  • "I'm going to make a antenna out of just a pringles can"

"Okay so your going to need a pringles can and washers, and tops and other stuff" I thought he said JUST a pringles can?

  • why not just go buy a god damn antenna?

  • I'm watching this while eating Pringles lol Yum! :P

  • OMG this sound great with vicarious in the background

  • WiFi = Cancer.

  • having Just one high gain antennas is Usless for long range connectiion without a second high gain antenna on the other side you're trying to connecting to so basically because you have a powerfull high gain antenna does not mean you will be able to connect to wifis from miles away unless you have another high gain antennas on the other side so with just one high gain antenna it might pickup lots of wifis but connecting to most of them is impossible signal will be to weak!!!

  • ehhh i think ill spend the 20 bucks and buy a real antenna than mess with all this. I thought the pringles version was sposed to be simple and have materials i already have?

  • You should enter this in Avnet's Dog Days of Summer contest.

  • Do you keep your drawing and share to us so I can build based upon your drawing ?

  • Everyone relax u are supposed to get a 5 foot copper wire with one end in to the connection and the other in the same power outlet your laptop is plugged in :z lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Best reception from pizza

  • Wtf? Just plug oin a usb adapter or plug the router into the friggin card itself

  • if you have to buy all of those metal parts, you might as well just build the wifi antena out of a better base than a pringles can

  • @garrettchap1 I don't know. A lot of sites say there's no better substitute.

  • For reception purposes, you don't need any of the threaded materials or washers. I was on a boat in the Atlantic Ocean using a Pringle's can with a small square hole cut in the bottom to fit a USB connector through. On the inside of the can, I put a USB adapter in vertically, with the connector sticking down through the can. I hooked the USB cable to the adapter, the other end to my laptop and pointed the can until I got a signal. I was picking up a dozen signals 1/2 mile offshore.

  • just a pringles box my arse you had about 20 other bits on the table - utter crap!!!

Fucking hell now you have to solder!!!!!!!!!

  • just a pringles box my arse you had about 20 other bits on the table - utter crap!!!

  • pffft!

think i'll just go buy a wifi antenna

  • I not just a fucking Pringles can there a bunch of metal pieces bitch

  • Did anyone try this? What's the signal gain?

  • eso anda de verdad?

  • can this work with a laptop?

  • @JDTV1995 no.

  • dont wannaa misss 2 hourss of COD for diss

  • So i just take this and stick it up my ass it i get a better wi fi connection? O wait, do i throw it a car and then get a good connection? How about sticking it in the oven? Will it work then? I guess what im getting at is you failed to mention what in the hell i need to hook it up with once its built. Sorry i had to flame someone, everyone who made these kinds of videos fails to mention what cable i need to put in my lap top

  • @newm123 use this "RP-TNC Plug to N-Female, Pigtail 2 ft 195-Series" and then connect to the wireless card. You need a wireless card with an antenna. Something like this: "Linksys Wireless-G PCI Card WMP54G Network adapter - PCI" then you screw it in and your done. I'm just guessing thats how this works, so don't quote me on anything, but from what I've seen, this is how its done.

  • @wrath90210 Yikes so it seems it bit more complicated then just the antenna :(

Well thanks for the reply, that's helpful info.

Sadly this video along with most others don't give you exact dimensions of the washers and such. 1 inch washers is only half the info i need. The diameter of the aluminum rod and washers isn't mention anywhere sadly. I think i may have to give up on this project :(

Thanks wrath though, much appreciated ^.^

  • today show.

  • that was boring I didint real watch it i watched the first 10 seconds then went to the end

  • I like it but ...how do I connect my laptop? It has no external wifi card...

  • Nicely done - well explained. Tks for not wasting my time and instead really providing detailed material sufficient to actually construct a working antenna. Steve

  • JUST a pringles can?

  • 96

  • hbyh

  • este vídeo es el mas inutir, al estar en ingles por lo menos debiste poner subtitulo

  • Nice tutorial but,

if i have a laptop, where do a have to plug it??

  • 1.2” (( 1.2 x 25mm = 30mm..?? )) 5 and 5/8" long.? Hey, what happened to metric mm? We are in Europe after all. Further, mixing metric terminology with imperial makes no sense to me what so ever. It should be either one or the other, preferably entirely metric!

  • @sonicstep

    You bloody people, its easy.

  • is the connector sticking out of the can a standard N-type?

  • Now I know what to use my aluminum Slurpee straw from 7-11 for. Can a USB connector be used or does it have to be something compatible with the wireless card? Gold conducts better then copper, is it worth looking for solid gold wire?

  • can you put all the materials we need but in

    universal milimiters

  • @josersimoes 152.4 mm Aluminum tube

    25.4 mm x5 washers

    38.1 mm solid copper wire

Cut tube into about 4 equal 30.48 mm pieces

  • Hmmmmm Lets Not use BBQ flavor

  • @fingernerv or you will only pick up laptops in Texas :D

  • where exactly would i buy copper etc i have no idea

  • hey

can u tell me all the materials u need so ican do this thanks

  • Hey guys , can i use copper tube ?

  • With all of the supplies and tools you need to build this, you could just go out and buy a badass wireless antenna..

  • @maitrechebbie That might be where you're having trouble. Don't worry about comprehending faecal matter just yet, you can return to your coprophagia after making the pringles antenna. If you can't understand the english language in an english accent, you're going to have problems in general.

  • @maitrechebbie : British accent is the best! I love it.

  • @maitrechebbie Don't understand what you talk every day eh? lol

  • we are using this techniqure to connect 2 xbox 360's on easter across 300 yards, i will post a video to show how it works tomorrow evening or so!

  • dajcie to po Polsku

  • after youve made this thing, how then do you go about hooking it up to the wireless card inside my macbook? Thanks!

  • Can I get all of this shit from a hardware store?

  • @kedalicious17 yep you can actually probably get it all in one isle the tubing you could just use aluminum spacers instead of having to cut a tube less than ten bucks i work at an Ace Hardware and i can even get the pringles there!

  • lol yall makin me feel bad, at first i didnt understand wat he was doing 0_o

  • You basically made a Yagi Antenna.

  • Woah Woah Woah... did he say SIMPLE?? xD

  • does this make a signal stronger?

  • Thanks james! this worked great!

  • a length of what thread with nylon nuts???? please respond

  • A what end connector? and what kind of connector is it????

  • This is real everybody! Need to make it simpler.... Pleez!

  • he say easy to do more like a pai in the ass i have made my own wifi booster and i used a old pices of card and paper and tinfoil and a bit off tape and it wotks maby it doesnt look as flash as his but for all that shit ya need for his so ot worth the time

  • so what kind of range in distance can this do?

  • @DundeeDude

it depends this maybe about 1300 yards these actually work a bunk of guys got it to work up to 2 miles once

  • @EmpireLS56KW

idiot this actually works , u obviously know nothing ppl have built these for at least 3 years they have always worked, yes i have one hooked up my router does at least 900 yards

  • lo abras echo mal majete a mi me va de perla

  • ya lo probe.. si funciona pero el detalle es que es muy inestable la señal :S

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

  • it really works!!!

ive been plugging it into my arse and talking to aliens for weeks now!!

its all thanks to mr pringles and you idat304!

  • University of Plymouth - is that near Chrysler College?

  • Brilliant! Thanks a bunch!

I already have a Cantenna but now I can add a collector and make it even better. The Cantenna design is the only EASY DIY WiFi project that I've found that really works for boosting a signal.

Now make us one for internal antenna routers like the Netgear N.

  • This Is GOLD!!!

  • do other flavors get stronger signals?

  • lol

  • made my day! :D

  • @tazztone stick with "Original" for better results...

  • nice video quality how did you do this .....make vid please

  • i use a 3 1/2 in pringles can works great!!!

  • Try rotating the completed antenna around the axis of the can, to maximize reception from, and transmission to, the Access Point. The concept here is to match the "polarization" of signal from Access Point. Polarization is the orientation, often "vertical" or "horizontal", of the electric and magnetic field vectors of the radio waves from and to the Access Point. In electromagnetic radiation, like radio or light, electric field is perpendicular to magnetic field, both perp to direction of travel

  • Could you a standard pringles can, as thats a party size one? and do you think it matters if you use zinc nylon lock nuts?

  • wath is the frecuence of work??

  • The 2.4 GHz WiFi band, which I believe this antenna is designed for, is centered on 2.437 GHz, with a spread of 0.036 GHz to either side.

To convert this design to use on the 802.11a WiFi band, which uses channels centered around 5.5 GHz, multiply all dimensions in this post by 2.437/5.5 (should work, haven't tried it though).

This Pringles can is about 8.0" long by 2.37" diameter.

wavelength = (speed of light)/(freq), or 123 mm for 2.4 GHz WiFi.

    solder pigtail first!

  • thanks ;)

  • Pringles... Om nom nom nommy!

  • can someone explain to me what the "Pigtail" is?

  • the wire that goes from your network card

    to the rf coax connector

  • The connection wire is called "coaxial cable". This type of cable has an inner wire, around which is dielectric (non-conducting material like plastic or teflon), surrounded by cylindrical wire mesh. Your cable TV comes over coax. Make sure to get a coax cable which has Teflon dielectric, otherwise impossible to solder without melting dielectric. Also, very importantly, "characteristic impedance" of cable must match input impedance of wireless card (don't know if this is standardized).

  • The "pigtail" is NOT, as the name might imply, from animal sources, but rather just a stiff piece of bare wire, something one can solder, like copper (forget using aluminum). Diameter is not critical. Video says it should extend to halfway across inside of can, diameter of which is about 2.4 inches. This 1.2" is, by the way, one quarter wavelength for 2.4 GHz.

Easiest construction is to solder pigtail into connector before inserting connnector through hole in can, then screw nut over conn.

  • does this work?

  • can you write the requirements pls? i cant understand slang english... hehe... great work... but please post the requirements... im having trouble of buying the right one... im going to connect it on my PCI Card...

  • Alguien puede traducir este video y pasarlo al ESPAÑOL , aver si alguien pasa el link de la traduccion, gracias

  • i have to make one of these for wireless class, there more complicated than i thourght and its due 2moro

  • great video and great antenna. can you write down the exact name of the pieces you need to create it, please? thanks man!

  • Could you please right down the things that you are using?, because I cant hear them clearly

  • im hungry for pringles now :)

  • Thanks, I'm off to Canary Wharf and then later Wall Street - I'm gonna get rich!

  • good job

  • THIS ANTENNA LOOKS REALLY NICE

  • instead of using va conncto for the cable, could't you just strip th cable and stick the coppe of the cable t the pringles can? Pleae reply.

  • Absolutely! Great idea! Cut the shield, and dielectric, off the end of the coax, so about 1.2" of center conductor extends into the can. BUT, make sure that the shield of the coax cable makes very good electrical contact with metal lining of pringles can. This might be difficult. Also, add some mechanical support to cable outside can so it stays perpendicular to surface of can, and doesn't detach. A glue gun, or a lot of epoxy cement, might do the trick.

  • a little more complicated please

  • thank you man.

  • mmmm Pringles!... Sour cream & onion please!

  • this video is great

  • i swear soon as u came up i though HES a crim

  • cool plymoth mi

    i live in mi

  • its not plymouth MI its plymouth in england

  • you make a fellow michigander cry with that ignorant statement

  • only thing i dislike about america, they nick all the names for cities, and think its the orignal, otheriwse an amazing country.

  • this is too much work!

just search for other videos where u can just stick ur wifi usb dongle in the side of the pringles can and get some signal boost!

  • no way he hacks into ppls wireless networks for bank accounts to get crack money.....just no way

  • where am i supposed to connect the other end of the cable????

  • what is that thing??

  • how do we connect it with laptop dude????

  • if you have a WLAN card attached to your laptop via express card or PCMCIA which has a detachable antenna than just remove the antenna and attach the pigtail from the pringles can, if u have an internal like me you could possibly get a U.FL to RP-SMA adapter and then open ure laptop, connect the other end of the U.FL adapter to the internal card and then try to see if you could possibly cut a hole get the RP-SMA male connecter outside from within the laptop

  • could you write down the stuff you use cause i can t hear them cleary
