  • too robotic - you have to understand jazz harmonies to play Ravel well

  • damn your good, really!

im jealous, i play the piano to but im not as good as you!

    well done

  • The Toccata is an extension of the Rigadoun---similar rhythms.

  • yo u still be suckin dat dick

    im his roomate

  • Very good performance of this challenging toccata. You probably need better recording equipment to capture your sounds more faithfully.

  • I love it. Good work. I too think if you added a little more dynamic subtlety your performance would advance from remarkably clear and brilliant to sublime.

  • clearest perfomance ever heared. good job!

  • This piece builds up a lot of tension be being played in unyeilding constant time, always pulsing forward. Those brief fermatas or places where people rest need to be handled very rhythmically. I especially liked how you kept time even in the difficult chord skips. But there are so many temptations in this piece to slow down or speed up, even tiny barely noticable one. The SPARKS really fly in this piece when it is played very dry with at most half flutter pedal especially in the ending

  • Very clear playing. I think it needs a little more contrast and rythm. Maybe it's the recording. Seems like there is no "p" or "pp" anywhere. But still, a few very "biting" accents here and there would sustain the interest.

  • Amazing. This piece is very very difficult to play clean.

However, at :53, I would be maybe a little (just a little) more hushed and maybe just a tad slower, and at :59 sort of build back up to the big chords at 1:05

just my opinion though. great job!

  • wow!!! bravo!

  • a little slow, but technically perfect. fabulous.

  • a lilttle fast. don't care about 144 bpm signed.

    this has to be clear

  • @lundijuno106 Great advice.

  • @lundijuno106 Yes, the clarity and musicality comes first. However, it should eventually be worked up to a faster tempo (which is much easier said than done). Check out David Smith's recording here on YouTube.

And Remy, your performance is fabulous. I'm not going to say anything besides that because this video was posted a good while ago, except for this: Keep up the great work!

  • you're fantastic!

  • my admiration to you. you make it look as if it is the easiest thing in the world. effortless, flawless - a wonderful interpretation of a wonderful piece of music.

thanks for sharing, hope to see more of you in the future

  • such ease and tension free!

    Thanks for the insight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Incredible!

    Delighted to hear you play!

  • beautiful

    sparkled

    wow

    whew!

I am learning this just now--any suggestions?

    fingering?

Is there an article with details on this or any other insight pedagogically speaking about this incredible piece.

( I quit playing for a long time and am just now returning and I WILL do this piece! Maybe not as well as you---but I will do it--any insight from anyone is appreciated!)

  • The easiest and quickist way to practice and be good at this piece is SLOW! I know it's obvious but it DOES make a difference in this piece.

  • any insight on fingering

some of the chords drive me crazy in the early part of the piece!

Do YOU keep the thumb on E and the other fingers 2-5 on the other parts of the chord measure 8 approx.

I will write back when I have the score

    thanks for your time

love to learn from good musicians!!!!

  • Yes, I do keep the thumb on E.

  • If you're talking about measures 5-8, what I did was the play the "G" in the left hand chord (an octave lower, of course), and only played F#/B/D in my right.

  • wow you make the last to pages look so easy.....i have a sheet music version of it up on youtube with gilels playing and your much cleaner than him....but interpretation (especially phrasing) needs a bit of work....like structurally speaking it was fantastic but this ravel you know and all i can say is b section, last to eighth notes of each phrase maybe a little more rubato.

  • Are those trophies and plaques in the background for piano competitions?

  • Yes, those are my trophies for piano competitions.

  • That's very impressive and well earned in my opinion. I realized after I posted my comment that it is kind of obvious... Anyways, hope to see and hear more of your playing!

  • Beautiful performance. Beautiful hands. Technique is perfect. Unlike others, I think your relaxation is perfect. I d like to see more.

  • impressive. haha all right you're good...i don't feel bad about losing to you today. congrats

  • I also notice you are a bit tense, relaxation while playing is extremely important. Try to relax a lot and you will notice a GREAT difference, and you will love it. But don´t exagerate it either. Otherwise it´s an astounding presentation. If you work hard you could play it without one accury failure.

  • I agree with vysehrad and recommend that you work on the

    first repeating notes.

  • I think you are doing very well with your technique. This was rather colorless, however. You need to learn to apply different kinds of touch and make different tone colors, so it does not sound so uniform. And I hope this comment does not sound too negative to you. If your technique were not very good, I would not bother replying. Keep up the good work!

  • Very well played~~!!
