  • its only been 10 some years

  • MCAS El Toro was my 1st duty station (90-94 MWHS - 3, then I worked at the Staff NCO Academy). I figured out what "swinging at the wing" meant when I was with 1/2 at Camp Lejeune. lol! Laguna Beach, Baxters, Cokomo and the infamous Club Metro...lol

  • ITS STILL THERE GUYS WE CAN SAVE IT FROM BECOMING A PARK!!!! AND TEARING IT ALL DOWN CMON GUYS WE CAN SAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Interesting to see the place that I lived at from 1984 to 1985 and mostly was not happy at is now gone.

Amazing how you can hate a place but yet miss it so much.

MWSG 37 WES 37 Utilities Section.

  • Best duty station in the Wing !

    MABS 37 75-76

    MWSG 37 77-78

I loved you El toro !

  • My father was stationed there from 86-89, Search and Rescue. The times on base, the memories. I can remember riding on his motorcycle with him to base to just hand out while he was off-duty. I always wanted to go back to visit, I guess I will never get the chance now. Good by old friend!

  • RIP El Toro. MALS-11 PP 41L and test cell from 1990-1992.

  • Yes it hurts to see it go. Just another part of my life gone. I was attached to VMFP-3, the many fond memories I have. I would love to see Bks. 450 and a few other spots before it is gone. Will probably never get there.

  • That really hurts I was station there from 84-86 and 88-92 I had fond memories for the base I hated up until my EAS.

  • I was there from 88-92 with the DEATHRATTLERS great yesteryear moments

  • That sucks! I was at MAG-13 in 1980-83 and 1986-88. I miss the a-4s, a-6s, f-4s and rf4b and VMGR-352 c-130s. I was a cryo tech. making lox and lin.

My fondest memories in the Corps was while at El Toro.

  • good times

  • i station there from 88/92 vmfa-323 deathrattlers, S-1, westpac 90-91

  • Damn I miss El Toro, Miramar was never as much fun. There's just something about those evenings when the Santa Anna winds would blow the orange blossom smell through good ol' barracks 667. Those were the days.

  • ...yep that Orange smell specially in the mourning in P.T....i worked in the Mess Hall MWSS-374 fapp'ed over to H.H&S....i miss the Castle Barracks and the CokoMomo's nite club out in town..

  • I left there in 1986,was with vma 311 (iyaoyas). My dad was also stationed at el toro in 62? Hard to believe its no longer...

  • That was my final duty station back in 1985.

That really sucks to see it getting decommissioned; I remember watching the birds take off from in front of my hanger door towards Saddleback. I've got a-lot of good memories from that base.

A salute to El Toro, the VMA-214's old home...

    The Black Sheep continue on.

  • I left there in May of 99, good times there. What the hell was that guy filming this doing in the background??? Sending morse code??

  • Maybe it was Morse code and perhaps they hid something in the walls of the commissary and were conveying where it was located within the debris. Like all other bases, you never know what the hell is going on with all those commodities.

Didn't we just accidentally send some nuclear fuses to Taiwan or something like that?

The fuses were probably meant to go to some illegal buyer. When Uncle Sam buys a 1 cent bolt for $50.00 covering to pay for Black Projects... that leaves the door open to?

  • Huuhhhhmmm..... very sad to see. Even though I've never been stationed there (visited twice while on AD). Took a picture of one of the hangars with the wings (pilot and NFO) and United States Marine Corps mural painted on it. Glad I did. This was home to many.....

  • Boy I used to buy a lot of booze there!

  • sad
