I have 2 Pyrs. One of them was very aggressive and territorial when he was in his youth, had to butt heads with him a couple of times to show him who was boss. now he's alot calmer and more mellow (he's also older too), but these dogs really need a leader otherwise they'll dominate you
I live in Indiana, and on aberage, the warmest temperature is probably in the 80s... would that be too hard on a dog like this, or would it manage if it could lie around all day, under a window sticking out from the house?
Seriously, in the room I'm sitting in, we have three windown built into this block that sticks out from the house, and my current dog, Sam, dug out a spot to lay in, under it.
@n1b3luNg I live in Denver and in the summer the temps can get up to 100 (yes, its true). My Pyr ( and my Lab) will lay around in the house in the summer. A Pyr loves the cool weahter so fall and winter are the best However, in the summer, my Pyr will go outside for a while and come in to veg. lol

Pyrs have a personality that is unlike most dogs you know. I am generalizing a little bit but I think this is generally true. They are more like cats than dogs in terms of their independence, unwillingness to submit to fetch, heel, etc. dog commands, and they have a tendency to roam and bark. These are dogs that are still used by ranchers to stay with their livestock full time to ward off predators. Just be aware of these peculiarities before you adopt a pyr.
I have a pyr/white german shepard mix. Diamond is more pyr than shepard. Those that have had pyrs for a long time, any thoughts on why Pyrs dont seem to do well in dog compititions, like
Westminister. do Pyrs have similar traits to the Kuvasz?
i have a GP his name is ma he's 8 weeks and hes so playful and his qualities are great. he has an awsome pernality and hes very smart already a great dog on a leash
i had one that i bottle fed from 6 days ole she was 13 when i had to put her down because she was having health problems. it was a sad day. i would gladly own another!
would these be a good companion dog?i want a livestock dog that can protect me and my house yet i want one that is a good companion also, and are they strong?i want to make sure i get a strong dog.they look like big dogs or is that just all the fur?oh and i might start travelling alot in hot AND cold weather so does this breed have stamina and can it adapt to different climates?
I have a pyrenees/bernese mountain dog. Hes a good dog, only 11 months, but hes already pretty protectve and strong. He is a good companionn. He is really attached to our family and gets upset if we leave him even for a few minutes. when its hot he just sleeps...i guess thats how he adapts. it is a lot of fur too...
This makes me miss my GP I had for 10 years. His name was Harry, and he was literally the best, smartest, and most well-tempered I have ever had. Miss him so much. Want to get another one when I get out of graduate school, and maybe a Newfoundland.
lol i luv watching thse type vids.i have 2 G.P. one is 11 years old, and the other is 4 months, but she is tiny and not as fluffy becuas she isnt a purebred. shes tall, and rlly fast! check out my channel 4 vids of my dogs! ijust got my puppy a few weeks ago, and she is so sweet! i luv ur vid! r allthe dogs urs?
Hi, I was wondering are all pry puppies fluff when born? I just got one and I keep seeing all these pry dogs and it makes me wonder what is wrong with mine.
are these good dogs? I want one, but I have never owned a dog, are they hard to train? I have done research on the breed and they sound good, but for you guys that own them, are they a good dog to have? you can be honest
Pyreneans are a fantastic breed of dog to own. I personally think you must have 3 vital things to own one:
1) A nice big garden/house for them to roam
2) Patience and the dicipline to train them (it is a MUST to train them when they're younger as they're harder to do so when heee-uge!)
3) The ability to show them love. Pyreneans love to be loved. They're also very loyal to their owners and very warm around children...if introduced to them early on in their life obviously. So do it! Get one!
Great dogs...i live were the summers are brutally hot, so i shave my Pyrenees in the summer to keep him from overheating, sounds silly but put sunblock on skin or they will get bad sunburn...but other than that, they are not a whole lot of maintenance
they are amazing. Loyal. But you need to train, train, train. They also bark and dig alot, and can be headstrong and vicious if they think they are the boss. They are really caring, and sweet, but you need time and love and care.
i bought a great pyreenes puppy(srry spelt it wrong.) Her name is Lily, and i LOVE her! great pyr's are awesome dogs, and are super fluffy, so i like cuddling with her!!!
I think at least a couple of you GP owners are not too bright. Double dew claws on the rear legs ia a breed standard - to be without them is a fault. In addition, ear hematomas are not genetic.. they are generally caused by the dog clawing his ears or shaking his head to get rid of fleas or mites. Check the health of your animal.
I found my GP on an amish farm in Arthur, IL. She has a great pedigree but seems to have a couple of genetic problems. At 4 months old she developed HUGE hematomas on both ears which we had fixed with surgery. No big deal but she also has 2 dewclaws on each hind leg! She is sweet and beautiful and since I don't plan to breed her it really isn't a problem but I wondered if anyone else has had problems like these.
OH MY GOD..... If i had a huge farmland with sheep, i'd get one of these doggies in a heartbeat. XD But as i am, i'll have no sheep for them to protect and my lifestyle would be inconvenient for the needs of this dog. :\
Beautiful dogs, my Great Pyr started out an all white color, and how he ended up a very tawny and white, he's the first one I'd ever seen to do that, lol.
My parents used to run a Pyr kennel called Ventiska. We've had pyrs my whole life. This video was a walk down memory lane! Thank you so much! My husband and I are thinking about continuing the tradition now! OH and pyrs CAN handle Florida, but the upkeep of having their fur clipped short so they're comfy is UNGODLY.
I have one of these dogs and i live in tupelo ms, he is 6months old now i believe i will have to shave him when it gets summer he will hate it too hot for him, but he is the best animal yet pure white and a personailty of his own...his name is ozzy lol thought i would just share...they are awesome intelligent dogs.
hi! i live in south mississippi (just north of biloxi) and i have a 3 year old great pyrenees and the last two summers we have shaved him...he is so much happier in the summer when he's shaved...he looks pretty cute like that too =) btw..his name is napoleon...good luck with yours!
Well, I wouldn't advise you to put a Pyrenean Dog in a tropical surroundings. My own dog likes to be outside in the winter, even when it is freezing. In summer when it is hot you can see that they don't like it. They constantly looking for shade.
When we had our Pyr we were living in Chatsworth, California. Summers here were in the triple digits so we did our walks in the evening. The poo-bear didn't seem to mind the weather too much, but we were more desert than tropical. And, we never shaved the pooch, they can sunburn without their protective coat.
Thanks for posting such lovely video, I think GP puppy is one of the cuties thing in the world. We have 2, mother and son, Katya, 8 and Gandolf, 4, love them very much and enjoy every moment with them, Great dogs and don't want other breed other than GP!!!

thanx 4 that my misty and troy had 14 pups 6 1st then 8 kept 1 of last batch named him corfus this is troys pedigree name (his dad)you can see him on u tube getting up to his usual trix and as u can c garden has been overhauled many a time compliments of. but we luv em 2 bits he also likes kidz trampoline.
I lived with a Pyr for 8.5 years. Shared many adventures together including mountain biking, and snowshoeing. He was an excellent friend--I now have two Kuvaszok, but still think of 'Shadow' all the time.If inner qualities determined lifespan dogs would outlive their human friends.
I miss my dog sooooooooooooo much now. He looks very similar to these dogs. He was a Labrador/Saint Bernard mix. Big as a Saint Bernard with colors and mask. I had him for five years. He was as playful as a puppy til the very end. :(
My 3 brothers and myself were raised with a Great Pyrenees named Rufus. He was a saint of a dog, showing infinite patience and tolerance toward us and our unruly friends. He dearly loved his little mixed-breed companion dog, Missy, as well as our cat, Blackie. What a magnificent animal friend he was!
i love the puppies, hate the music...videos with puppy and happy people sounds are so much better :)
