SandozSaxonWilliams: Speed turns the brain to mush and back in the day I always kept away from it. Back then, all one had to do was go to the family doctor and tell him or her that you felt depressed and they would write out a script. Many a housewife became druggies - some who either landed in that big house to become the first lady or almost became one. I don't want to name drop those who dropped what the early Beatles referred to as "prellies." Speed never enhanced thought processes.
what a genius...what an imaginary...pure English..İ wish he could go on making music. cause he did just a little but he became a leged to many people. i can't imagine what would he be, if he could go on...
It's been a long time. I came from the era when it was in pill form. The first time for me was a small blue tab with a peace sign on it. Wow! Totally knocked my socks off in 1969. It was Spring and the first day I noticed green on the trees. Later that year in the Boston Commons, got turned onto a little tiny white pill. Harvard University press stuff. A day later the dude wanted to buy the other 3 parts back. He refused to believe I took the whole thing. I did and it was a super melt of a time.
a lot of amphetamine use in those days too that seems to go underacknoledged...much of what is believe to be LSD inspired was often speed induced as well
Dude what you're saying about amphetamine use is completely true.. in fact the splurge in creativity and imagination in the 60's early 70s has been attributed to the sleep deprived minds using these uppers (by some). anyone who's stayed up more than 2 days on speed, ahem not that id know personally, would know that the general fuzziness of mind plus auditory and visual hallucinations.. plus distorted thinking.. can give you a very different, some may say 'creative' outlook
similar to low-medium dose acid or VERY high dose of ol' MJ.. I mean, I once saw a wooden tribal figure standing on my desk throwing spears across the room at me ffs!
Psyclocybe Cyanscens is esp tasty and has always been in this country but is now firmly established in the UK I believe, though back in 1989 I was in the UK and had copious liberty caps which I found to be most pleasant like a mild LSD-25, with nice visuals and brain ripples like internal body orgasms-like being tickled inside, amongst the flashing from behind ones eyes :D I think everyone over 18 and of sound mind should have a trip-open their eyes and enhance the world-life is forever changed
more about your Xperiences on natural growing natures medi in the fields for us all to collect and enjoy .LSDCoatedBrain did at any time when doing mother natures remies did you have a spirtual , dimentions , other reality Xperience with others shared or on your own .The Youngbloods - Get Together the world .jj7
@maddogj7 Hmm, I think I understand what your asking... Yeah I did have allot of spiritual experiences. Nothing at all religious though, in fact the opposite. There is nothing like being on acid and simultaneously having a feeling of absolute physical pleasure, a feeling of oneness with everyone and everything, especially people you are with, and a realization of the vastness of the universe, or the complexity of life, evolution, or what have you. That is the definitive mind blowing experience.
@LSDCoatedBrain Riders of the Storm unite; somehow the message of masspsychosis (religion) should get out there; more people need to discover the Truth. Sadly, not everyone is fit to be a Rider. Groove on, brother.
@LSDCoatedBrain : chemical experiences are very different from spiritual ones for me...under lsd you are in artificial psychosis, you have the illusion you can touch the essence of everything, the AUM, if you see what I mean, but when you go down, there is nothing anymore, just your shadow which is bigger.
When you have a real spiritual experience, even if it is not so intense, you keep it, you feel like you were hold...you feel your own light deep inside of yourself. Sorry for my bad english.
so LSDCoatedBrain do you do acid or do you just watch stuff for acid lysergyde is great for you when you r young but can be toooo heavy as you start toooo hate the world and the scumbaggs that run it and if youve dropped acid what did you drop
micros mushies or tabs i have dropped them all black micros were awsome but a little tough on the cumming down stage . LOVE . .jj7
@maddogj7 Well, I DID do a ton of acid and mushrooms and stuff, particularly in high school when I made this little account. Although I haven't in a long time, more than a year. However... I still smoke copious amounts of weed. In my opinion you can achieve similar affects by smoking good weed a couple times a week. I don't mean similar psychoactive affects of course, but you can get the same sort of euphoric satisfaction.
This song is hardcore powerful stuff, hear that distortion? The melody/rhythm of the song is amazing, I think REM's song "stand" may have derived from this, 21 guns by greenday maybe too but I dunno. I'm sure many songs were influenced by Syd but this song is OG musical craftsmenship.
I agree that the limelight messed him up more than the acid, they say he had issues before acid but who knows. I've tripped a lot and yea I'm fukin nuts but I'm healthy, creative, and happy.
Is it possible to use some kind of audio editing software or something to make a version of this song with all the instruments removed and only Syd's voice remaining? I'd like to hear an a cappella version of this, so I'd finally be able to clearly hear what Syd sings in the last minute of the song.
I know there is, I have a friend who mixes stuff with a program. Each instrument is a line, as in their different tracks, idk, its hard to explain. Although I don't know what program it is. Also I think the file needs to be in a certain format. The reason why people in the studio can cancel out instruments is because they're usually on different tracks.
@LSDCoatedBrain and @DoctorPencilK Impossible. As LSDCoatedBrain said, if you have the 1969 original multitrack studio tape you'll have Syd's voice. But, once mixed, you just can't unmix the song. It's a physical impossibility.
It would have been so cool if somebody invented a machine or software that could recognize different instrumeents and vocals and be able to tell them apart.
I think it's possible to seperate the two tracks on stereo mixes, though.
@DoctorPencilK I saw what he says written out on a website somewhere, I can't remember where it is now, however. But really, it isn't meant to be understood; he wrote songs for the subconscious, and the end of this song is clearly there for that effect-- it completes the song without you consciously being aware that it does so. That's why his music is so mysterious and so enrapturing.
Yeah, perhaps you are right. It's hard to tell anything for sure when it comes to Syd and the music he made, but I suppose that's what makes his songs so great and creative.
I believe I hear "Tell me, tell me, tell me", "Grace sings you her song" and "China wars" in the end, but I might be wrong about that.
Hmm, I didn't even consider that. I knew that Roger played on some, and I knew Soft Machine did allot of stuff with Syd. Thanks for pointing that out.
Hello there. This isn't Soft Machine - that drumming is far too straight for Robert Wyatt, and there are no keyboards. The only song they recorded with Syd that made it onto Madcap was 'No Good Trying' ('Clowns and Jugglers' later turned up on Opel). I don't think it's Roger Waters either. From what I have heard, they would assemble bands for the backing tracks as needed. Jerry Shirley on the drums would be a decent guess, but I have no clue who played bass. Definitely not Soft Machine though.
trip that he never made it back to the same place in reality that he started from. I think that's reflected in the quality of his music, which, sadly seemed incomplete in many respects. The brilliance is still there, however it seems diminished. Again, sadly.

Yes same here. The end of its so awesome, it was at first supposed to be understandable, but the recording equipment messed up, and Syd decided to leave it.

@DoctorPencilK - Only if the vocals are on one channel and the backing on another.
David Gilmour said recently that he has most of the parts in digital format on a drive - as well as all the un-released stuff.
He is thinking about piecing them all together, mixing them, and generally getting them ready for a future release.
