Our late entry into the war was for a couple of reasons. We didn't have a modern standing army of any real ability. We retooled our economy through Lend Lease, which truly brought us out of the depression. That and getting all of those young men out of the economy and into uniform certainly helped. We cut our teeth in those early battles. If we had gotten into a land war alone with Germany in the early years, they would have mopped the floor with us. Quantity over quality was our major asset.
One of the reasons could humanitarian mess USA would leave after them if they just picked up and left. Think about the public display of beheaded and tortured Afgans that have been cooperating with USA. That might still happen but I think they want to take a long shot and try keep it from happening.

Hey, isn't Eden in Afghanistan? I know that's (according to some geographers and scholars) the area where the river of Eden spoken if in Genesis 10 (i think that's the one) splits into four directions. Maybe Obama just wants to find God.

Afghanistan? Well it's kind of simple why we are there, the hijackers didnt just train there guys, Sure most were from Saudi Arabia but in Afghanistan they were trying to hoard other radical groups(lots of Afghans that HATE americans) to join terrorism on the US.
We should have invaded Afghanistan with full force immediately after the 9/11 attacks but no, we spent more money funding the war in IRAQ. AND FOR WHAT<<<WHY??? I want Mr moore to give some justification on why we invaded Iraq...

Have you looked at the background of the major players in the last administration? Tom Clancy and Stephen Coontz couldn't make this crap up! US News and World Report no longer has access to the article from 1997 about the dealings with the Taliban.

Obama? He HAD nothing to do with it. At least not when it was first in the news. US News and World Report. That was in the really late 1990's. The Taliban didn't want it. They were threatened by the oil companies. They were told to allow it under the threat of violence. That one article opens up more questions that the American electorate can handle at this point. Think about the people involved in this over the last decade. This has gone WAY out of control. Congress needs to investigate this.

Our late entry into the war was for a couple of reasons. We didn't have a modern standing army of any real ability. We retooled our economy through Lend Lease, which truly brought us out of the depression. That and getting all of those young men out of the economy and into uniform certainly helped. We cut our teeth in those early battles. If we had gotten into a land war alone with Germany in the early years, they would have mopped the floor with us. Quantity over quality was our major asset.

One of the reasons could humanitarian mess USA would leave after them if they just picked up and left. Think about the public display of beheaded and tortured Afgans that have been cooperating with USA. That might still happen but I think they want to take a long shot and try keep it from happening.
Also I think it would make it much harder for Pakistan to fight the Taliban if they control a whole country and can use drug money to finance a war.

i see people advocating withdrawal complaining about why we shouldn't be in afghanistan a lot, but what do they want and expect to happen?
if they had it their way, would all NATO troops be withdrawn immediately, and then what would happen to afghanistan?
a civil war perhap?. taliban taking over again? even as cenk admitted, al quaida would probably go back there.
can someone suggest how we would go about leaving afghanistan and how we would leave it. if there is a solution i'm all ears.

first of all the war is not illegal, it had backing from the united nations security council. Second, unlike iraq, which was the mistake, the terrorist did launch their attack from afghanistan. THey may not have originated there, but al qaeda was based there when they lauched their attack. Third, its not like iraq all over again cause theres an actual date to transfer the resposiblity from the americans to the afghans

I may not agree with Moore on most things. but I have to admit I like the guy. Good to see that he is calling out obama on this illegal and immoral occupation. Sad to see people still enlisting & going to Iraq/Afghanistan to die in this banksters war. The men & women making money off the oil & defense contracts are truly EVIL! Michael Moore just went down in my estimation. Of course WWII was the US against Germany, Italy and Japan.
Perhaps the length of time the US had to fight in that particular altercation may have had just the slightest thing to do with the fact that the war in Europe was long past its infancy, and other countries bore the brunt of it?
