vids from a gig at leeds bierkeller (filmed by jettisoundz), with black flag and the cult maniax in early 80s. Turtle and Raymond were both on stage, not to be confused - former younger latter much older.
They came late on the London 'Anarcho' scene but they none the less blew the dusty, dogmatic cobwebs off it and gave the scene some colour back to the scene, as well as a much needed boost of undiluted humour into the arm.
They're gigs were always good fun, they were political, but they also liked to have fun as well, Good piss take lyrics as well.
My god they were bad.. Never as good as the clowns!!.. Wots this anarcho stuff? Goldfish swim better.. Try TELFLIMS on youtube, its where its hat man/non man hehe Stringy ex human
Is that "Raymond" (the old French geezer that used to turn up at all the gigs, shouting "We love you!") dancing (about 1min 07 sec.)? It looks like him.
How funny, I have been talking about that bloke with another person at a different video. It seems that he is one of those people you never forget, in the other version he was a veteran of the failed Hungarian uprising of the 60's (a trustworthy source I'm told). Whatever his back round, he has managed to capture the imagination of us ex-'young punks'. mostly impressed I would imagine by his olive growing/farming looks and Spanish civil war clothing, me included.
FAN-bleedin'-TASTIC!!!!! So chuffed to see this - I ADORE Hagar The Womb! (Note Cult Maniax backdrop, like HTW, a very much underrated punk band from le 'eighties). Bless yer for posting up this gem, davedave25!
This must have been mid 80s. Their mini-album was produced by 'The Mad Professor' - a John Peel favourite. I've got the album - some great stuff on it!
Do you mean 'word of the womb' with the giraffe on its yellow cover? because I would love to know if there is anything else by them released, they were great live, they gave off a happy fun vibe that was a bit of a relief when set against all the serious 'politicking' of the rest of the bands and the 'Nagasaki restroom' surroundings of all the banners and posters.
I didn't hear about them stateside until they'd morphed into "We Are Going To Eat You" and got a lot of alt-radio airplay with "photograph". It's nice to see their earlier rawer stuff.
Never thought I'd ever see stuff by Hagar the Womb on the net. Used to write to Ruth in the days that everybody wrote to everybody. All I can remember is the most amazing handwriting i've ever seen. Nice people and awesome vid! ty
Anyone know where this was filmed?
Was it the Autonomy Centre in Wapping?

Was it at the Fulham Greyhound?

Yeah, it was. I didn't know quite what to make of him at the time. In retrospect, he was probably an interesting guy.
What gigs did you see there?
fuktheusa 2 years ago
Raymond (sadly no longer with us) was Romanian. He used to be a monk in Transylvania when he was younger.
