can someone tell me what tools did he use at the video and what is the black symmetry tool that he's using in order t draw the muscles...i'm a new one at this programme..so any help would be great! :D
@TuPP3 well actually they can be used anywhere even in the games, all you need to do is to export a low rez model - 1000 - 10000 polys and save out a normal map, which is like a bump map but 16 bit and reacts to the lights, or sometimes displacement maps, in the game industry they use both
@aceofspades02 No, the anatomy of the muscles is incorrect. he didn't mean to make all the individual muscles etc... and look realistic. Just what a well toned person would look like
Really nice tutorial, it gives me a ton of ideas. You need to study the muscle positions a little though, i'm a body artist since a lot of years, I can help you out wiht that. Thank you so much 4 sharing this knowledge!
You never see fat Zbrush models. They're always lean. I'd like to see someone do some realistic looking Rubenesque forms, female and male.
But this tutorial is definitely a great method for quickly popping out skeletal muscles. Only the artist should use an accurate visual anatomical reference.
I'm guessing that after you've drawn out the mask, you would select the inflate brush. Mess about with the Zintensity and brush size and draw the inflations in each area.
Then, when you've filled all the muscle areas, clear the mask and use the smooth brush, again changing the Zintensity and brush sizes.
The 'Move' brush is also good for pulling areas around.
Remember to have your symmetry enabled by hitting 'X'.
Move, Inflate and Smooth should be your best friends.
This is rather bad. No offence, mate. After you made the initial contour with the mask, you decided to go waaaay too harsh on the edges with a overdone smoothing. It took away all the detail and left a noobish mesh no one would spend more than 5 seconds looking at.
heres a cool way to sculpt the muscles without haveing to smooth it out, after u mask, keep holding down ctrl + click ON YOUR MESH and it will smooth the MASK out instead of pulling it out, this should save you some time. :)
nice :) who cares if its not anatomically (ppl always go on about that) your lesson isnt about where the muscles r in a body.. its about the masking technique to bring out features non ? lol
very nice zbrush looks like alot of fun compared to most modelers out there. Btw you should see some anatomy books because alot of them you put are incorrect, however still nice model. Can you make a model from scratch or you have to work off of presets? Please send me a youtube message anytime and fill me in on this product :)
you can use presets and you can also create your own models from scratch, for more info on the product, feel free to visit pixologic website: zbrush[.]com
hey im getting zbrush but i was wondering if the model i see in this video is pre-made with it ya know? did u have to make that red model your working on your self or was it already made for you with the program?
The model itself I found on the internet, it is a basix human body model made in 3ds max, but there are a few premade models in Zbrush, 2 human male bodies, elephant a male head and a dog :)
I know, but when you do it all through deformation, It is very difficult to control which muscles come out more or less, It doesnt seem to be a problem with an un posed character, but let's say the character is set to some pose and that means that some muscles are more stressed, while others are not and then I reckon it is better do work with them manually :) but thanks for your suggestion, I've used inflate in the deformation menu when working with wrinkles :)
ahahah, I know, youtube states that a video should not go for more than 10 minutes, but because my file was 10mb large instead of 100 I've managed to upload 16 minutes :)
thanks, I am glad that you like it, the idea is not original, as this technique was used by many ppl to draw wrinkles, so my idea was to try and to apply this technique to muscles
thanks all you do is click ctrl+shift and while holding it, drag your mouse around the area (it would be a green rectangle) that you want to keep visible, but if you want to hide something, keep the rest visible click ctrl+shift but release shift while holding ctrl and drag a red rectangle around the area that you want to hide, to unhide all just hold ctrl+shit and click anywhere outside the mesh :)

I acquired ZB3 and it looks great, tried it out and it's truly fascinating! Although, I have no idea how to Export a mesh from 3Ds and then Import it to ZB3. Could you tell me, please? =)

Super cool. I am new to 3-D animation, heh I use LightWave, and I never heard of this before. I know about adding bumps to a texture but using a tool to make them on the object is amazing.
oh, you should definitely try Zbrush, you can even use it as an addition to Lightwave, all you do is, you build a base mesh in lightwave, bring it into Zbrush, sculpt all of the details and export it as a normal map. this software is widely used in the movie and game industry :), very easy and intuitive to use and also fun :)

So that is cabable to do bump maps real time like that?
That would be very useful, but sculpting model is just waste of time.
Hundreds of thousands polygons containing model can't really be used apart from pre-rendered animations
