Cats are jerks, but the good kind. As selfish and abusive as they can be, I think cats form as much of a bond with their owners as dogs do; they're just not such pushovers about it. :P

@zorak950 Dogs please their owners because they need their human masters to survive. A Poodle would probably not survive in the wild, however a cat will most likely thrive. So you can say that a cats affection is purely genuine, yet a dogs affection is just their learned behavioral instincts of survival. Think this one through.

@NASIMNASIM A lot of housecats never have to hunt (or find shelter or dodge traffic etc.) in their lives, even fewer on a level that would be self-sustaining. I'm far from confident most of them would make it if they were suddenly cut loose. I would agree that, at birth, a random cat would be better off "wild" than a random dog, but once they've spent their first couple years living off human largess, I don't think either one would have good prospects.

@zorak950 You couldn't be more wrong.... Cats are a thousand times more equipped to survive in the wild than dogs. The reason being...dogs are not found in nature, with the exception of Wolves. When was the last time you saw Yorkies, Poodles, and Golden Retrievers on the discovery channel? If you don't believe me, ask any vet..they will tell you the same thing.

In any case, when was the last time you saw a /housecat/ on a nature show? If you were to actually check, you would find there are more wild species of the genus Canis (dogs) than there are of Felis (cats).

Oz the Cat did not act on instinct. The only instinct that cats have, which humans also have is to run away when seeing danger and to be cautious. The cat acted on impulse, which is how humans behave and what gives us our free will. The cat choose to save the man, because the confidence and comfort it had in doing so was greater than the confidence and comfort in not doing so, much the same any sane human.
