrong..

  • choppers are unstable and dangerous

  • how the hell is this new.. russians have this already

  • IT'S BLACKOUT!

  • this is baddass

  • Nice but I still want a jet pack !!

  • ugh. could at least tell us the speed of the thing in the video.

  • wow i didnt think my comment would get so highly rated, i didnt even phraze it well hahaha

  • @themilkmister It's probably the first time that I really liked a sentence with "lol" in it. You said the truth, but it's sad as well.

  • Russian mi-8 was made with a similar technology about 50 years ago!

  • i like how the blades look like they're not spinning.

  • this how the first helicoptor type machines looked except with the propellor on the from instead of the back. why are we going back to this now? they couldnt figure out it would make it fast sooner?

  • Why are there air-to-ground missiles mounted on the side of the helicopter in its first shot?

  • @1RadicalOne

    in case there is traffic

  • Riiiight...

  • 2 people are scared of speeding! lol

  • Fuck!! Again?!! Invent a new pen and according New scientist it'll be to write to people in disaster situations. Can we invent some things for people who don't spend all their time in collapsing buildings and hurricanes? Stronger toilet paper? People trapped in rubble can still wipe their arse...

  • @coolman9999uk unsubscribe if you don't like them, if they built a new plane, it would still be a new plane regardless if its been done. if they built a new car, are they not allowed to call it new? so what if its still a car..

  • Fucking cool man

  • 0:42 They put something like this in every single video. Is it newscientist policy to find medical uses for ALL of the inventions they present?

  • Wow, this is cool!

  • looks like a good combat platform..

PS Dear Santa Ive been very good this year,,

  • I ordered mine. It arrives in January.

You would be truly astounded at what has been adapted for peaceful use after it has first been developed by the "Military Industrial Complex"

These would be perfect for ocean rescue or hospitals.

I guess the rocket pods are for making sure the rescue goes in an "orderly" fashion.

  • @BrightlyEvolving Yea... you better not be in it's way or you'll be in need of a rescue... I've just thought of a cool idea for a TV series.

  • now all they need is 2 jets instead of that prop.

    Airwolf is born again.

  • The first photo of it even has rocket-pods, suurree its for rescue

  • @darthsmidge They're.... fireworks. For.... making the "rescue subjects"... happy?

  • @darthsmidge My exact first thought! Moar ways to kill eachother yipeee!

  • @darthsmidge Those aren't rocket pods, they're friendship bays! =->

  • @AsciiKid *LOL* - Newspeak Award!

  • @darthsmidge LOL!!!!!!

  • faster? what?

  • I'm happy to see people can still call out governement propaganda lies like this one. This is a tool made for war its simply insulting peoples intelligence to even come up with that lame resue excuse, total fail.

  • Faster helicopters could help you get there faster... what's with the stupid practical application examples in these videos?

  • @Yonn13

I think they just do that as a rule to help relate all the scientific videos to people's everyday experiences, showing how science is being used to improve their lives. In this case it wasn't necessary but just was done out of force of habit.

  • @Yonn13 Because some idiots always complain about the uses for such innovations, saying it's worthless.

  • the effect where the blades seem to stand still is because the camera shutter is synced exactly with the blades.

    this is real

    and straight

  • anyone else notice the fact that it was still hovering in the air w/out the top propellors spinning?

  • Faster helicopters could do a lot of things...

  • FAKE

  • @FakePriest Are you kidding?

  • @themilkmister Totally. I mean the first one even already has missiles on it LOL!

  • If they can get this suited up for Rapid Response, it's gonna do wonders for the Coast Guard.

  • @themilkmister Yeah, we are spending half a trillion each year to fun faster helicopters to rescue people from natural disaster areas. It's the same as designing faster missiles, so we can deliver Christmas cards across the Atlantic faster

  • @themilkmister and that's a bad thing?

  • looks like a flying boat but cool

  • @themilkmister Yep, isn't it disturbing how nearly all inventions that could be used to better humanity somehow make it into the hands of the military industrial complex. Then demand goes up as does price and the new lifesaving tool has been turned into an unattainable product used for the destruction of men.

  • I'd like to send this to the Prussian consulate in Siam by aero-mail. Am I too late for the 4:30 autogyro?

  • Super

  • At 0:05 you can clearly see it has dummies for rockets. I guess those rockets are used in a new technique of "lifting people from isolated locations?" mhm

  • Lol, I know this is possible on any helicopter with the back propeller, but if one of the top rudders go bad and shut off, the thing will spin like crazy. lol

  • now they just need to put a jet engine on the back,

  • air lift people to hereafter not hospital , at speed of 500 kilometers per hour

the project name was "where sun don't shine" then do pressure form human right group the project name changed to " highway to heaven"

  • Yea thats what I am talking about. Sweet.

So when does the RC version come out?

  • 500 kilometers per hour that very impressive improvement for helicopter.

  • Ya...The first copter they show has missiles....

  • so now theres flying boats
