If you love Kerouac like myself and Russell, check out my new book Road Trippn' (by Sean McLaughlin), a tribute to Jack; youth; Freedom; Love; God; sex, drugs, rock'n'roll and America set across the country and culminating in the streets of NYC, a month prior to the attacks of 9/11. Check it out at Amazon.com and support another working class artist from one of America's other former industrial glory towns - Cleveland this carnation around instead of Lowell.
There are areas in North America that are so remote that the police will actually give tourists a gun to carry until you reach "civilisation" again.Simply because if there is something wrong the cops will not be able to reach you.
@bellerina88 Really? does Europe have a grand canyon at one end, deep forests at the other, massive deserts in the southwest, and vast prairies in the middle? Please think before you speak.
not to mention temperate rainforests in the northwest, frozen glaciers in alaska, the bayou, come to think of it we've got literally every climate in the world here
i love that at the end it says all cheerfully "you can hear more from russell brand every saturday night on bbc radio 2 at 8" and im thinking haha no you cannot because hes been sacked!! ha!
This further cements my goal to travel wherever life takes me and take short-time jobs in interesting places after college, before my life gets tied down.
@notthatbasic hey,i know this comment is around a year old but good for you man..i also really aspire to live that life style but feel under pressure by society to live my life like "normal" people and settle down to a 9-5 job, family etc but i find it suppressive and have a constant urge to explore.all the best with your travels mate
"If u aren't governed by fear u can live truthfully & u can find a kind of beauty, but if ur inhibited & fearful u will live a prescriptive existance. Once u get beyond the headonistic 1st impulse of that philosophy u find that u need to focus on something wider, more perminent & beautiful & valuable. I want to do something worth while."
For the last four days I have been looking up video clips and performances of Russell B. I just finished this "On the Road" production and I must say it was the best thing he has done so far of all the things I have seen.
you are a shit cunt russel brand. This is a video of you driving round talking giberish terrible dont even speak about jack keroac or anything you are his and in going out not qualuded history GET A PROPER JOB RUSSEL BRAND
yer thats why u just watched all this and have favorited one of his interviews? lol... hes a comedian by the way he has the best job a comedian could have or do u just want him to do something where hes not showing his creativaty so you dont feel so jelous and sorry for yourself?
some of the stuff he says is confusing, anyone want to explain in laymans terms? the bit at the start where he says life starts here and ends here blah blah. i understand that he is against capitalism and wants everyone in the world to be united and one, rather then seperated and alone
Kerouac drank himself to death at 47, in despair at what he thought was the misinterpretation of the Beat ethos by those who followed him. All you college students who idolise this crap take note. Its one thing to be a multi millionaire TV comedian doing route 66 off the back of the UK TV license payer and quite another to survive in a capitalist society as a wage slave which is what we all are.
It's one thing to take the often shallow, but well deserved, escapism of the "wage slave" and try to ruin it by pompously asserting that that which you (or Kerouac) took from this journey, is all that can be true and pure.
It's another to accept that which satisfies, enlightens and cheers the average "wage slave" but respectfully try to open their mind to other avenues of spirituality and conscious being.
@mrchuffy doesnt mean you carnt break the mould and also go on a similar search (spiritually),you might feel trapped in that suppressive society but doesnt mean others have to follow suit.
thank you thank you thank you xMissFablex. i just watched all 7 installments in one sitting and looooved it. just finished reading my booky wook. russell brand would have to be one of the most honest observant funny human beings ever!! we dont get much of him here in aust. well nothin really except the hosting gig of the recent pathetic mtv awards. anyhow thanks again for this fantastic doco. russell brand for pm.xxxx
Live life damn it!! DO IT. This is the only chance you will get, don't think about your age or money, or what people will think, what an awful way to live. if you have'nt read that book your missing so much!!
I didnt think i would be able to peel my poor eyes away, and the words are still ringing in my ears. I, with a friend, was planning a roadtrip. just dropping everything and going, deal with all that nonsense when we get back! As i was watching this i phoned my mate(it's 3 in the mornin') and told her to watch it, and the nits we are we decided to do it, in two days we will be gone, now i'd say thats living in the moment. "The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules."
Just wanted to say thanks for the upload and all. Quality programming! The American West is so beautiful, especially when it's edited into strings of 45 sec. panoramas. I thought that drab little bridge outside of Vallejo on the 80 was the Golden Gate the first time I went to SF too. And I had a friend there to smirk about it. What did Matt say "Abe Shit Bridge" or something. Ha. Anyway thanks for sharing.
Thanks a lot for uploading these vids, i missed it on TV but it was a very enlightning and inspiring programme...who's up for a cross-country america road trip? :D
that was amazing. in all of russell brand's work, i love how its so evident that he's learnt so much from his experiences, and not going back down a path of destruction.. and how he so freely expresses his beliefs; he's right, living everyday without fear or inhibition is the key to truly living your life. hope his work reaches out to people too blinded by their monotonous consumer driven lives or too drugged up to see whats important.
Thanks for the uploads Miss Fable. Russ is set to become a legend and like Karouac he knows the score. No pun intended Russ, respect all the way for you. Just get rid of the white pants though eh? Matt's right as usual - they do look a bit like baby pants, lol
I think fear is a precursor of beauty, not to say its always the case. Truth be told all is paradox but I'm thankful someone like Russell is apart of mainstream media and for the main part shares the same views. I've always known the spiritual utopia that russell dreams of is just around the corner, one hell of a corner, but almost there. Thanks Missy!!!!!
i concur whole-heartedly ephemeralshine! not many mainstream people are thoughtful - and not many could say such inspiring things without being boring. He's one of the true beautiful people.
