  • Question: since you said two computers on the same network can't share the same IP address; I was able to connect my desktop to the network via an ethernet cable from my laptop (which was using wifi). In this situation does my desktop still has it's own IP address?

  • @Reza254 Hi, hope this will help..

    Two devices accessing internet from a common gateway or the same router cannot have same IP addresses. In your case, your laptop is the router or gateway for your desktop and your laptop has a different gateway i.e. your router.

    So there are two networks, one for your Laptop and one for your Desktop. Your desktop's Ip address can be similar and is independent to any device's IP connected directly to your router, but ofcourse not the Laptop.
