I disagree. you can know something without wasting time trying it. I'll never make a tin can full of air go up a hill on it's own then comeback to the start position on it's own. I haven't tried but I do know.
I just had a revelation and i'd like u tot try it. U might put a wider disc below the main disc and stick another magnet , in a position opposite with the other magnets so it will move the balance
"If you don't try, you don't know, do you?" That's what entrepreneurs and great scientists have in common - they all try stuff before knowing it'll work.
Of course it's not a valid concept - it's only going round because of the energy you're feeding it from your hands.
I can understand your desire to give it a go, but you should understand the difference between valid experimentation and simply wasting your time and money.
The laws of thermodynamics are tricky blighters and you won't get round them using magnets.
In the case of ANY perpetual motion machine, we do know that it will NEVER work...so don't waste time trying.
The only reason you machine turns a few times is because you inject energy into it with your hand....when you stop doing that, it stops. This is not because of friction or assymetries in the design...
It is because it has no reason to move if you don't inject it with energy (no more reason than a glass sitting on the top of the table) It will keep behaving this way NO MATTER how you rearrange the magnets and the mechanics.
If everybody took the attitude of not trying because in their infinite wisdom, they didn't waste time because they just knew it wouldn't work, science would be the poorer. What about serendipitous discoveries? You know, like Columbus discovering America while looking for the Orient? Goodyear, accidentally dropping rubber and sulphur on a hotplate, also Fleming & penicillin, Rontgen's X-rays, Botox (Hmm), who knows what might be discovered if only by chance? More home experiments please!
With Columbus, Goodyear, etc, no one had done the experiments before, and there were no well established scientific laws stating that what they were doing was impossible.
By contrast, people have been trying to build over unity machines for 1000s of years WITHOUT SUCCESS. The experiments have all been done and the results are in: OU doesn't work. The best any home experimenter can do now is to confirm the same failures in a futile waste of time, money and resources.
You are missing the point. Tinkering with stuff can lead to observations and discoveries that wouldn't have happened if folks just watched TV all day. I personally applaud anyone who goes to the trouble to do this stuff. It's all learning and even if it doesn't work, they have learned something in a way you can't get from books or websites. Also, just because it isn't done at MIT or result in a published paper, it's perfectly valid to the person doing it and interesting for the viewer. 5*****'s
Given the number of OU postings on YT, it seems to me that for many people this obsession goes beyond "tinkering" and into the land of delusion.
It's a great science fiction story: some guy in his attic builds a time machine/matter transporter/weather controller/warp drive/anti-gravity or whatever, but this is the real world and you guys need a reality check!
While I agree that some are either obsessed and others seem to use YT to sell their wares for those prepared to try but look at the positive side. Some, not all will learn some engineering skills, have to read up physics, may even get an interest and go to college, inspire their kids, use their brain. I'm surprised that someone who favourited 'To be over' should have such a negative attitude! "Do not suffer through the game of chance that: plays
Strange co-incidence - the closing bars of To Be Over were just playing as I saw your message had come in! Great song - great video!
Meanwhile... I played with magnets when I was young and I got a feeling for them and what they can do. I went to college and got a Physics degree. I learned the difference between force, energy and power; I learned that magnetism is a result of Relativity on moving electric charges; I also learned that Yes is a great band and Relayer is their best album!
Yes, bought Relayer, must have been 1975! Saw them in Manchester a couple of years ago. I still find I can listen to Yes and enjoy it. It has a musical complexity that keeps it fresh. Anyway, while I don't expect a perpetual motion machine anytime soon, I enjoy watching how these guys try to solve the puzzle, with some engineering ingenuity. Just read some of the constructive comments, people are thinking - we need that today! Even some of the crass and witty comments deserve a grin.
@vartatoosh Hi, I'm not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me. When you say that "when a system defies apparent & clear rules of physics isn't it worthless?" I would only agree if you can assure me that our understanding of physics are now 100% complete & correct. I think this is unlikely. I personally carried out research that produced anomalous results that defied convention. That was more interesting than dabbling in what we know! I'm interested to find out what we don't yet know.
A problem I can think of in the design is the disc wouldn't be very balanced because the disc's magnet are only on one half , putting stress on the axle (possibly). This is the way they make those vibrating motors in video game controllers (by putting lots of weight on only one side of the axle). So maybe if you put an equal amount of weight (and equally distributed) on the other side of the disc, it would be balanced.
Yes, it's only a design that only goes at slow RPM, but just a thought.
magnetic perpetual motion is not possible, forces are not energy. This is the same reason why we cannot harness gravity in the same way. To create energy from force something must undergo some sort of flux and change its position in space relative to the force, because it takes ENERGY to transfer something from one state of applied force to another. We cannot harness power from magnets more than the book sitting on your shelf
What about torque? One such magnetic device may in fact produce motion in high velocities, but could it really be used to move something, or lift weights? These devices are not like the electric engines, some of which can be quite powerful, and I don't trust such thing will ever be more than simple toys, fun to create but not practical to use.
What about it? All the machines we've been discussing have been attempts to generate torque. However, all MUST rely on object approaching a magnetic pole and then moving away back to the starting position. The energy gained in moving towards is exactly balanced by the energy required to pulling away. The same applies for repulsion too.
A magnet has no more intrinsic energy than does a rubber band. Just because one cannot see a magnetic field does not make it more magical than a spring. These would-be magnetic motor inventors confuse force with energy. For a fairly good description of the problems they face search for "The Museum of Unworkable Devices."
No they're not, but they are a source of force, force if correctly implemented can create power, and in turn energy. It's just a matter of harnessing said 'energy'.
Wind has momentum (mass and velocity). A force is experienced when it meets an object. Energy can be extracted with the concomitant loss of energy by the wind. A permanent magnet is just a spring. A bit of energy can be stored when you compress the field but one cannot get out any more energy than you put in when the field relaxes.
While I still both respect and acknowledge your point of view on the subject at hand I will still disagree with you.
The fact is that I believe it is likely possible to create such a device that would channel this 'push of magnetism' if you would like to call it such.
2ndKnight is right, and you're wrong. Magnets are just like springs, they don't have any intrinsic energy. Have you noticed that people don't bother trying to make free energy spring motors because they know it wouldn't work and it would look stupid and uncool. Just because you don't understand how magnetic fields store and return energy doesn't make them a source of energy. None of these damn magnet motors work - no amount of tweaking the magnets' positions will make them work.
Magnets stationed around a centered object with the ability to tilt minute angles to increase speed of rotation once moving to create a gear like effect from said spinning motion would be enough to create some sort of turning geared motor. It's just a matter of finding the correct size and strength of magnets to efficiently make this device. Ideally they would be decently sized and quite powerful if expected to be moving a gear connected to a shaft.
Push implies the ability to perform work (energy). Work is force acting through distance. A permanent magnet acts only as a spring. A spring cannot push unless it has been first compressed so unless you provide some outside energy to compress these "springs", trying to extract energy from such a system is futile.
The fact that you are so anal retentive about wording is quite childish. Though you may think you sound intelligent, vocabulary is not the topic we are discussing. Scientists had a hard time understanding magnets and their energy, yes E-N-E-R-G-Y, when they first were looking at them from the point of view of other sources of energy. Now they know how and why magnets expend these forces. They made the correlation between electricity, magnets, and electromagnets.
I have link that would help you comprehend this better but I doubt you'd take the time to look it over.
I will not be replying any further, as nice as I have been, your stubbornness is overwhelming. Though your ignorance is prevalent today, you will one day be put to shame. All inventions are laughed at in their early stages, but I bet you never wanted to be that guy. One last thing, you weren't the guy who invented horse blinders were you? You would have made a great spokesman.
"All inventions are laughed at" is such a trite saying brought out by every crackpot defending his megolomania. Most deserve to be laughed at. One way to stop the laughing is to prove it, and shut up whining about "all inventions are laughed out". Prove it and become the savior of the world, instead of just another ignorant crackpot.
Have you realized yet that you have created a mechanical motor. The energy you put in to move the magnets is the energy that is rotating the disk, no more and a little less due to natural resistive forces from friction and imperfect timing.
You have demonstrated how an AC single phase motor works. By alternating a magnetic field around a magnetic core. In a proper motor electricity generates the magnetic field that you are mechanically alternating.
This design is very interesting. You still have to get around gravity and friction somehow. Alot of people are plan rude on this subject but overunity is the future.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Man thats a fucking ugly construction. Its as loose and floppy as a flaccid penis. It must be generating enough energy to destroy itself. What do you call it, Perpetuum Abortionum Mobile.
don't try and sail the world you'll fall off.... and we'll never put a man on the moon. th only people who dont want us to suceed are the people already in control of todays inventions and resources. fuck them. keep on trying!!!
You're confusing absolute laws of physics (which is what will ALWAYS prevent these ideas from working) with superstition and difficult engineering challenges.
There were never any LAWS preventing sailing round the world or landing on the moon. There ARE laws (that ARE correct) preventing this silly sort of idea ever working.
I applaud your efforts! It's a good concept and I'm sure it's making a little nutty because it would seem you're on the cusp of the thing taking off. sometime walking away form a project for a while will give your brain a chance to sort of "reset" and then re-approach again. Of course once you get it running the next step is practical application.I'm sure a tinker toy is not your ultimate goal.
Not likely. People who study the principles of these devices, and know their impossibilities. Will use their knowledge to invent real devices that actually work. That's why you won't find any scientists wasting their time on devices like this.
Come on Guys this is a GREAT concept. The seesaw has 2 permanent magnet right what he could do is remove the wheel place an electromagnet @ the top and bottom of each magnets on the seesaw. Use a microchip or a computer to switch them on/off to pull and repel the magnet as the magnets pass in midair up and down without touching anything place sets of coils on the side where the magnets passes. the induced current from coils stepup and stepdown on transformers to provide electricity
Hi Eltimple, Your principle is there. get rid of all magnets on perimeter which cannot jump/see-saw. This principle is similar to Troy Reed's "Surge magnetic motor car" but he died just before going into production. I believe his backer and cousin, Dennis Weaver (actor) died around the same time. Does anyone know how Troy Reed died ? search "magnet surge car"
hahah , this looks funny:) Why not to do some mechanic swich that will lower the magnes when the cicrle is rotating? The answer is: BECAUSE THIS IS IMPOSIBLE :)
Well, I'll fill you in. It's not a valid concept. It's just your "motor" working in reverse. You spin the wheel and the see-saw will move. You move the see-saw and the wheel will spin.
Either way, you are providing the motive force with your hand. You could probably get rid of the magnets and find some way to do the same thing with strings attached to it and you pull the string instead of a magnet. Same thing.
It's people like you that keep us from improving, how thick do you have to be to say "everything i can't see myself isn't true"? Wake up, and smell the theory's of improvement
Quite the opposite. It is people like you, who are obviously quite intelligent, who waste their intelligence on things like this because they are ignorant of what is really happening with their machine. Use your creativity and intelligence working on an invention that has a real chance of succeeding and improving the world. The magnetic force does nothing different here than it would if you had elastic bands attached. Energy is conserved.
And who invented those things, did they not have a path of mockery to walk? Noone knows what an invention is going to change in the world, and they'r often the the strangest things.
Headybrew trying to convince people that magnet motors won't work for the same reason gravity motors don't work is like beating your head against the wall. They just won't accept very basic laws of physics as being true or believe that by fiddling with a magnet, a bit of string and some tinfoil they will somehow unlock some magical endless supply of energy from nowhere while 1000's of scientist's somehow missed it. I swear, free energy should be considered a religion.
there is prolly a way something like this could work. even if not really PM. it would still be better than the 8% efficiency of the combustion engine. but the oil companies and the military-industrial complex that controls the guberment dont want the public to have access to clean, free energy. they want to continue to control us and keep us as slaves to the machine.
how long have we been using the same stupid old design of the combustion engine? how long? how much about the combustion engine has really changed? evry fcking thing else is innovated, updated, modernized, made better, more efficient. we just keep getting the same stupid carbon fuel based energy systems shoved down our throats! why? WHY?
Money and Power. those that have it want to keep it. they control and censor new technology like this.
my point is the general efficiency (or lack thereof) of the energy conversion/output. a combustion engine is a combustion engine. take away the computer chips, smog control, blah blah blah and its still doing the same thing in the same way. if you think todays gasoline engines are significantly more efficient those of 50 years ago, you are deluded or brainwashed.
Its a 2 stroke! ;)

It is more fun to know WHY these things don;t work.
This whole free energy movement is more a religion than sciense.

Of course it's not a valid concept - it's only going round because of the energy you're feeding it from your hands.

"If you don't try...you don't know"
In the case of ANY perpetual motion machine, we do know that it will NEVER work...so don't waste time trying.
The only reason you machine turns a few times is because you inject energy into it with your hand....when you stop doing that, it stops. This is not because of friction or assymetries in the design...
orion1077 2 years ago
...(continuation).
It is because it has no reason to move if you don't inject it with energy (no more reason than a glass sitting on the top of the table) It will keep behaving this way NO MATTER how you rearrange the magnets and the mechanics.
orion1077 2 years ago
@orion1077
I am completely bemused by the number of YTers who think that they can get round thermodynamics simply by arranging magnets in a particular pattern.
Well done to you for pointing out their error - and shame to the people who gave you negative votes.
Hey everybody - over unity machines are impossible - stop wasting your time and do something useful instead.
mandolinic 2 years ago
If everybody took the attitude of not trying because in their infinite wisdom, they didn't waste time because they just knew it wouldn't work, science would be the poorer. What about serendipitous discoveries? You know, like Columbus discovering America while looking for the Orient? Goodyear, accidentally dropping rubber and sulphur on a hotplate, also Fleming & penicillin, Rontgen's X-rays, Botox (Hmm), who knows what might be discovered if only by chance? More home experiments please!
alanstarkie2001 2 years ago 2
With Columbus, Goodyear, etc, no one had done the experiments before, and there were no well established scientific laws stating that what they were doing was impossible.
By contrast, people have been trying to build over unity machines for 1000s of years WITHOUT SUCCESS. The experiments have all been done and the results are in: OU doesn't work. The best any home experimenter can do now is to confirm the same failures in a futile waste of time, money and resources.
mandolinic 2 years ago
You are missing the point. Tinkering with stuff can lead to observations and discoveries that wouldn't have happened if folks just watched TV all day. I personally applaud anyone who goes to the trouble to do this stuff. It's all learning and even if it doesn't work, they have learned something in a way you can't get from books or websites. Also, just because it isn't done at MIT or result in a published paper, it's perfectly valid to the person doing it and interesting for the viewer. 5*****'s
alanstarkie2001 2 years ago 48
Given the number of OU postings on YT, it seems to me that for many people this obsession goes beyond "tinkering" and into the land of delusion.
It's a great science fiction story: some guy in his attic builds a time machine/matter transporter/weather controller/warp drive/anti-gravity or whatever, but this is the real world and you guys need a reality check!
mandolinic 2 years ago
While I agree that some are either obsessed and others seem to use YT to sell their wares for those prepared to try but look at the positive side. Some, not all will learn some engineering skills, have to read up physics, may even get an interest and go to college, inspire their kids, use their brain. I'm surprised that someone who favourited 'To be over' should have such a negative attitude! "Do not suffer through the game of chance that: plays
Always doors to lock away your dreams"
alanstarkie2001 2 years ago
Strange co-incidence - the closing bars of To Be Over were just playing as I saw your message had come in! Great song - great video!
Meanwhile... I played with magnets when I was young and I got a feeling for them and what they can do. I went to college and got a Physics degree. I learned the difference between force, energy and power; I learned that magnetism is a result of Relativity on moving electric charges; I also learned that Yes is a great band and Relayer is their best album!
mandolinic 2 years ago
Yes, bought Relayer, must have been 1975! Saw them in Manchester a couple of years ago. I still find I can listen to Yes and enjoy it. It has a musical complexity that keeps it fresh. Anyway, while I don't expect a perpetual motion machine anytime soon, I enjoy watching how these guys try to solve the puzzle, with some engineering ingenuity. Just read some of the constructive comments, people are thinking - we need that today! Even some of the crass and witty comments deserve a grin.

I agree with you, we got to try. But when a system defies apparent and clear rules of physics isn't it worthless?
Today Scientists can measure the diameter of electron, put a robot in mars, build a robot not bigger than a
molecule ... and you still insisting such a simple design is too complicated for them?
Before doing anything I personally read the results of all experiences which has done in that field and getting some ideas.
vartatoosh 11 months ago
@vartatoosh Hi, I'm not sure if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me. When you say that "when a system defies apparent & clear rules of physics isn't it worthless?" I would only agree if you can assure me that our understanding of physics are now 100% complete & correct. I think this is unlikely. I personally carried out research that produced anomalous results that defied convention. That was more interesting than dabbling in what we know! I'm interested to find out what we don't yet know.

clayton1979 2 years ago

We cannot harness power from magnets more than the book sitting on your shelf
landsealions 2 years ago 2
What about torque? One such magnetic device may in fact produce motion in high velocities, but could it really be used to move something, or lift weights? These devices are not like the electric engines, some of which can be quite powerful, and I don't trust such thing will ever be more than simple toys, fun to create but not practical to use.
flubberix 2 years ago
"What about torque?"
What about it? All the machines we've been discussing have been attempts to generate torque. However, all MUST rely on object approaching a magnetic pole and then moving away back to the starting position. The energy gained in moving towards is exactly balanced by the energy required to pulling away. The same applies for repulsion too.
mandolinic 2 years ago
A magnet has no more intrinsic energy than does a rubber band. Just because one cannot see a magnetic field does not make it more magical than a spring. These would-be magnetic motor inventors confuse force with energy. For a fairly good description of the problems they face search for "The Museum of Unworkable Devices."
2ndKnight 2 years ago
Magnets are not a source of energy.
2ndKnight 2 years ago
No they're not, but they are a source of force, force if correctly implemented can create power, and in turn energy. It's just a matter of harnessing said 'energy'.
nate081304 2 years ago
Force is not energy. One might as well try making a motor out of rubber bands. They are cheaper.
2ndKnight 2 years ago
Wind has force does it not? Harnessing it has become possible now through today's technology.
Magnets aren't quite up to speed but I feel that one day, once applicated correctly, could quite possibly become very efficient means of energy.
nate081304 2 years ago
Wind has momentum (mass and velocity). A force is experienced when it meets an object. Energy can be extracted with the concomitant loss of energy by the wind. A permanent magnet is just a spring. A bit of energy can be stored when you compress the field but one cannot get out any more energy than you put in when the field relaxes.
2ndKnight 2 years ago
While I still both respect and acknowledge your point of view on the subject at hand I will still disagree with you.
The fact is that I believe it is likely possible to create such a device that would channel this 'push of magnetism' if you would like to call it such.
nate081304 2 years ago
2ndKnight is right, and you're wrong. Magnets are just like springs, they don't have any intrinsic energy. Have you noticed that people don't bother trying to make free energy spring motors because they know it wouldn't work and it would look stupid and uncool. Just because you don't understand how magnetic fields store and return energy doesn't make them a source of energy. None of these damn magnet motors work - no amount of tweaking the magnets' positions will make them work.
claymodeling1 2 years ago
(continued..)
Magnets stationed around a centered object with the ability to tilt minute angles to increase speed of rotation once moving to create a gear like effect from said spinning motion would be enough to create some sort of turning geared motor. It's just a matter of finding the correct size and strength of magnets to efficiently make this device. Ideally they would be decently sized and quite powerful if expected to be moving a gear connected to a shaft.
nate081304 2 years ago
Push implies the ability to perform work (energy). Work is force acting through distance. A permanent magnet acts only as a spring. A spring cannot push unless it has been first compressed so unless you provide some outside energy to compress these "springs", trying to extract energy from such a system is futile.
2ndKnight 2 years ago
The fact that you are so anal retentive about wording is quite childish. Though you may think you sound intelligent, vocabulary is not the topic we are discussing. Scientists had a hard time understanding magnets and their energy, yes E-N-E-R-G-Y, when they first were looking at them from the point of view of other sources of energy. Now they know how and why magnets expend these forces. They made the correlation between electricity, magnets, and electromagnets.
nate081304 2 years ago
I have link that would help you comprehend this better but I doubt you'd take the time to look it over.
I will not be replying any further, as nice as I have been, your stubbornness is overwhelming. Though your ignorance is prevalent today, you will one day be put to shame. All inventions are laughed at in their early stages, but I bet you never wanted to be that guy. One last thing, you weren't the guy who invented horse blinders were you? You would have made a great spokesman.
nate081304 2 years ago

Use a microchip or a computer to switch them on/off to pull and repel the magnet as the magnets pass in midair up and down without touching anything place sets of coils on the side where the magnets passes. the induced current from coils stepup and stepdown on transformers to provide electricity

Same thing.
