What really made this so good was the reaction of the fans. The throwing stuff into the ring, the one fan legitimately charging the ring angry, Mean Gene getting cut by something thrown into the ring. Had that been a regular heel turn, nobody would've said anything.

Simple, ever since Benoit went nuts and killed his family, the WWE has been distancing itself from the whole Attitude era mostly because of the outrage over it. They have had politicians,lawmakers,soccer moms and others on their back. So to keep in business they had to change to a kid friendlier brand.

Well in a sense, that is the catalyst for the PG era, since when it was found out that Benoit had the brain of a 80 year old Althimerz patient due to the many blows to the head he would take,along with the steroids found in his home and system at the time of his death, the media started riding up McMahon's ass again just like in the 90's.
So he toned things down to appease all these soccer moms and crap.
Do I blame Benoit, not really. I am still in shock that it happened.

What really made this so good was the reaction of the fans. The throwing stuff into the ring, the one fan legitimately charging the ring angry, Mean Gene getting cut by something thrown into the ring. Had that been a regular heel turn, nobody would've said anything.
But there reaction, oh man did it create some great entertainment!
