I just picked up a teddy ruxpin bear at a antique store for 4 dollars. It is the backpack ver of the bear with the MP3 carts. The doll is great shape, but missing the battery pack tray. I found one on E Bay and have it on order, once it arrives I will give the bear to my daughter.
Yeah this was the 1st one made! Then when kids couldn't get enough of Teddy Ruxpin, they made the animated series... I was a Teddy Ruxpin fan when i was little and watching this brings me back to those days :)
Oh my goodness. A random funny internet graph mentioned Teddy Ruxpin, and it sent me 15 years back. This used to be one of my favorite things in my early childhood. How could I have forgotten? Thank you for posting this.
That'd be interesting using Avatar technology from WETA since Avatar did an amazing motion capture job unlike Polar Express with the dead-eyes and flaws and all. Now i think Steven Buscemi should be the voice of Tweeg, Wilford Brimley as Gimmick, Aaron Stanford (X-Men 3 and Hills Have Eyes) as Teddy, Jamie Lee Curtist as Teddy's mother, and Jim Carrey as Grubby's voice.
My grandmother recorded this for me and my sister years ago, but I vaguely remember this special, myself.
This definitely reminds me of Pooh Corner -- mostly because they were produced by the same company -- but the only question I have is: if Newton is a human, why wasn't he played by a live actor?
@ApacheMan2K I believe they went with the puppet for Gimmick so there would be consistancy regarding the "actors." If one of them was a real human amongst puppets, it would seem out of place and "wrong." By having them all puppets, it becomes easier to identify with all the characters, not breaking the suspension of disbelief.
Oh god, this takes me back. I was unsure if this had really existed or if my brain was just fabricating things to go with the live-action intros to the animated series VHS tapes. Good to know this wasn't just some false memory :D
oh my friggin' gawd i actually remember watchin' this when i was a wee tike. i even had a Teddy Ruxpin toy. what the hell happened to that thing anyway?
If you've ever seen the show "Welcome to Pooh Corner" back in the 80s, which was similarly done like this Teddy Ruxpin show, the voice of Teddy (Phil Baron) was also the voice of Piglet.
The creator of Teddy Ruxpin, Ken Forsee, also worked on that show developing the animatronics which were later innovated to create the original Teddy Ruxpin doll.
I did watch the cartoon and liked that one too!!! I had two favorites: the episode where they shrank and the Grungeball episode. I liked both. Apparently, I read an interview with the voice of Teddy and he mentioned an episode where Teddy's family appears. I may have to buy the DVD sets to find that episode.
I rented this video so many times when I was a little kid. Even though I'm in my 20s, I still held onto my Teddy, although he's been long since worn down. Well loved and he's still around. Great memories watching this video!!!
I remember this. I was 11 when it came out. It was a special, but also joined in the animated shows. They put it in to separate the last cartoon made, and the first one made. Not sure if it will come out on DVD though...
I didn't knew this was a pilot, the cartoon was superb though. I was born in 1981 and i had one of those Dolls and i watched the cartoon every weekday morning and DIC did the animation, the guys who did Inspector Gadget, Real Ghostbusters, Sonic The Hedgehog, COPS (The cartoon), and other great cartoons.
You saw it on video right? did you ever watch the cartoon? they have an episode of it here on youtube which is my favorite episode Guests of the Grudge where Aaron becomes that kickass mnster.
yea i did watch the cartoon years ago. but some how once i got older. i never watched it anymore. thanks to rockchick2112 it brought back my Childhood Memory. well some of my childhood memory was bad. but some were good.
Do you think the cartoon is up there with 80's toon classics like GI Joe, Real Ghostbusters, Transformers, He-Man, Thundercats, She-Ra, Bravestarr, COPS, Ducktales, Gummi Bears and more?
Was this the pilot for the animated series? I rarely recall seen this at some point in 1987. However it was the animated series that was being shown.
This one was made first, and was a pilot for a potential live action show. However, it was deemed too expensive an idea, so they nixed it and went with animation instead.
@rockchick2112 Yup, you're right. As irony would have it though, this show did end up in syndication, with the cartoons, but was shown as a 2-part show. I think it said "To be continued..." around the spot where the rocks were falling in.
thank u sooooooooooo much!!! i used to ave this on video and recemtly gave my little girl my teddy ruxpin i was trying to find on dvd 4 my daughter 3 c but with no joy!!!! but now i can show her this instead thank u
thank you so so much for posting this i missed it the first time around and i was so sad of that but now thanks to you the good lord jesus that i found youtube and thank you so much gigahugs and the beginning had a lil static in the sound ooo thats awesome
man, I never thought I'd see this again in my lifetime. this video, along with Teddy Ruxpin himself, was one of the cornerstones of my childhood. it's one of the very first movies I remember ever seeing. can't wait to watch the rest.... I love youtube!!
I didn't get to experience all of the Teddy Ruxpin awesomeness so much, I think it was dying down a little by then. But I remember this movie. I'm pretty sure we have this one on VHS somewhere. my brother and I would watch it all the time when I was little.
this is pretty cool. though, i think in here, as well as the toys, grubby looked kinda odd looking, yet at the same time, he still looked pretty cute.^.^then again, prince aaron also looked pretty odd looking in this movie compared to the book illistations and the cartoon.
Man. I was looking for this and thank you finding it! It's extremely rare to find this special! Teddy Ruxpin looked good when the special was in live action.
I will be 29 in 1 day and i promise you. The same Teddy Ruxpin i bought in 1986 still works and so do all the tapes. I even have the adventure books and of course grubby who you could connect to Teddy Ruxpin
LOL the baby Teddy is a toy Teddy Ruxpin. I loved this series, it didn't talk down to children and if something was morally wrong (i.e. tweeg and the bounders steeling stuff) kids knew right away that it was wrong.
i actually did some research and found, the guy that did voice for grubby(Will Ryan) is the same guy who did "Tigger","Rabbit" and "Eeyore". He also did the voice for "Petrie" the the animated film "A land Before time".
My cousin had a Teddy Ruxpin. I remember owning one of the videos (Take a Good Look) but I forget what happened to it. I also remember renting this special a long time ago.
THANK YOU for uploading this! I miss this so bad! I used to have 2 Teddy Ruxpin bears. I ended up wearing the cassette tapes out. I always thought Grubby sounded like a deep version of Goofy.
haha teddy ruxpin!!! my brother and i used to watch this all the time when we were little, had the bear and everything, but none of my friends have heard of this!!
Teddy factory is short after salling the bears, all over the world, being declared bankrupted,so no one could, send the broken bears back, world of wonder alright!
OHHH man does this bring me back, thank you thank you thank you YouTube! Ya know the 80s had some great movies, characters and tv shows. I think they have a factor that is really lacking in our kids shows today!
It was this theme that made me watch this movie. I loved every bit of the theme and the movie and I'll always love Teddy. Thank You for making my childhood dream come true. *sniff* 8)
Oh my god! Thank you so much! I have been looking to buy this for years. I had it as a kid and it was one of my favorite cartoons. I can only find it in PAL format in the UK and cannot find a VHS for the states. You just made my day!
Wow, thank you soooo much for posting this. I remember renting this movie over and over again when I was younger, and I've been searching for any trace or credit of it for a while now. I can't seem to find any information on it anywhere. Very much appreciated!
Newton Gimmick reminds me of my old High School shop teacher! lmao. *sigh* If only they made a video game based on this show, though. That would have been tight.
Man I Thought The Same Thing I Looked Everywhere Online Like Google And Ebay And The Only Thing That Was Coming Up Was This Movie In Cartoon Format. Does Anyone Know Where I Can Get This On DVD Or VHS????
Your best bet is to check yardsales and just keep checking ebay, ive seen it on there a million times. Its a rare find, you will probably have to spend about 20 dollars if not more.
tweeg reminds me of a ninja turtle and does anyone else find Teddys scream hilarious XD

THANK YOU for uploading this! I miss this so bad! I used to have 2 Teddy Ruxpin bears. I ended up wearing the cassette tapes out. I always thought Grubby sounded like a deep version of Goofy.

OHHH man does this bring me back, thank you thank you thank you YouTube! Ya know the 80s had some great movies, characters and tv shows. I think they have a factor that is really lacking in our kids shows today!

Oh my god! Thank you so much! I have been looking to buy this for years. I had it as a kid and it was one of my favorite cartoons. I can only find it in PAL format in the UK and cannot find a VHS for the states. You just made my day!

Who here besides me thinks that ALL of the voice actors should've been used for the cartoon, not just Phil Baron and Will Ryan for Teddy and Grubby?

Wow, thank you soooo much for posting this. I remember renting this movie over and over again when I was younger, and I've been searching for any trace or credit of it for a while now. I can't seem to find any information on it anywhere. Very much appreciated!

Newton Gimmick reminds me of my old High School shop teacher! lmao. *sigh* If only they made a video game based on this show, though. That would have been tight.

Does anybody know where I can find this I've looked on ebay and amazon but nothing Please tell me where to go.
goonies3000 3 years ago
Your best bet is to check yardsales and just keep checking ebay, ive seen it on there a million times. Its a rare find, you will probably have to spend about 20 dollars if not more.
