The silat originated from the MALAY ARCHIPELAGO, that include Malaysia, Indonesia, part of Philippines, part of Thailand, Brunei and others. Even some of the Malay Sultanates originated from Riau or Bugis or other part of what is now Indonesia.

They combine their local martial art with silat from Minangkabau and Aceh to make new genre known as Silat Cekak to protect themselves from Thailand and Myanmar attack hundred years ago. I would have liked to hear the Gamelan music the players were clearly performing, too bad we cannot hear it... the spirit of true silat is tied to the beat... as a gendang silat practioner... I regret the need some people have of changing a very ancient sacred practice.. as if to improve... what should be maintained without outside influences
