  • I wonder if it also had to do with all the objects in the room that are two circles joined together, like the table they're sitting at, the reel at 0:32, the two RED stools at 0:37, the thing at the top at 2:17, the thing in the window at 6:25, or the red thing on the table at 6:28. There are random red circles placed all over the room

  • so much bullshit.....

  • 1:30 grabs Simon's hand and says "Let me explain to you how I BIKE ifts or presents for people and this is the best way to HANDLE BAR none the problem of what to SADDLE for when you're going to buy gifts for somebody..."

1:44 "rather than reCYCLE the same sort of TWO-TYRED bottles of wine..."

1:52 "fall in love with it BIKE creating a strong desire... "

    1:58 "pumped-up"

    2:02 "they BMX citement"

2:23 "like a really nice car like a BM or an Xbox"

  • fucked up! I was thinking bike too

  • 1.53 Bike creating a strong feeling of desire for that object :)

    check it out.

  • That was awesome.

  • In the end, people like being tricked. I don't know why, but people like tricks if its fun.

  • This guy is a genius! :D Love it!

  • That is sooo freaky...

  • God. Is that how marketing works? We are fucked

  • I'm happy he's happy. NLP or not. :)

  • omfg i didnt even notice the first time he was saying bar none...

  • Genius. NLP can also be used excellently to lead an audience when public speaking

  • Simon's amazement at the envelope switch fools the viewer into thinking he was also amazed at Derren supposedly predicting he wanted a bike. But he wasn't. He's just happy/amazed to be given "THE BMX" he previously told Derren he wanted, and also surprised Derren chose a red one (though his favourite colour was also likely discussed 7 days ago). Simon isn't in on the trick, he isn't a stooge but it's not suggestion like Derren says.

  • Comment removed

  • Next Simon *did* write "BMX bike" on the paper on the envelope during their initial planning meeting, but it was tampered with on the same day. The fact that is was 7 days ago means Simon has forgotten about when or how it was switched, but obviously it was (pretty easy there are numerous ways - also easy to fake handwriting). His reaction shows he is amazed by this trick.

  • Ok first listen closely to the big reveal - Derren say "What's your dream present", Simon Pegg replies "THE BMX bike". Strange right? Surely he should have said "A BMX bike"? Derren tries to cover by repeating "A BMX bike?" but too late. During the inital planning of the trick off-camera, Derren and Simon discussed a number of *different* ideal presents, out of the list Simon chooses "THE BMX bike". Simon's reaction to the opening of the gift is just happiness that he got a bike..simple as that.

  • NLP and suggestion is all BS! This trick is done the same as most mentalist tricks - pre-work (i.e. they talked before the cameras started rolling) and dual reality (we the audience are seeing a different trick to the one Simon Pegg is seeing)

  • @attentionaddicts you are right but its a really good presentation :-)

  • If I had a quarter for every pixel in this video, i would have $1.00

  • @Tannerb9000 really? I count 42 cents.

  • If Saito hired Derren in Inception, the movie would have been over in 7 minutes.

  • The revenge of 240p.

  • personally, i ended up wishing for an x-box :)

  • if someone kept leaning over and tapping me on the shoulder I'd punch the cunt in the face.

  • WTF

  • they say the time backwards?? 10+1?

  • @djensoer 10 past 1. Everyone I know would say that, didn't realise it was strange :s

  • @waori where u from?

  • @djensoer New Zealand

  • @waori ohh here in USA that would backwards lol

  • @waori we say that in the US too, djensoer doesn't know what he's talking about. in California we say ten past 1, fifteen past 3, etc.

  • @joji64theninja lol I thought so, I'm sure I would have noticed on TV or movies otherwise.

  • It's been said many times before, but its likely that the NLP explanation of this video is misdirection. Just another case of stage magic, I'm afraid.

  • @ImPotatoes Remember, he is an illusionist. You shouldn't believe EVERYthing he tells you.

  • Find out how to improve your life with this techniques:

    videoteaching.blogspot

  • reCYLE, "too tired" (two-tired), "by creating" (bike), "beam excitement" (BMX)....all of it is subliminal messaging delivered by taps on the shoulder, calling subconscious attention to the phrase being uttered at that precise moment. Basically...holy FUCK this guy is good! O_O

  • @Vampireskiss33 O.o how did you know all of that?

  • @MCDEVVOMAN Because I'm huge on psychology. Our subconscious observes a lot more than our conscious, but since we don't consciously filter it, it stores it away like a subliminal message. In the case of the shoulder taps, he was subtly making a physical connection between his phrases and the emotion he was referring to, i.e. "the perfect gift". He narrowed it down with key words slipped into his dialogue.

  • this would no way work on me

  • @Shift4chizzle I would have to agree with that. He made a woman see yellow as red, and I immediately exclaimed, "HOW WEAK!!!"

  • It's a bike, right? He said recycle and too tired already.

  • Note how, in the explanation to the man, he offers two examples of what people might ask for, he says "BM-- XBOX", as if he was going to say "BMW" or something like that, but interrupts himself to say XBOX instead.

  • If I had a dollar for every pixel in this video, I'd have one dollar.

  • Derren Brown = legend. Fantastic stuff.

  • IF i had a dollar for every pixel in this video, i would have 20 bucks

  • bulshit

    waste of time

  • Good thing he didn't convince Simon that he wanted to receive buttsex for his birthday!

  • what the fuck did i just watch

  • anchor and handshake technique!

  • Bad quality but it was uploaded in 2006, I guess. Then I'm much more understanding. Thanks.

  • "These aren't the droids you're looking for."

  • if this video had better quality, it would have 0 dislikes.

  • He got me, I was totally thinking a bike too.

  • which pixel is darren brown?

  • @Laurenz1988 LMAO

  • @Laurenz1988 The one who can fool you in making you belive you want a pile of shit for your birthday.

  • @Laurenz1988 the 1 on the right

  • Hhaahaaahahhah SCARY STUFF!!!!!!!

  • Not as good as the stuff in the Mindreading Exposed ebook

  • The music at the beginning is "Different Time" by Victor Malloy

  • Here's how he does this: when he shakes hand at 1:28, he stops in the middle, putting the victim into some sort of reaction that allows Derren to basically hypnotize him. Next, at 1:33 he says "handle" (handle of a bike). Next, he obviously says the word "bike" instead of "by" at 1:53. Then at 2:01, Derren says "beam" (sounds like bm) at 2:23 you can clearly hear him say bmx. There may be a few other things, but you get the point. ;D

  • @KendeII every time he does one of those things he touches his arm

  • Comment removed

  • i want his skills

  • @immaaufdiefresserauf Study and practice, practice, practice. That's what he did.

  • 'he's gunna have me in a pickle jar by two' lol, this is pretty amazing and its cool someone as intelligent/aware as Simon can get influenced in such a way.

  • Comment removed

  • Not really. All of Derren Brown'd touching was very distracting to me. I knew he was dropping him into the most comfortable state possible and know what that entails.

  • Did anyone else find themselves wanting a bike?

  • This is retarded.. he said what he wanted FIRST, and then it was what he expected..

If he got something and THEN Derren Brown convinced him that that's what he always wanted, that's be something..

    what a fucking retarded video.

  • @winnerbaby44 There's obviously something that you didn't understand in this video. Assuming that everything in this video is legit and Simon Pegg isn't a stooge, this is pretty amazing subconscious persuasion.

  • I got the subliminal language as Derren revealed what he was actually saying. But notice the props in the room. Red is everywhere, signifying the correct color. Also, the reel to reel directly in Pegg's line of sight behind Derren. And the painting of swirls. Both subliminally representing wheels. So Derren is using both visual and subliminal suggestion through covert conversation. Brilliant stuff and perfectly executed for the end result. Red BMX bike.

  • @user6008 captain obvious, is that you?

  • If life was a board game, Derren would be the biggest cheater of all time

  • two great atheist minds together

  • Obviously fake

  • @Gooeychickenman obviuosly an ignorant person wrote this comment

  • @hopeless990 Right, I'm ignorant. While you believe that someone can completely forget something he wrote down. Idiot.

  • Teach me your ways!!!!!

  • whats the music ?? ?pleasee

  • why do so many people think NLP is pathetic? Don't they understand how easy it is to control/influence other people? Why do some people think NLP is a cult like Scientology? Is it because they are ignorant? Or are the hypotherapists that buy into these techniques ignorant? What if two people study NLP in the same great detail and get certified but one of them thinks that much of it is lame? I know of people who believe that NLP is not only pseudo-science but it requires stupidity to buy it

  • Love it.

  • i caught how he said a new car a bm then stopped before saying the w to go to an xbox lol amazing

  • holy... mindfuck.

  • Would suck being his kids at Christmas.

  • @HopeIwin94 Would it?

  • I got the subliminal language as Derren revealed what he was actually saying. But notice the props in the room. Red is everywhere, signifying the correct color. Also, the reel to reel directly in Pegg's line of sight behind Derren. And the painting of swirls. Both subliminally representing wheels. So Derren is using both visual and subliminal suggestion through covert conversation. Brilliant stuff and perfectly executed for the end result. Red BMX bike.

  • How can i study this?

  • I've watched a few vids about Derren's fun tricks and heard 'bike gifts' (buy gifts), 'recycle' 'two tyres' (two types). 'bike creating' (by creating), 'pumped'...

I'm at 2:00 its gonna be a bike.

Only problem - do I know that from listening to the clues, or the pic of the red bike that I quickly saw when I clicked on the link ;-)

  • BULLSHIT

  • "mind tricks work only on the weak minded"

    obi wan kenobi

  • What annoys me about Derren Brown is that for all his work he does to debunk bullshit mysticism, he comes out with his own version of bullshit with a magic trick under the guise of "nlp".

  • @randmnumber The difference is he doesn't pretend its magic, and its a very important difference.

  • @JoesephKatana mysticism,pseudiscience.. whats the difference?

  • @randmnumber Known psychological mechanisms and mysticism/pseudoscience are quite different. If anything is complicated enough it looks like magic to the layman. Whats more, he uses these mechanisms to promote skepticism by demonstrating just how easy it is to delude someone. That sounds like anti mysticism and anti pseudoscience to me.

  • 240p, my old friend.... :/

  • Simon Pegg!

    Derren Brown's cool too.

  • Derren Brown does not use NLP. NLP is pseudoscience. Derren Brown uses his own mixture of hypnosis, misdirection, suggestion, and showmanship. NLP does incorporate some useful techniques, but the majority of it is a vast oversimplification that tries to take something which is very dynamic and make it into a static science.

  • @TheHumbleProtector With all due respect, Derren Brown uses NLP. In this Video he presented it in a very professional manner. NLP is a branch of hypnosis which suggests and misdirects and can only take in effect within hours. Most probably, the bday person will forget the BMX bike overnight. :) Derren Brown is just one hell of a Psychologic person. in an INSANE Level. :))

  • I love what NLP is capable of doing, but let's try this one again without a professional actor picking up on cues. It might be slightly more believable.

  • I wonder if he ever got a leather jacket.

  • You want a diamond ring? Nope, you're getting a sandwich maker.

  • Derren Brown would be alot better than Leonardo Dicaprio in Inception. Would have ended the film at the first dream-level!

  • @jakup770 he is a real-life architect

  • 1:49 "and then i make that person fall in love with it by-ike-creating"

  • @lynchy4664 also he says "x-treme" while touching him

  • @lynchy4664 "bm--- xbox"

  • Is he a fucking wizard?

  • if this shit worked in a blind, randomized trial with a large sample size, i'd be a very surprised man.

  • fake and gay

  • @AUSM92 yes, with vaseline smeared on the lens.

  • if he say i want a BMW

  • Why isn't he in the USA?!!!!!!!

  • the only reason i dont buy it is because when they open up the paper and derren brown looks at it and instantly sais "thats your handwriting" , how does he know thats simon's handwriting or is he just guessing or did he somehow study simon's handwriting beforehand? i dunno that seemed fishy to me.

  • @DemolishedDuB Maybe because he knew that he hadn't tampered with the paper - and the man said he had written it down on the piece of paper, Derren deducted it was his handwriting.

  • it doesnt explain why its red

  • I don't get it, what pixel is Derren Brown?

  • Derren Brown and his Jedi mind fuck, screwing with Simon Peggs head!

  • If anyone is SERIOUS about wanting to learn the techniques derren uses in this clip and his other shows, send me a PM and I will explain more about hypnosis, nlp technique etc..

  • here's the trick watch 2:24 - 2:26 over and over try to guess how he "implanted" the memory... plus the box is the size of a bike... lol mysticism

  • @ChristopheMinnik bm or Xbox also touched his arm while saying this. got BMX bike not sure how he got the color right.

  • @inspirediam

He got the color by the room decour. If you notice its all red, since the victim is already been put in a succeptible state the color of the room just makes him think red

  • Was this filmed with a calculator??

  • Anyone else found themselves wanting a bike? I didn't...

  • I would have asked for a hooker

  • I would like to be the subject of Derren Brown and see how this works! Fascinating really! Hey Derren I want a million dollars, a horse farm in Colorado, a wonderful, fairly attractive woman with at least some of my worldviews to share, and a Land Rover with everything you could imagine for all-terrain and off roading capabilities! Make me want something else, something mundane and useless! LOL! I have no doubt in can work! Just like to experience it for myself!

  • @conshuscriterion I feel ya, i believe it can work, but that belief is somewhat small and neutral though, for me that is, it's like maybe on lets say a 90%and that 90 probably doesn't even tie to the big claims this supposedly can do, in order for me to get that 100% i really need to experience it myself. :) :P

  • Hahaha, funny how people think bs right away, what you need science to tell you what's real, i bet you don't even know that even scientist are studying this stuff, hahaha, lol. I don't know 100% whether it's real or not, but I'm not going to put a judging statement especially without backup.

  • @EBE246 Idiot.

  • @UerMom Thankyou, I care?, :) :P

  • Comment removed

  • @UerMom That's why you got a bunch of lovely negative ass comments on your tits hoe, you're blocked, i don't need to hear from you anymore, you're not worth my shit, my time and my spit, good bye, i wish you all the best.

  • For some reason this stuff does not work on me, well i guess I would make a good storm trooper!

  • BS.

  • You can download 5 Derren Brown eBooks from filesmy(dot)com/12E4C3

They are about mind reading tricks, mentalism and etc.

(to download you'll have to complete a survey)

  • I'm so happy to say I spotted quite a bit of what you did to make this happen, including a variation on Erickson's famous handshake. Brilliant, love YOU -- don't let the power you've found corrupt you, bright soul.

  • all of these things are staged..

  • @hamishorr why would an already famous and rich actor stage something? whats the point hes already rich he wouldn't do it for the money because obviously for a tv show they wouldn't pay him more than like 5 grand.

  • "You dont want to sell me any deathsticks."

  • @pwnurslf I gonna go home and rethink my life.

  • would sociology have something to do with his choice of BMX Bike? I would assume that only english, american, or men with nationalities that enjoy BMX biking are the only ones who would answer like this. What about men who don't know about BMX, and lets say you tried this on them?

  • mind the taperecorder in the background spinning like a bike

  • Easy, they're jedi mind tricks. problem solved

  • 1:53

"BIKE creating a strong feeling of desire for that object"

  • gah, the opening song, what is that?

it's supposedly by Brian Eno, but he has quite alot of albums.

  • @GrayEyedWolf yea it is brian eno

  • @westjapartyside it's victor malloy - different time, actually.

  • @GrayEyedWolf i was taking the piss fool, lol

  • I believe this only works with languages that don't require a lot of "correct" pronunciation (like english).

  • Comment removed

  • Embedded commands, anchoring, inductions, subliminal suggestion, love it all

  • around 1:50 he says bike by merging by and creating

  • JEDI MINDE TRICKS

  • 'this is the best way to HANDLE BAR none'

  • @gamz4tlol

    indeed

I see what he did thar.

  • Yes , some NLP methods are functional sometime with some people for some periods .

But not because the reasons they gave and the new-speak they invented.

The founders themselves acknowledge that they don't know exactly how these works but are pleased of copying some successful models.

That means exactly the knowledge that dark age doctors had when they bleed every patient with fever. They were "copying a success model".

They killed many patients - there is no easy way to science.

  • The handshake has everything to do with power and with our instinctual responses from cerebellum.

Open up a physiology book. The cortex doesn't loose any cognitive function by changing a pattern in behaviour but to the contrary all the functions are more alert.

The cortex "doesn't get overwhelmed by information" but instantly analyse what to keep attention to and what to ignore- and ignores all that is unfamiliar with.

I don't have the space here to explain all the errors in NLP.

  • This is BOSS, even in 240p.

  • About the handshake.

It is a power move to gain control.

He takes the hand that should be a gesture of trust and pin it down to the table with his hands above.Simon Pegg is placed in a submissive position.

Why he doesn't react? Because the gesture wasn't done with violence.

He is touching Simon Pegg at every 3 second to assert his domination and to throw the actor back in the child state of mind.

As social animals only higher rank can touch lower ranks and never the other way around.

  • @magdalenaferu Actually, the hand shake has nothing to do with power... He BREAKS the handshake which is a normal routine thing that EVERYONE Knows, and Derren breaks that routine by taking his hand halfway through and then immediately starts SPEWING out all this information, so he's overloading Simon's mind with all these words, and they're all SUBLIMINAL, like a BM or an X box....

AND AT THE END, SIMON REALLY WANTED A LEATHER JACKET, not a BMX bike. So Derren convinced him he wanted it.

  • Furthermore, LOOK AT THE ROOM THEY'RE IN, it's nothing but CIRCLES and the color RED, some of the circles are in such a way that they mimic a bike, like the tables and chairs. And there's the reel to reel that's moving which looks like bike wheels turning.

Derren also uses the exact SAME hand gesture that Simon uses when he describes that "feeling of positivity".

But there's also probably so much more going on here, even behind the scenes when they talked on the phone earlier.

  • He knew before the meeting that Simon Pegg wanted a BMX bike when he was a child.Little research.

He knew that because of the age Simon Pegg will choose something else.

He just had to convince the actor to want the bike that he always wanted anyway.

1.Set up the room with abstract bikes.

2.Took control with his posture and tone of voice.

3.Persuade with a speech that he can influence people.

    4.Made some linguistic associations.

he didn't made an old woman from Libya to want a bike.

  • simon pegg's a great actor. this is no exception.

  • @rmp251 If you don't believe in the shit that Derren Brown does, then GTFO!

He is the shit, I've seen all his live shows and I still don't know how he pulls off these elaborate pranks on the ENTIRE crowd which were picked completely at random using things thrown out in the crowd.

I still think one of my favorites though is "The Heist" which you should watch if you haven't seen it. It shows how dangerous this could be in the wrong hands, and John Lennon may have been a victim of that.

  • nlp is fucking creepy as shit

  • he is constatly talking about X he says for instance at 2:21 "I want x whatever that is or a really nice car like a BM, or an Xbox" etc. He is manipulating the other guys answer to be... BMX

  • Now I just wanna to learn psychology... Does that help?

  • There is a bunch of circles in the room.

    NLP plus Subliminal Messaging FTW!

  • Just wanted to say that I didn't catch any of that until afterwards. Either I'm too stupid to catch on, or I would need the contextual influence, the touching and the colors and everything else. I'm pretty sure I would have still said what I had written down though. I can be pretty stubborn and thickheaded.

  • whats the song called?

  • Fuck knows how he got the colour right tho.

  • @stuiham there are a bunch of red objects in the room, also he said red wine.
