In the meantime I'll do my best to avoid spoilers on the internet... I've also learned that it's generally a bad idea to buy any Gainax products when they first come out because they always try to milk the public by re-releasing special editions and collectors editions a few months after the 'complete' box set. (But after so many years of financial difficulty who can blame them?)

well the sea is completely filled with blood and kaworu comes from space so it definitely has another start, when i watched the first one I thought it was the world that was left after the movie. but who knows, i think its gonna defintely have a different ending, or at least a new animated one.

/faceslam, you underestimate Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, he was in charge of the character designs from the original series, so naturaly they would look oh I dont know SIMILAR, but for him to do it with this level of accuracy and quality sense the last series is outstanding.

believe what you want, but this was set in motion by the original director, Hideaki Anno, the first anime series was fine. But lets face it it is rather aged, not so much the ideas but the medium in otherwords the animation. If there ever is to be a rebuild of eva it should be by the original director (hideki anno) and the original character designer (yoshiyuki sadamoto). AND HOW THE FUCK IS NOT USING THE ORIGINAL DESIGNS NOT outstanding, what pisses me off the most about other series remakes...

is the fact that there is always a change in design, thats pure BS. Im glad they got rebuild looking like the original as much as possible, cleaner and "better" animation yes but as long as it does justice to the original. Now plot wise or entertainment value wise, this series does deviate from the originals subtle brilliance, however I had already knew from very early on that this series will be made to be less ambiguous to the masses. For the originals sake I hope anno pulls another EoE.

I don't think it was made entirely clear, but there were plenty of strong hints. This is in fact a signature of sorts of the evangelion series - almost nothing is made clear, but there are strong hints for everything, and you are free to come to your own conclusions. Reflects the way we live life.

agreed, but also lost some key pics----like in 1st ep where did the sce Eva01's hand automatic raised to protect 碇 even it's not powered....etc. It was the bio link between Eva01 and 碇. but anyway good rebuild. more clear on whole pic for the storyline

Exactly, the movie is a lot more about action and the graphics, not so of a complicated plot or Shinji's depression.

I also noticed that they made the EVAs a lot more mechanic, there weren't so many hints of them actually being... well, you know, like in the original series.

However, the movie for some reason stresses the Angels being... well, more human. They all actually bleed and one of them even sounds like it's screaming like a woman when hurt!

Japan is getting the DVD release in April - Over here they have to import it, dub it, translate menu screens and so on - it's only speculation but possibly July or August

Hmm, no, I wouldn't say 'original' quite to that extent, even Evangelion had a lot of influences, such as Space Runaway Ideon, an anime from 1980, which in turn had influences from Star Wars, 2001: Space Odyssey, and even an episode named 'Planet of the Apes'.

There's also literary influences Evangelion had such as Arthur C. Clarke's "Childhood's End" and Jospeph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness", which have influenced works that came both before and after Evangelion.
