does anyone else find Belinda rediculously sexy in a sweatshirt and capri pants? she was totally gorgeous back then. i always thaught she had that cool chick that lives across the street look. i wished she lived across the street.
It is funny when you go driving your car with this music on to see the younger people faces and asking themselves " What the heck is he listening to"? I love the 80s and the Go-Go's!!!!
In her autobiography, Belinda said she didn't like how she looked in the video. She's giving herself incredibly short shrift...I thought she looked great in the video. I like the claymation also.
i always cut my sweatshirts at the top to hang off my shoulder... now i look at the video and think, "really? you couldn't dress better than your PJs?" but i still adore the Go-Go's!!!
it's ok to like upbeat pop. it's ok to tap your toes to fun, goofy tunes. too bad everybody feels like they have to be cynical and dark to be cool. enthusiasm and joy are pretty cool, too. the go-gos didn't try to change the world, but they made some good, fun new hear now.
I'm reluctant to say that I'm a Go Go's FAN , because they did have some songs that I don't care for,.. but I DO like THIS particular song alot.
This one was not such a big " hit " either ( like ohh,.. Vacation, We Got The Beat and Our Lips Are Sealed were ). Goes to show that sometimes a groupes best songs can be their less popular and more obscure ones.
I have loved The Go'Go's since the album Beauty And The Beat came out. I have never seen this video until today so thanks for posting it :) 80's music FOREVER!!!!!!!
Oh, FUCK "cheesy " !! I actually LIKE the out-dated claymation here ( which I assume is what your refering to, right ? ). Hell, I was even expecting ole Gumby and Pokey to make an apearance !!
Loved this tune from the moment the album (that's right, ALBUM) was released and don't know how many times I've listened to it, but never saw the vid until now. Jane is just the cutest little hottie ever in my book! Come to me baby, I will love you, take you to my country of origin, buy you Levi's jeans...Oh yeah!
@Boodwin Well, I'll take her either way, .. chubby or slim, where THAT matters concerned! However, it wasn't the "scrawniness" that botherd me, .. it was the awful cum-sucking MUSIC that she got involved with after leaving the group !
The video for this and Head Over Heels are similar--they look like they were filmed on the same day or something--I love them both! Belinda is so cute here in a way that she never was after she thinned down and got "sleek"
loved this song when it was released as the follow-up to "Vacation" but too bad it stalled at #50 on the Billboard charts. always thought it should have reached the Top 10.
I agree...Who ??? repeat, who?? wasn't in love with these girls back then (and still today for that matter!!). Everyone I knew in high school had the hots-to put it VERY mildly- for the Go-Go's, the Bangles, Girlschool and most especially, Vixen. They will always make me feel young (again)!!!
Well done video. Four years later Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer video would be considered groundbreaking. Much of the tricks in that video were already done here.
According to some chart magazines at the time Vacation charted higher than the #8 position Billboard reported. I think it got to #2 according to Cashbox. Back then there were lots of chart reports besides Billboard.
Don't forget Honey Lantree from the British 1960's rock band, the Honeycomb (sort of named after her). Lantree has all the women drummers beat (pardon the pun) since she was charting as a drummer of a rock group at least 13 years before the other women did. There was also a woman drummer in the 1960's American rock (proto-punk) group named the Vejitables.
actually Sandy West drummer of The Runaways starting in 1975 w/ Joan JEtt and Lita Ford, is the first lady of Percussion. the runaways inspired other all girl groups such as the gogo's and the bangles (Mickey Steele being the original bassist for the Runaways ended up in the Bangles) Chrissie Hynde and others. But Gina Shock IS an AMAZING drummer, never skips a beat! She Rocks!
Actually, I Want Candy was written WAY before. You're probably only familiar with Bow Wow Wow's version of the song. It was originally cut by the Strangeloves, and was a hit in 1965.
This is a great song from a great band. So it's not their fault...that this may be one of the worst videos ever...they did as much as they could with what they were given....no wonder this song didnt chart well back when MTV drove the charts as much as the actual song content...oh well...
Oh, please. as IF you were there to make such an assessment! It charted at 50 in October of '82, which wasn't bad - considering it followed after Vacation which was a #1 hit. The video was awesome for it's time, even though by todays standards it's boring to you emo whiners - it was fresh and unusual when MTV was still the hottest thing on TV. Yeah, yeah, bad clay-mation. Get over it. For the time it was ballistic!
Belinda 'Flashdance' Carlisle pt.1 (pt.2 Head over heels) .. hahaha ! This was my favorite song from the album I cant say much for the video tho ..thought it would be better ..such is life tho haha !
I use to come home from school and turn on Nickelodeon and sometimes they'd show videos and this was one of them. I always thought it was soooo cool and it's go good to see it again.

get better as they get older, and BC is one of them.
