Annoyed at how many people whine about tail docking. Its a normal procedure that doesn't hurt the dog. Its in the nature since it was created. I do believe its cruel, but nothing to bad to have a fit over. Its not like your cutting off the dogs leg.
You make an interesting point. The weims tail is thin, like that of a vizsla, and looks fragile. I do own a rescued lab retriever, which was brought to me at 6 months old with her tail already broken in two places, first in one direction and then in the other. She has a sturdy retriever tail, but it was nonetheless badly fractured. And, when I was a child, our beautiful family collie had her tail fractured and torn completely off, as she tried to "herd" more than she could handle.
Your puppies are precious, anyway. What I saw was over 50 years ago, when tails were docked much shorter than today - cut almost completely off. I'm happy to hear that the method has apparently changed, along with the length.
Cute except for tails docked. In some countries it's illegal to mutilate puppies in this way. I have seen the tail cutting done. Very cruel. Tail docking is NOT a requirement for show dogs, and in some kennel clubs is a disqualification. There is no reason to mutilate these puppies. There are many photos and videos on the internet showing natural Weimaraners, and they are beautiful to see. I will never again own a mutilated Weimaraner.
@BrazosRiverOne correct, docked tail are not required for show dogs although it's rare for a Weim with a tail to be shown in the US unless they were imported from another country. These are field dogs therefore their tails are docked.
As for mutilation, I have also witnessed the docking of the tails and it takes all but 10 seconds to do, and only causes a tiny yelp about equivelent to a prick of a shot, then they go back to sleep. It's less tramatic that a circumsision on a child.
@BrazosRiverOne the docking of there tails actually benifits the dogs. it is not just for looks. If you have ever seen a weims tail they are all bone no meat. which could lead to a lot of breaks in the feild
@BrazosRiverOne no but the are so athletic that while running in the woods like mine does very often for hours on end the may hit the tail on a tree and BREAK it. they feel the docking either so it isn't cruel
Since their creation, the have had their tails docked. Their tails can cause injury in the field or around the house. The longer dock allows to still see them pointing in high brush.

Blue is a disqualifier for showing the dogs but is by no means a bad thing. The gray is actually the recessive trait.

@BoobyBear77 Thank you for replying, it seems YouTube won't let me comment on my own posts half the time.

In the description it says that "the blue coat color is a disqualifying fault" what does that mean.
capodencia85 2 years ago
@capodencia85 weims can be 4 colors but only the grey ones can be show dogs, blue, brown, abd black ones aren't considered the original breed
vthammerman 1 year ago
@vthammerman Blue is considered pure bred, however brown and black are not.

@capodencia85 it means they cannot compete in the conformation. They can, however compete in any other AKC event.
