I know the parachute should have deployed, but did it not occur to the organizers, that sometimes what goes up fuckin fast, also comes down fuckin fast. lmfao.
regardless of permits or 'class 2' or 'class 3', this was still a really dumb move... 9 people just died in the reno aircrash, by a veteran ww2 pilot crashing his plane into the crowd. 9 people who's family's will suffer greatly, so yea, all your permits and classifications mean nothing when people's lives are in danger. This is not a 'sport' this is a 'hobby' and no matter how good you think you are with dangerous technology there will always be potential for a person to screw up
It's like not creating any sort of pitch change to make sure a highspeed object launched into the air will always fall away from the spectators is stupid or something.
Wow, that was close. Oh well, law of murphy. Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Just glad no one got hurt. Look at it this way, it's rare for a rocket's chutes to not deploy. It goes with the territory.
Looks like the Lucerne Test Range in California. 28-bucks for the motor? Must've been awhile ago because judging from the size and design (air drag) of that bird, it would've taken at LEAST a J-motor to boost it to that height and those cost alot more than 30-bucks! I'm guessing that was a K550. Man, I miss High Power! Danged economy!
the LCO is always right when i launched my rocket they were in tower with ironically reinforced steel roofs, its funny how they're trying to protect the people but is was all good no accidents
wowowoow, too bad the chute didn't deploy. It happened to me when i launched my first rocket. The rocket accelerated so fast that the chut inside actually get suck deeper down toward the bottom of tube.
This video is freaking hilarious! lol . "uh oh.. that doesn't look good" "Heads up EVERYYBODDYY!!!!" Lma0 hahAHAHHaa. Then.. "Stay away from the rocket everybody" and herds or people are running towards it. Lmfa00 hHaAhahahAh! Funny stuff.
injuries in this hobby are from negligence or stupidity. narrow-fearminded comments like some of those are disrespectful when an open mind is what breeds awareness and prevents stupid shit from happening... and besides, terrorists already have access to Stinger Missile Systems that are designed just for killing aircraft!!!!! there's something to think about dumbass.
Amazing video. Glad no-one was hurt. People, just because something bad happened, and it happened to be caught on video, does NOT mean that it represents the entire hobby.
One plane crashes, and then no-one wants to fly...

@airgunsniper +the real experimental ameteur rocket launches don't allow non experimental or non high powered flights. the national experimental launch requires a $40 registration to watch, and children under 18 are not allowed...we don't take our hobby lightly
@airgunsniper that rocket is level 3...! my rockets went from 3/12 oz to now 15.24 oz or 432 grams, heavey huh? do you know if it will still fly on a 24-40 airotech composit D-Eand F motor at that weight ? i know the D motor puts out 9 1/2 pounds of thrust for two seconds, and the E is like 4 1/2 pounds of thrust for 3 seconds..! most people here use the F and G motors, ive never used a F motor yet...! but it will fit inside my case the 24X40 mm case, thank you for your time,,,
I wonder what was done immediately following the cratering event? Were people moved back? Were other failure modes analyzed? I was there thats a friends rocket, the nose cone was about 4 feet down.... the dirt collpsed in on it thats why it looks like its not very deep. and the rocket was close to 12 feet tall. funny how perspective changes things..
now your just stupid, a 747 flys at about 30,000 feet, that made it to about 6000 feet, and if you notice the simple electronics to get a chute out didnt work (primary and back up) imagine how difficult it would be to actually steer one int an airplane flying at about 700 miles per hour.... you my fiend are just plain stupid... the only reason we let people like you live is because it illeagal to kill you..
> imagine how difficult it would be to actually steer one int an airplane flying at about 700 miles per hour.... you my fiend are just plain stupid... the only reason we let people like you live is because it illeagal to kill you..
Yes, and imagine how hard it would be to hit a 747, cruising speed 556 mph.
You miss the point. A 747 is a big lumbering target on its final approach to an airport. A fast rocket like this with an high-explosive payload could really fuck it up. I didn't think I needed to explain the obvious, but I see now that knuckle-draggers like yourself are dumber than shit.
Try to get a hold of the motors needed to power these things. Try to build one. Try to find a high explosive payload. Try to shoot down a 747. Then tell me that it is easy to shoot down a plane. Amateur rocketry is an extremely safe hobby. No one has been killed or seriously injured when conducting launches per NAR or Tripoli regulations.
The chances of launching an amateur rocket and hitting an airliner in flight, either at altitude or on final approach are slim to none. These rockets have no guidance system. A 747 on final is still traveling at a pretty good rate of speed. Someone one did experiments to try and hit an aircraft on approach, they were never able to hit it.
