  • @YouFreakinTroll even in the marine corps the marching band is for faggits

  • @russ805 even retards like you can't spell faggots. its with an O, not an I, ok kid?

  • @YouFreakinTroll it doesnt change anything about the band

  • @luxiguy how dare you insult such a prestigious and honored piece of music? Thats just Un-American.

  • Semper Fi !!!!!!!!!

  • At the end of the Cricible when we were presented our EGA, we sang!

We had made it! I will never forget the pride I felt when I sand "From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli"

  • do they have to serve in iraq or afghanistan

  • @myers1717 most Marines go to combat, why ask that quiston when serving in the military means "fighting" for your country. it should be an honer to serve with your brothers in arms, why ask. The Marines isnt a picnic"

  • damn they got high ranks

  • Only the best military marching band can play at the Rose Parade. Semper-Fi

  • God Bless The united States Marines! And God Help The Commie U.S. Gov!

  • it seems that the marines receive more prestige than the other services,

  • OUTSTANDING

  • The Composite West Coast USMC Band is one of the most impressive sights and sounds coming down a street that you'll ever see and hear. When you put these USMC bands together they're even better than the "President's Own!" (No disrespect intended to the men and women at MCB, Washington.) Give 'em hell GySSgt Fields!!!! You're damned right! //A retired Soldier and musicain//

  • Best band in world.

  • Every member of this band has gone through Marine recruit training, including the Crucible. Then, they spend about half a year at the Armed Forces School of Music in VA, and get a crash course on the art of performing military music.

Before all of this they are subjected to a very selective audition process. They only choose the best!

  • @OboeCanAm ..I read in an ad to expect the audition to be the same as if you were auditioning for a major symphony orchestra. they sound great. yes and the balance is great, NOT ALL brass. i always had to play piccolo fortissimo to get above the brass. i guess i did because the director on occasion would look at me and comment "too much piccolo" i was determined on the americans we march i was going to take the roof off with that last run up to the high B flat..i was a bit of a show off..LOL...

  • those piccolo's are great.. you can hear their runs. just makes a march along with the clarinets doing their high register run and trills. wish i had my piccolo again and get out there with them..days gone by only memories now.

  • @larryglass61

What I find amazing is that you can here all of the runs in the woodwinds so clearly. The balance between sections is perfect, so it's not just a mass of loud brass playing.

  • It is so great to see people in the crowd stand up showing respect as this band passes them by.

  • you said it copper!

  • im suprised to hear their snares sound the way they do ive college snarelines sound much better than this with them being military i was hoping a little more than this

  • Just remember that they are still Marines, and many have been overseas and seen combat. Besides working on music, they also have to meet the Marine Corps' height and weight standards, physical fitness standards, and qualify annually with the M16 and pistol.

  • ive met marine corp musicians who have done nothing but play their instrument for 20 years or more in the military and thats all they have done

  • @347826able : Obviously you haven't met too many Marine Corps field musicians. Nor have you ever served as a Marine musician. They do a hell of a lot more than play their instruments. I'm talking from serving 20 yrs as a Marine bandsman. You've insulted EVERY Marine musician that's seen combat or trained for combat you dirtbag!

  • @kbsweet68 : Well done ¡¡¡ Asì se responde a un ignorante. Sorry, no hablo ingles.

  • i figured they wouldve marched melaphone instead of french horn but it dont really matter in a parade i guess. melaphone is just easier to march with

  • i want to say this band is only from the west coast...if it is, then it would make sense. Out on this side parades, or band reviews are competitive, like a field show. A lot of bands march french horns, as well as concert euphoniums and instruments like that, some going as far as concert tubas (rarely). It's just a matter of sounds quality i guess

  • OORAH!!!

  • Interesting comment on the WM general sitting. Would like to see it. Every Marine knows the drill, the Hymn, you are on deck at attention just like getting "Caught In The Rain" if you know what I mean. Nevertheless, most parade observers stand up which I think is because the old Corps (former) and current Marines stand at attention and they get caught up in it. Still brings a sense of pride to me when hearing it.

  • I would like to see a WM General sitting too. Every Marine knows, you hear THE MARINES HYMM, you pop to Attention. I have been discharged 30 years on 19 October and I still "Pop to" in public when I hear it played, despite any strange looks from others. Semper Fi!

  • Arent yall special, we need to fix the parasite in the White House before we start worrying about Regulations.

    Semper Fi

  • They zoomed in on her after the band had already passed General Salinas.

  • I bet though they sound BEST LIVE or you gotta have really good speakers on your computor which I clearly dont have!!!

  • oh my god they played an exhibition at one of the band reviews my band played in, they marched right by us and that was just amazing. it sounded so nice

  • they seem out of step only because the audio is delayed.

  • I love Marching Band!!!

  • Ugh! I marched this dang parade for six years in a row. I don't miss it one bit. I think I only know the drum major now everybody I know is out. They still look good. Yey! There is another video on here where a female general is clapping and sitting down hearing the Marine's Hymn being played. I wouldn't think she would need to be at attention or anything. lol

  • AWSOME JOB BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:20 band conductor

  • GREAT band. What a wonderful tradition.

  • what was that useless dude at 1:20 there for?

  • he looks like a USMC officer to me... holding a director's baton.. so probably the band director or unit leader

  • kunjidee - you're from north of the border, and just in case you're not familiar w/ the Rose Parade - aside from the parade itself, all the bands also perform in a band fest w/ their own musical numbers, presentations or what not.

The "useless dude" you're referring to is a Marine Officer that directs the band.

  • he's the officer of the band like general said he's probably the unit leader or over all battalion. thats jus a guess though

  • He's is indeed the officer of the band. In the case of several bands coming together for the composite band, he's the band officer (director) of the host band. His job on the parade is called "gutter guard." He walks next to the band to make sure they aren't up on the sidewalk or people run into the band. That kind of thing. It's more a ceremonial position, though. The band knows to not march off the street or let people run through the formation. :)

  • hah, yea. i'm in my high schools band, and i remember being instructed last year during the pep rally that if ANYONE tries to walk through our formation we have permission (within reason of course) to make sure they do not get through, whatever that may be...hitting them and blocking their way with a trombone slide, or marching faster to put an arm out and push em away...or even trippin them if we can...theirs a video on youtube of a guy actually doin that to a kid! lol

  • I'm in my high school marching band, and whenever we're in line waiting to go somewhere we can't let anyone through. We've actually pushed little kids to the sides before.

  • @ParamaxFilmings Correct. This is standard military procedure and referred to as breaking rank. Those "little kids" are just lucky you all were a marching band and not a military band.

  • GREAT MARCHING BAND!!!!!!

  • USMC BAND. The Few. The Proud. The Marines. They Always send a chill up my spine. OOOORAAAAAHHHH!

  • HOORAH SEMPER FI!

  • If there is onw thing Marine Bands do better than anyone else, its march parades. There may be better concert bands and better field show bands, but no one plays and marches so precicely as Marine Bands do.

  • I had the honor of watching this group practice at the L.A. Fair Grounds the same day my group was practicing. Not so much practicing, but giving an impromptu lesson on musicianship and marching. Thank you!

  • Indeed, it was amazing watching them march during our break!

  • Military precision at it's best. Look at the instrument angles and listen to that sound. All H.S. bands need to take a look at this video and see how a great band looks and sounds. Excellent job USMC!

  • Send them to 3 months of recruit training and they will have the dicipline to do that, I garentee it.

  • Agreed!

  • @JDEPCOR even if that H.S. band is going to the rose bowl?

  • Yes I see my best friend Cpl Frederickson. OOHRAH!!

  • Thanks for putting this on, NBC didn't show squat!!!
