I've been to very few live concerts in my life. One of them was Patti Labelle in 1995 and I will never forget it or her. I seem to recall at one time she actually put the microphone down and sang straight out. Someone out in the audience said "it's ok, Patti, we know you're for real"....and that's just it....she's for real

I love both versions. The Emotions Harmonized very well, but this version seems full and well rounded. I could really squeeze and hold my baby tight on this version even though the song is about lonely people. Go Patti!!

I agree with you. I like Patti too but this is the Emotions song. When Wanda, Janet and Sheila says "What do they do, what do they do? at the end. You believe them!!! It's as if they are speaking from experience.. Ok, I just got it. Patti said "she's talking about the lonely people. She said "they wish". The Emotions seem to be talking about themselves as they can relate, as in "US". Those of us who are lonely on Christmas. Not "them" as in other people. (If that make sense) LOL.
