@ScalzaAmericana Generally, they're singers and storytellers that are basically trained to remember and recite poems songs and stories about history and mythology. The "keepers of ancient wisdom" I think they were once called.
I hope at some point to attend Pennsic or Estrella so I can meet this wonderful lady. I am a Bard of Calontir and we often sing her 'Joan' often around the fire and all the ladies get into the song.

Is Bard a real job description? Can I go to college to become a bard? Because I think that would be so boss. Much better than where I'm going now. cause A) I love love love to sing. B) my fave stuff to sing is songs like this. C) I love to travel almost as much as I love to sing. D) I'm mostly Irish, so I think its like destiny and stuff. Anyone have info on becoming a Bard??
Everyone's comment about Heather's place as an SCA bard makes me sad I quit before I was ever exposed to any of the non-combat SCA aspects with the exception of heavy drinking and lechery...
