Same thing now with the carbon 29r HT. Specialized advertise 29er through Wells saying that 29rs have only advantages and none disadvantage. Are they as nibble as a 26er? Do they have heavier wheels? Do they accelerate as quick?
Todd also likes to ride big and he is a big rider as well (1.90). When he raced for GT, he rode the XL Zaskar with 635mm horizontal top tube.
When market will fed up with 29ers we will have the resurrection of the 28ers
This debate will go on and on for the next years, as the debate HT-FS the last 10 years. Cycle companies need something like that to keep selling new products, for example look Specialized. 5-8 years ago they had an exceptional racing alu HT but they forced their riders to ride the Epic FS in order to promote and sell that platform.
@tsioumas ...true, to win a race you have to be fit and have good legs. But is also real that you don't ride well if you don't have skills. So, the size of the tires doesn't matter.
Check also the other videos of the 24h of Finale and you see other people with 29ers that ride very well in the 'toboga' section of that race. ;-)
@29pollici If you read my first reply, my objection is for sort guys and most women (shorter lets say than 1.70-1.75). Sure bigger people can handle them as good as a normal 26'' bike and from one point after its a matter of personal preference.
@tsioumas i believe the problem is only for riders below 1.65 mt. For rider in your range is really a matter of personal preference. For a rider above 1.80 looking for an hard tail a 29er in my opinion is a better performance bike.
@tsioumas Nowadays is not true. Modern 29ers in the small size track singletracks really well also for short guys. A lot of womens are racing 29ers and winning in these days also more than pro men.
ragazzi, mi fate venire voglia di single speed! Ma soprattutto per l'ambiente! Vedere i forumendoli con cui di solito mi confronto e parlo piacevolmente fa un certo effetto!

Yep, I can see from this video, they ride like truckers...
Races are won by the legs, not the size of the wheels

Women & short guys can't handle niners, to big for them. They struggle on single track.
