Asian yards could hardly have built a ship like this anywhere near the same time as the French yard that did build her due to lack of experience in the area. Cunard is an UK company that is part of an Anglo-American group.

Economic reasons. Let me explain.

Each shipbuilder studies the plan , and gives a price to the customer. Some builders even get subsidies from the government to enable them to make a lower bid. The lowest bid gets to build the ship,. The quality of the fittings, will obviously be very nice, but the best possible ??? I doubt it.

The fact it is called Queen Mary is irrelevant. Our royal family is a mix of europeans , and so national pride is not at stake because it is labelled so.

@octadonk ok no it was build in France as chantiers de l' atlantique, got the contract, it was a contest really between many shipyards and harland and wolff from belfast which build the Titanic were interested, but in the end Chantiers de 'l Atlantique got the contract. This ship has grace what does it not have that the QE2 did? This ship is build like the QE2 with a thicker hull than cruise ships, and its faster than a cruise ship, QE2 was faster of course.
