To get 400hp from the 4cyl? $3k for a factory turbo car like an EVO/STi, $5k for a DSM or low powered turbo car, $7-8k for a non turbo 4 cyl. For a V8? $500. Cams for a 4cyl like that honda are about $550-600 for a pair, and gain 10hp. Mild cams for my 4.6L V8 are about $900 (for 4) and will net me around 40hp.

LS1s often hit 30mph with the right gearing on the highway and that's "OLD" technology with the pushrod.
So what? its still a shitty Honda that's pretty much useless in everything but highway roll ons and dyno sessions. Why not start with a real car with power going to the right wheels with a motor that doesn't require ridiculous turbo lag, completely built bottom end, and race fuel to make power. An SRT-4 can beat an Evo/STI of the same year in a freeway roll. Does that mean the SRT-4 is a better car than the Evo/STI?

If you know something I don't and that Viper DID have a supercharger, it must have been making at least 500 hp as opposed to the stock 450, and I wonder if that Integra didn't cost about 40 grand at least with the amount of power it's little engine must have been making.

On top of that, you make it sound like it's hard to get 280whp on that Teg? Some good boost and tune. Why are you repeating 500hp. It's not. It's closer to low 400whp. If there was less hate from the muscle guys, we would see way more examples like the new Ford 5.0 starting to use import tech and knowhow and achieving 30+ mpg and 430+ hp from overhead cams and different forms of variable valve timing(vtec)on tuning maps,an automobile should be a beautiful thing, its all personal preference, power is power no matter if it comes from an LS1 or an SR20DET, Sure u can build a viper killing civic for 10k, but can u make it sound and feel like a ZR1 ? We can hope..

The 30+ mpg in the 5.0 is less the technology of the engine and more the fact of the improved transmission. Plus it's the V6 that's rated at that hp and not the V8. An excellent six speed auto with cruising gear and the skip shift and the six speed manual are the reasons. Both are firsts in a Mustang GT. LS1s often hit 30mph with the right gearing on the highway and that's "OLD" technology with the pushrod.
