having Just one high gain antennas is Usless for long range connectiion without a second high gain antenna on the other side you're trying to connecting to so basically because you have a powerfull high gain antenna does not mean you will be able to connect to wifis from miles away unless you have another high gain antennas on the other side so with just one high gain antenna it might pickup lots of wifis but connecting to most of them is impossible signal will be to weak!!!
ehhh i think ill spend the 20 bucks and buy a real antenna than mess with all this. I thought the pringles version was sposed to be simple and have materials i already have?
Everyone relax u are supposed to get a 5 foot copper wire with one end in to the connection and the other in the same power outlet your laptop is plugged in :z lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For reception purposes, you don't need any of the threaded materials or washers. I was on a boat in the Atlantic Ocean using a Pringle's can with a small square hole cut in the bottom to fit a USB connector through. On the inside of the can, I put a USB adapter in vertically, with the connector sticking down through the can. I hooked the USB cable to the adapter, the other end to my laptop and pointed the can until I got a signal. I was picking up a dozen signals 1/2 mile offshore.
So i just take this and stick it up my ass it i get a better wi fi connection? O wait, do i throw it a car and then get a good connection? How about sticking it in the oven? Will it work then? I guess what im getting at is you failed to mention what in the hell i need to hook it up with once its built. Sorry i had to flame someone, everyone who made these kinds of videos fails to mention what cable i need to put in my lap top
@newm123 use this "RP-TNC Plug to N-Female, Pigtail 2 ft 195-Series" and then connect to the wireless card. You need a wireless card with an antenna. Something like this: "Linksys Wireless-G PCI Card WMP54G Network adapter - PCI" then you screw it in and your done. I'm just guessing thats how this works, so don't quote me on anything, but from what I've seen, this is how its done.
@wrath90210 Yikes so it seems it bit more complicated then just the antenna :(
Well thanks for the reply, that's helpful info.
Sadly this video along with most others don't give you exact dimensions of the washers and such. 1 inch washers is only half the info i need. The diameter of the aluminum rod and washers isn't mention anywhere sadly. I think i may have to give up on this project :(
@wrath90210 Please answer. WIll this work: cgi.ebay.com/N-Female-jack-Panel-Mount-Chassis-PCB-Connector-Adapter-/390250186732?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5adcb947ec#ht_3158wt_1139
If so, how do I connect it to my wireless card? I have a detachable antenna with an RP-SMA connector.

1.2” (( 1.2 x 25mm = 30mm..?? )) 5 and 5/8" long.? Hey, what happened to metric mm? We are in Europe after all. Further, mixing metric terminology with imperial makes no sense to me what so ever. It should be either one or the other, preferably entirely metric!
Now I know what to use my aluminum Slurpee straw from 7-11 for. Can a USB connector be used or does it have to be something compatible with the wireless card? Gold conducts better then copper, is it worth looking for solid gold wire?
@maitrechebbie That might be where you're having trouble. Don't worry about comprehending faecal matter just yet, you can return to your coprophagia after making the pringles antenna. If you can't understand the english language in an english accent, you're going to have problems in general.
@kedalicious17 yep you can actually probably get it all in one isle the tubing you could just use aluminum spacers instead of having to cut a tube less than ten bucks i work at an Ace Hardware and i can even get the pringles there!

I have shit load of Pringles can in my kitchen at least13 empty cans! But Im not going to waste it on this fucking waste of spam rubbish nonsense! Im going to use them as piggy banks! There a more fucking productive thing than this bullshit waste of space video!
Can I use this a fucking CB radio antenna to pick-up good skip on the sidebands?
idiot this actually works , u obviously know nothing ppl have built these for at least 3 years they have always worked, yes i have one hooked up my router does at least 900 yards
I already have a Cantenna but now I can add a collector and make it even better. The Cantenna design is the only EASY DIY WiFi project that I've found that really works for boosting a signal.
Now make us one for internal antenna routers like the Netgear N.
Try rotating the completed antenna around the axis of the can, to maximize reception from, and transmission to, the Access Point. The concept here is to match the "polarization" of signal from Access Point. Polarization is the orientation, often "vertical" or "horizontal", of the electric and magnetic field vectors of the radio waves from and to the Access Point. In electromagnetic radiation, like radio or light, electric field is perpendicular to magnetic field, both perp to direction of travel
The 2.4 GHz WiFi band, which I believe this antenna is designed for, is centered on 2.437 GHz, with a spread of 0.036 GHz to either side.
To convert this design to use on the 802.11a WiFi band, which uses channels centered around 5.5 GHz, multiply all dimensions in this post by 2.437/5.5 (should work, haven't tried it though).
This Pringles can is about 8.0" long by 2.37" diameter.
wavelength = (speed of light)/(freq), or 123 mm for 2.4 GHz WiFi.
The connection wire is called "coaxial cable". This type of cable has an inner wire, around which is dielectric (non-conducting material like plastic or teflon), surrounded by cylindrical wire mesh. Your cable TV comes over coax. Make sure to get a coax cable which has Teflon dielectric, otherwise impossible to solder without melting dielectric. Also, very importantly, "characteristic impedance" of cable must match input impedance of wireless card (don't know if this is standardized).
The "pigtail" is NOT, as the name might imply, from animal sources, but rather just a stiff piece of bare wire, something one can solder, like copper (forget using aluminum). Diameter is not critical. Video says it should extend to halfway across inside of can, diameter of which is about 2.4 inches. This 1.2" is, by the way, one quarter wavelength for 2.4 GHz.
Easiest construction is to solder pigtail into connector before inserting connnector through hole in can, then screw nut over conn.
can you write the requirements pls? i cant understand slang english... hehe... great work... but please post the requirements... im having trouble of buying the right one... im going to connect it on my PCI Card...
Absolutely! Great idea! Cut the shield, and dielectric, off the end of the coax, so about 1.2" of center conductor extends into the can. BUT, make sure that the shield of the coax cable makes very good electrical contact with metal lining of pringles can. This might be difficult. Also, add some mechanical support to cable outside can so it stays perpendicular to surface of can, and doesn't detach. A glue gun, or a lot of epoxy cement, might do the trick.
if you have a WLAN card attached to your laptop via express card or PCMCIA which has a detachable antenna than just remove the antenna and attach the pigtail from the pringles can, if u have an internal like me you could possibly get a U.FL to RP-SMA adapter and then open ure laptop, connect the other end of the U.FL adapter to the internal card and then try to see if you could possibly cut a hole get the RP-SMA male connecter outside from within the laptop
