Does Attopilot handle the shutter release? Is it done automatically at preset waypoints or is there a little guesswork when it comes to knowing where the next picture needs to be taken?
@catamaranman333 Its all totally automatic, you can tell Atto if you want the trigger fired over distance or time, mine is set to trigger every 60 meters so its pretty consistent. You just need to make sure the paths are close enough to get an overlap on the left and right of the pictures - if that makes sense :)
@hagfelsh Thanks! :) I will try with autopano pro, ive used ptgui before but microsoft ice is really idiot proof :P
Your welcome to the pictures but theres LOTS of them (80) and theyre about 4mb each.
Im trying to find an easy way to tag the GPS coords of the camera location to its appropriate photo, its a manual process a the moment unfortunately :(
@joogsiethequaker I can't post the link in the comments field here, but search youtube for "Aerial photography stitching with Autopano (Multiple viewpoints)" and check out what this stuff can do!
@joogsiethequaker No worries! If you get a chance, pm me your email address and I'll send you a dropbox invite.. that's a super easy, private, safe, etc way to share things. And free!
Well it all comes down to how you plot your waypoints and how well the airplane will hold to that line between waypoints. Theres heaps of ways to stitch the images together, the method I used for this video was very crude and fully automatic - Microsoft Ice.
If I took the time I could make it look more pretty but it can be time consuming.
AttoPilot logs the Lat & Long of each trigger press so you can do some tricky things with the photos if your super keen.
Man that AttoPilot is looking pretty appealing! So you cut the motor to cut down on vibration I guess. How do you keep up with what areas you've shot and which ones you still need to do? I noticed one small triangle of black....are you just "winging it"?
No, its all automatic, you can connect a servo (like I have) or just have it send a signal to another device which can control the camera with no moving parts. With the servo you just set the end points in the atto, im cutting the motor for 1sec, holding the trigger down for .75 seconds and waiting another second before the motor kicks back in.
Bit of trial and error depending on your camera lens and altitude to get it right.
Only 400ft AGL and insufficient overlap due to tumbling platform. This is why you don't fly photomapping missions in such wind without stabilised camera head. The platform will fly, but the data quality will be low and require a lot of manual corrections (up to a week of processing if you want to bring it to commercial level).
@krbosak I cant go any higher :( the airspeed / pitch is not tuned very well, this was more a torture test then a serious attempt to get professional pictures. Do you like the Canon s90's? I notice you use them on the Pteryx and the photos look fantastic.
Have you tried Microsoft ICE? its very crude but quick and easy.
@joogsiethequaker S90 is good because of bright lens, and so is G9-G11, also many others.
ICE is good... but all photo sare bent. Log output from FLEXIPILOT is interfacing wiht some pro software, liek Enso Mosaic, pix4d etc. There is no easy hack to get past a professional orthorectifying software capable of generating georeferenced tiled bitmaps.
@realtvnow I wouldnt go any other way! :) This one in the video is a Windrider Beevolution, this is my 2nd one, its taken a beating and still looks brand new, ill be upgrading to a Foamaroo when they come out in a month or so... check that one out.
@realtvnow If you can wait ill have mine up in the air in around 4 weeks hopefully, there will be videos galore with any luck - hope I didnt just jinx anything :P
What do you use for stitching your photos together?
FlyingMerf 1 month ago
@FlyingMerf Oops sorry missed your message, for this it was just Microsoft ICE, ive tried ptgui and autopano also but I dont have them myself.

That's some seriously neat stuff! Try stitching with autopano pro--it's by far the most powerful and perfect stitcher out there :)
If you'd care to, I'll use my copy to stitch this flight up so you can see what I mean! PM me if that doesn't sound too crazy :)

So does atto control the camera trigger "attomatically" or is it manually triggered?

You can also manually trigger via the GCS.

I give your program only 4/10 as the plane on the screen in the playback
looked nothing like your wing that was in the air.
Also noticed that the secret facilities GPS coordinates have been blotted out.....
mmmmm... We will find you on google earth
