  • Layne sounds like he'll never sing 'till Alice is done.

  • I don't know why people are criticizing the band for treating Layne poorly. I didn't hear anything insulting Layne or anything negative at all. I think people are finding every little comment and things they can twist. I did find it annoying that they were willing to kick Layne off in the beginning but that was the radio's fault. I mean I'm sure there were no technical problems.

  • funny motherfuckers

  • That was great, thanks.

  • "I just recorded seven albums at once"

  • Thanks for all of these, its pretty awesome to hear Layne on the phone..its so sad he just faded away over the next few years, he will always be remembered. RIP Layne!

  • "havent heard layne burp, maybe layne e'll fart" hahahahahah jerry!

  • When they laugh after Layne says he is ready is a joke, they would be nothing without him . PERIOD. But Layne , as he shown can bring any band or music to life.

Yes the drugs got to him, but he could still sing, his own life is his own life. Just no road shows..lol must have been hard on the band, but not worth of a chuckle at Layne's public view expense. I hope this haunts them, and i never respect them after i heard this interview.

  • @mtrudel0000 woah, you really took that to extremes

  • Layne had such a sweet almost boyish voice on the phone, its almost hard to believe what came out of him when he sang, the best voice I have ever heard with soul and gets your attention. RIP Layne!

  • look, even though it sounds like jerry sean and mike arent being good to layne, you have to remember that theyre all close and they make fun of each other and they dont take that to heart. just because layne was a drug addict, doesnt mean that as best friends, they would all treat him differently, its just unfortunate that this was his last public interview

  • the last words we ever heard of layne

    :(

  • cant believe he compared him to nomi

  • What do you mean nomi?

  • I no longer no what I was talking about, it was about a different part of the interview and Im sure I was just joking

  • Layne felt he had become a cash cow for rehab facilities

  • At this point I am sure Jerry was pretty upset with Layne. Layne would get high during the recording sessions, where they could record for about 30 minutes, Lanye would get high and sleep in the sudio for hours. When they found Layne high, he would laugh at them for being mad. He did the work with Mad Season, but would not tour with AIC. His addiction ran his life and cause trouble within the band...tough to make AIC music without the lead singer. However he was amazing!!!! RIP Layne......

  • Staley and Cantrells music together was cosmic their interpersonal demons made them toxic to each other and tothemselves. Lane battled heroin addiction for years did anyone try to get him help? We heard very little when he died, but we gotta hear about Cobain for the next F!@#%$^ 20 years+ No respect Staley was the real deal.

  • Yeah people tried to get him help he was in and out of rehab for years.

  • You can't help people that don't want to be helped. To quote Jerry Cantrell and Sean Kinney.

  • @monox2k I'm glad your not in the medical business buddy. I'd hate to have you as my doctor or even my friend

  • @Wesson4 You're an idiot. That quote is from the mouths of Jerry and Sean. There was a time when Layne was in and out of rehab, but that stint ended years before his death.

Sean said recently that he would call Layne once a week to check up on him; and that Jerry tried to get Layne back into rehab on multiple occasions, but he stopped answering their calls.

An addict's first step towards recovery is to open up and accept that they need help. Layne didn't, and that's why he is no longer with us.

  • @monox2k What!? Layne was in treatment 13 times, he knew he needed help, he tried everything! When a drug addict comes out of rehab they need aftercare, support and they can't go back to live in the same environment. they need to get a new place to live in, and friends that isn't drug users. There's always a possibility of relapse, even if you have been clean for a year. It's a life long battle and it isn't easy. Some people make it, some people don't.

  • The reason for Kurt's death being more of an event than Layne's is because Cobain commit suicide in his twenties when he was still front-page news. Whereas Layne faded into obscurity for several years and died of an overdose. It says something when someone is so alone that their body isn't discovered for a couple of weeks, in their own home. That said, it's pretty frustrating how little attention his death got.

  • whats that image there?is it a bootleg?

  • And whoever doesn't belive me about Jerry being the main songwriter, just check the song credits please.

  • What condescending comments, you fucking dickhead. I'm pretty sure that Layne and Jerry were like brothers. Fuck, do you even know them? I know I don't, but I don't go around dissing Jerry in the comments section of Youtube.

  • I'll elaborate for those who didn't get my comment. Jerry held a grudge against layne for not being able to tour in the 90's cuz of his addiction. But layne was able to do side projects, that pissed off jerry. Layne wanted to start touring again and working on music and jerry didn't want to anymore. Thats what I meant and thats what it says in everything I've ever read that either one of them wrote. You're ignorant toxishimmycity, listen to what Jerry says in response to laynes comments.

  • Nope, I'm pretty sure I'm not ignorant. Although i do apologize for insulting you like an immature child haha.

  • when layne says "haha" at the end......

it would be the last thing the public heard him talk...

RIP (rock in peace) LAYNE...LOVE YOU MAN

  • shut the fuck up man, they were all part of alice in chains ,each had a part in the making of the music they created so please, just SHUT UP.

  • Yeah, discard the fact that Jerry wrote 80 percent of the music in Alice in Chains. Layne's the only important member...sure...

  • yes! thank you!

  • Man this was a great funny interview, even though I would've liked to hear more from Layne.

  • I have a friend that is a junkie, and he acts just like layne, talks only when he wants to and is very manic (up and down). Sometimes i will hear from him and we will get together then plan to meet up again and he stands me up. Don't let the fact that he sounds happy fool you, he is probably stoned.

  • well from my understanding of tha stuff, it makes people happy. ive always wanted to do it

  • 'manic' is very true... when I'm stoned I actually barely go on the nod and am like a highly manic version of my sober self

  • well, I know some people who aren't junkies but actually behave like this. so do I when I'm depressed.

  • That's sad because Layne actually sounded happy in this interview. And it would have been nice if they all let him speak more.

  • @sunrise242 I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice.

  • I almost feel bad for people who heard this back in 99. Layne sounded good and like almost happy...when I heard that he called into the show I thought he was going to sound totally off. I'm not sure if it would have been worse to hear him sound decent like he was during the interview or to hear him sound messed up. RIP Layne

  • Sean is a great drummer and a nice guy but he just goes too far sometimes and doesn't know when to shut up.

  • Haha.. i was thinking the same thing,

    through this whole interview!!

  • Thanks for posting all ten parts, loved 'em all

  • i cant even hear Layne

  • Thanks chucklecrew for posting all of these -but there has to be more to do in Albany than Spanktervision and lotion - mmm, maybe not. I live in a small town Albany equivalent in Michigan. Really enjoyed these!! RIP Layne.

  • Layne sounds more lucid and with-it than I would have expected. But I dont think it's fair to criticize the other members for seeming to isolate him. The 5 yrs preceding was probably the usual grind/burnout story.. gallons of goodwill expended till nothing left in the tank. (Not as though we have any way of knowing...just giving benefit of doubt..)

Layne would have been phenomenal to work with this day, but it's deceptive because it might have been 1 good day in 10

  • Currently living in Albany, NY., and making plans to get the hell out, that's the only thing Sean got right in the interview. It sucks here.I would give anything to know why they didn't get together. I heard Jerry say "he's said that before" but so fucking what. He is one of a kind and it would have been nice to hear new music from them just one more time.......Punk!

  • "See you later layne." If they only knew i bet they would of been a little nicer. It was still a great interview. Man getting them all together was hillarious. Would of loved to hang out with them all.

  • adding to the bootleg conversation, live in glasgow 1993

  • i thought it was jerry who laughed, doesnt matter now does it.

  • Thank you Chucklecrew for posting this

  • What a cluster fuck of an interview.

  • what the fuck is bad dream?

  • probably was a bootleg

  • yea good call

  • its a bootleg

  • here's 10! sweet

  • Yea, I noticed that too. What turds.

  • "We learned tonight that Layne is ready to go"

Then you here a slight snicker kind of ironic it seams like the other members were kind of laughing at his situation at this point.

  • yeah, i didn't like that one bit.

  • yea man.. that was really messed up

  • @EXPcustom i noticed the laughing after he said laynes ready to go. what was laynes prob? heroin only? damn!
