This isn't nearly as nuts as Dan Osman's free climb of "Bear's Reach", where he actually pulls a dyno move 400 feet off the ground. If you have the guts to free solo - go for it. But, not for me. I much rather prefer roping up.
What an incredible mountain! Grand Teton and Gannet Peak have to be the two most amazing peaks in the lower 48. Sorry Mt. Rainier. Did you guys free solo the whole thing?
I am from wyoming and have been climbing my whole life... solo climbing is irresponsible and dangerous. these people are idiots. I do not want to be on this mountain with these people. I have seen solo climbers fall in the wind river range and put other peoples lives in danger to save them and helicopter them out, and the grand is a very exposed mountain - one mistake and you are dead. Keep that crap in california, please.
@erikjames307 "solo climbing is irresponsible and dangerous. these people are idiots"
I'm sorry I have to disagree with you. Yes of course it is more dangerous, but if you have the skill for it, it is an incredible accomplishment. Half Dome has been free soloed afterall.
Ignorant... I hope you fall. Look up George Gardner - an Exum guide who was climbed this mountain numerous times and had a lifetime of mountaineering experience. He went for a solo accent in 2008 on a 5.7 and "fell like a kid on a monkey bar" to his death. I do not respect anyone who has no respect for the mountains. I have spent my life in the mountains, and live and have been all over the state of wyoming. You sound like a city slicker from NY or CA
@erikjames307 The fact that someone dies on this mountain has little to do with how safe or hard it is to climb. No one is suggesting that you climb this mountain. As for George, he wasn't on the same route as David.
this is great watching this video. i rememberd every pitch of this climb. i climb the os route this past summer when i was 13 and it took us 6 hours from the hut. did you do a day climb?
what info can you give me on the gear needed and the difficultly of the route. im interested in doing this in the summer but need all the info i can get! Help anyone?

Two things. Weather and the Black Face. If you can handle both of them your fine. The black face is pretty fuckin intense though!
