hope it never hits zero. But with the Japanese gov. and the like of Japanese companies like Mitsibishi whom own several "super trawlers", our oceans don't seem to have much hope. Japan kill on mass- whales, dolphins, sharks, tuna and other marine animals. That is just one nation. God help our oceans and god help us if it all goes!!!!!
@DeepAddiction47 The main problem is the excessive demand and the lack of education. Most of the people i know don't even know about this problem. Infact, i wasn't aware of this until 3 years ago when it came up in one of my studies.
@Yunghamz - oh really, well gee, thanks so much for clearing that point for me! Prehaps I would never have known that if you didn't keep me informed with your up to date finger on the pulse information. Maybe add greed to the list as well eh, which is the biggest part of the problem! By the way, since your obviously so well informed about this subject now what have you done to help the situation? Do you still eat fish? Or do you just spend your time surfing the net stating the obvious!!
@DeepAddiction47 Wow, i'm sorry for making you angry, you are obviously passionate about this which is a good thing and there is no need to take it out on a person who is on you're side. My comment was designed to shift the blame away from the "super trawlers" and point out the real problem that lies with the end user. Since you already know this and somewhat suggest that many people know that the excessive demand is the problem, why does that excessive demand still exist?
What are we doing??? Why people are so stupid? Why money rules of the world??Why why why????????why people want always more and more?? i dont understand that and i never do....
Most of them are proven to be endangered. They're struggling to survive. Cutting their numbers is not helping. There are other sources of food for people to go after. If the whale, or any other major animal, goes extinct it'll hurt the entire world's foodchain. So WE will be one step closer to extinction. Besides, whales are the second most intelligent animal in the history of the world. They're special and important. Pigs are nowhere near endangerment. Cows are even systematically REPLENISHED
I have practiced fishing for all my life, i live near to the sea and have seen how fishes disappear year after year....i still fish nowadays and nobody has to tell me about see resources abuse, i live them in first person. People wont stop fishing as long fishing retrieves money. In my country farming and repobling with farmed species has proofs of success. When we build roads we replant the trees, why souldnt we repopulate the seas in the same way??? Theorically it works.Ialso agree wih periods
Ive been a fisherman in a few different lines of commercial fishing and it is obvious things are getting really bad. Here in NZ our Scientific catch rates (quota) have been dropping almost every year . I dont agree with that guy near the end WE as humans a speicies of this earth definatly do not own this Ocean... or this Planet for that matter .

I haven't bought a can of tuna or a fresh fish, or battered fish in almost 1 year at the grocery store. I will continue to remove fish and seafood from my diet. I will continue to support the Sea Shepard Conservatory in association with Green Peace to stop the eating of whales and dolphins.
I will continue to learn to cook healthy non-animal food and advocate (kindly) to my friends and family how important our oceans and its creatures are.
The fact that humans were smart enough get themselves into a mess This Fu*king Big in the short amount of time that they have been allowed to play in the sandbox, must be mind boggling to any other advanced form of life in the cosmos.
Humans can & Will do extraordinary things which are befitting to their place in the Universe, without the vile consequences.
We have an update for you...and it's going to blow your socks off! Click on our name and see what's happened since you posted this trailer about "The End of the Line".
Someone posted this way earlier I think, but as the saying goes, only when we have caught the last fish from the sea will we realize we can't eat money.
That's the way it is with everything involving humans though--we'll never stop until we've destroyed everything. We're pretty fucking selfish, for all we pretend to be intelligent.
@foundapeanut17 On Sept 10th, 2010, Ric O'Barry (creator of THE COVE) will be hand delivering a petition to the US Consulate in Japan to pressure the gov't to shut down THE COVE ( the killling of Dolphins )...
@foundapeanut17 only when THEY have caught the last fish in the sea, chopped down the last tree on the planet, and killed the last buffalo will THEY understand that WE cannot eat money... THEY meaning the fucking disgusting capitalist swine who rule this world because of their wealth and power.
I swear to god, a revolution is at hand.. I feel it in all my bones, every fibre of my being. 6 billion people, one getting smarter every day - its just a matter of time.
I watched this movie and was extremely disappointed. They only showed the bad side of things. They only showed the fisheries that are on the brink. At the very end they mentioned Alaska and how they are a model in fisheries management, but only spent a couple of minutes on it. People need to stay well informed. I am an Alaskan commercial fisherman, and Iam proud to feed the world through sustainable fisheries!
Of course the solution is to eat less. For eating less there most be less humans, which country wants to shrink their population? I only heard about the China of several years ago, but now every country only want to grow and grow.
This is a MUST see documentary. We take absolutely no-worldwide group account on what is happening to our world-resources. The end seems inevitable, as we have proven again and again throughout our human history.
Human beings are a cancer. We are slowly destroying the planet through pollution and killing all the animals on it.But when the body dies so does the cancer.A fitting end really for such an over indulgent selfish animal such as us.
Try and buy sustainable fish from a monger, good farmed fish is the better option. That way it has been caught locally... NEVER BUY PRODUCTS THAT ARE CANNED, PACKAGED< OR FROZEN that have been caught over seas or belong to a global company.... Global companies such as ADMIRAL< BIRDSEYE<JOHNWEST are DESTROYING fish stocks.... Good farmed fish is a SOLID ALTERNATIVE.
Terrifying times, I do hope people insist on sustainably sourced seafood, it's the least you can do. WWF publishes a list on what's 'green', 'orange' and 'red'-listed, 'green' being the best option. I will not eat anything on the 'orange' or 'red' list and only consume fish at most twice in a month to cut down on my footprint. It all starts with you!
Great movie. People need to watch this and get informed about what they're eating, and what impact their choices are having on the world around us. We have to be responsible for the future. It's time we all became educated human beings instead of mindless consumers.
@heedthevil Exactly. And if you're unaware of the WWF status on the type of fish being served at your restaurant, don't eat it (or presumably you can sms a number for the status, I'm able to in South Africa). If it's tuna and you can't be told where it was caught or how, then best not to eat it. Pole and line is much more sustainable a practice than purse-seine nets and certain regions are better off than others.
It's not just fishing that takes away some of the various species of the world. Over-hunting/poaching (for example: deer, bison, grizzly bears, tigers, rhinos, elephants, etc.) on land is also an international problem. There are plenty of endangered species in the world right now. It's sad.
@BettiePie - deer, bison nor grizzly bears are endangered. In fact whitetail deer are severely overpopulated. Most animals on land are hunted as a reliable and scientific form of population control. Hunting these animals boosts local economies and prevents disease, starvation and car collisions. Even elephants are hunted controllably on the preserves because they destroy homes and agricultural crops. Please get your facts right b4 posting.
@BettiePie How is that ignorant? I am a certified wildlife and fisheries biologist who works with game animal management every day. What I stated are proven facts. Do some research then come back and explain how I am ignorant.
And that will happen maybe before, there is not regulation because everything we the humans do is for money even this documental is for money, so i will have no problem i'm not fisher jaja.
The environment, human health and animal welfare all rely on your choices. If you are interested in the issues raised in The End of the Line or simply as a consumer please visit Pig Business the film channel.
I know this may sound trite in comparison to the serious topics you are all discussing, but does anyone know how I might find the name of the classical music used at the beginning of this trailer?
Without serious depopulation of humans...having less kids I mean, has to be looked at asap ... The ocean inhabitants are our relatives, remember...all life has come from the oceans. My art practice focuses on the suffering of cetaceans and other marine life due to plastic polution, another reason to not eat fish...check out Georgina Maxwell artist
@junglljr.Everytime anyone speaks about collapsing fish stocks the Grand Banks are used as the model.... "If we dont do this or that, this is what will happen"..blah blah blah... Perfectly good stocks of fish that have sustained families for generations are portreyed as accidents waiting to happen. We all get tarred with the same brush by people who think they know better and its us the fishermen who have to suffer the consequenses of their ill advised descisions.
They also told us we could never run out of fresh water. Bechtel and other companies are now traveling the earth attempting to privatize fresh water....there are US states that are nearly without ANY fresh water....its stupid to think that we could just keep multiplying and destroying our resources in such irresponsible ways and NEVER cause any destruction to our ecosystem or our natural resources. Its not about catching the last fish...the last ones might die in toxic waste.
Once stocks of fish get to a certain level it will no longer be economic for anyone to go out and fish. It is simply not possible own a multi million dollar fishing vessel and say..."I think there might be one fish left, lets go out and catch it"
@captainwull. Please dont just look at what you see on the internet and tv and believe what you are told. Find out for yourself using all the scientific evidence that is out there. Sensasionalism is how they get people to listen, but it works the other way. Every counter claim is portrayed in the same way, and in the end while we all argue about it rather than take action, generations will be cursing us. Whats the worst that could happen? A better more peaceful world for us all!
@gmcg1973 I dont need internet scientific study or tv to tell me about the state of fish stocks in the North sea. I have been a commercial fisherman for almost 40 years and I can tell you the stocks of fish in the North sea are higher now than they have ever been in my lifetime. Scientists and conservationists will tell you different but I go out there almost every day and I know what I see. Every commercial fisherman will tell you the same.
@captainwull Hang on a second. You're seriously saying humans aren't impacting global fish stocks? You're a joke. You're just trying to defend your 'rightful' source of income, but here's a newsflash. If there's no fish, then you have no future. Fisherman are definately impacting on our global fish-stocks. It was once said that you could walk on the backs of atlantic cod. Recently, they did a study, and caught three juvenile cod from a 300+ hooked line. They never recovered. Because of us.
@captainwull Clearly it's impossible to catch the 'last fish', but what they're getting at is that the Fish Market will collapse due to an un-viable source of fish stocks. If there's not enough fish to supply the consumers, then the practice of commercial fishing will be null. That's what they're getting it. "Run out" is simply a term to describe the fact that we won't be able to consume fish ever again on the scale we're doing so now. People need to think twice about the oceans.
to all the people here saying this is sensacionalism, that nothing will happend, and that what goes on in the ocean doesn't affect human lives... the day you see your grandchildren dying from thirst, hunger, then i wanna see if you all still be thinking the same way. Life on Earth depends on the oceans. try living without it to see what happens to you. Everything's conected. Humans only live 'cause of the nature around us.
One day they will pull up the nets to fin they are empty and they cannot eat money.
The ocean's are at a precipice on the point of collapse yet politicians , fishermen and consumers (how an earth are we going to support three billion more people ?) are quite prepared to ignore all the science.
Look at the N.Atlantic cod fishermen. Ignored the warnings in the 1970s and now no cod stocks left to fish at all.
@Calvardeg I dont agree. I am a fisherman and I dont know of one other North Sea fisherman that would say there is a problem with stocks. What they would say is there is a problem with the science. The stocks and the science bear no resemblance to each other whatsoever.
Whats wrong with eating Whales??? Why dont you ask the Whales that!! or perhaps all the critically overfished Tuna species...I'm sure they dont mind being eaten by someone who cant see a problem with it.
There's no reason to worry about fish, for fish is generated by hands. Jesus showed me and i have been living with an abundents of fish for a very long time.
From an ecology standpoint, whales are a lot more important than cows, chickens, or pigs. Whales help maintain a healthy ecosystem while cows, chickens, or pigs do not.
Also, there are over billions of these animals worldwide, while there is no whale species population that exceeds 1 million.
@TheBumWithADuck - any abuse of any creature, such as factory-farming, keeping them in cages, animal testing and so on, causes disease because it disrupts reality at the most basic level, and creates abusive energy, which harms the soul and then disease can easily take over, as can 'misfortune'.
Brutality & evil like that emanates DOR (dead orgone), which is the beginning of the cause of all wrongs at the physical levels.
Whales are hunted because people don't care - as their souls are gone.
You completely miss the point: cows, chickens and pig are FARMED. Whales and all life from the ocean is finite and very near limits of innevitable collapse if changes aren't made and we all protect what's left ASAP. It's got bugger all to do with religion or the mental prowess of an animal.
@myorli29 Don't just stop eating it for a while--stop eating entirely! Or, only eat it if you know it's been sustainably fished (although that is honestly getting to be an oxymoron at this point--also, sustainably fished does NOT mean farmed because there is a whole shitload of problems that comes with that too).
Obviously the big ships with their huge fishing nets, doesn't give a rat ass about the resources of the oceans, this stupid people just believe those resources are endless, they just believe in one God and that is money, money is their God. They won't stop until it is too late, fucking morons, retarded! they don't have a clue how the oceans work. It is a living and breathing organism.
u dont even have a clue how bad it really is fucking chinees, japanees, koreans they over fish our seas and for what for some god dam shushi on a transport belt and if it doesnt get eaten with in 20 mins it goes to the bin perfect peice of fish wasted
Very nice.. good trailer. Very emotive but also enough content to make people ask questions.
On a conservation front.. well even in my time I've seen the seas getting a lot worse.. a bit "out of sight out of mind" to many. Just got ot keep showing people what's going on.
Forward the link to people! Post it on Facebook as your status update... etc. etc.
I can't believe how this can be a new field of research as they tend to display it. What about the countless people studying oceanic biology? What about all of the enviromental organisations? The facts about overfishing should be very, very old news, just the media presentation might not be that vast yet.
I think at some point it will be too costly to hunt the last remaining fish, so I don't see an extinction of most of the species in the ocean (not talking about whales, etc.).
wow really? your a frickin jerk! do you know the suffer that fish had to go through? ya i didnt think so you make me sick animals have rights too and feelings!!!! dont even put that up on a video like this cause your just being a jerk. so really grow up and stop thinking about your self
No I am Illuminati and shall inherit the planet freed from the destructive human naked ape who's meat eating consumption pattern must be stopped or else nature shall not survive.
Did you know I did surgery to remove the aging gen, this means I shall live forever, I bought a indestructable titanium harness with communication systems and laser waepons built in there. @DeepAddiction47 The main problem is the excessive demand and the lack of education. Most of the people i know don't even know about this problem. Infact, i wasn't aware of this until 3 years ago when it came up in one of my studies.
Yunghamz 11 months ago
@Yunghamz - oh really, well gee, thanks so much for clearing that point for me! Prehaps I would never have known that if you didn't keep me informed with your up to date finger on the pulse information. Maybe add greed to the list as well eh, which is the biggest part of the problem! By the way, since your obviously so well informed about this subject now what have you done to help the situation? Do you still eat fish? Or do you just spend your time surfing the net stating the obvious!!
DeepAddiction47 11 months ago
@DeepAddiction47 Wow, i'm sorry for making you angry, you are obviously passionate about this which is a good thing and there is no need to take it out on a person who is on you're side. My comment was designed to shift the blame away from the "super trawlers" and point out the real problem that lies with the end user. Since you already know this and somewhat suggest that many people know that the excessive demand is the problem, why does that excessive demand still exist?

Most of them are proven to be endangered. They're struggling to survive. Cutting their numbers is not helping. There are other sources of food for people to go after. If the whale, or any other major animal, goes extinct it'll hurt the entire world's foodchain. So WE will be one step closer to extinction. Besides, whales are the second most intelligent animal in the history of the world. They're special and important. Pigs are nowhere near endangerment. Cows are even systematically REPLENISHED

At the very end they mentioned Alaska and how they are a model in fisheries management, but only spent a couple of minutes on it. People need to stay well informed. I am an Alaskan commercial fisherman, and Iam proud to feed the world through sustainable fisheries!

It's time we all became educated human beings instead of mindless consumers.
heedthevil 1 year ago 3

It's sad.
BettiePie 1 year ago
@BettiePie - deer, bison nor grizzly bears are endangered. In fact whitetail deer are severely overpopulated. Most animals on land are hunted as a reliable and scientific form of population control. Hunting these animals boosts local economies and prevents disease, starvation and car collisions. Even elephants are hunted controllably on the preserves because they destroy homes and agricultural crops. Please get your facts right b4 posting.

We all get tarred with the same brush by people who think they know better and its us the fishermen who have to suffer the consequenses of their ill advised descisions.
captainwull 1 year ago
They also told us we could never run out of fresh water. Bechtel and other companies are now traveling the earth attempting to privatize fresh water....there are US states that are nearly without ANY fresh water....its stupid to think that we could just keep multiplying and destroying our resources in such irresponsible ways and NEVER cause any destruction to our ecosystem or our natural resources. Its not about catching the last fish...the last ones might die in toxic waste.
barbcinque 1 year ago
You can never ever catch the last fish.
Once stocks of fish get to a certain level it will no longer be economic for anyone to go out and fish. It is simply not possible own a multi million dollar fishing vessel and say..."I think there might be one fish left, lets go out and catch it"
The programme is pure sensationalism.
captainwull 1 year ago
@captainwull. Please dont just look at what you see on the internet and tv and believe what you are told. Find out for yourself using all the scientific evidence that is out there. Sensasionalism is how they get people to listen, but it works the other way. Every counter claim is portrayed in the same way, and in the end while we all argue about it rather than take action, generations will be cursing us. Whats the worst that could happen? A better more peaceful world for us all!
gmcg1973 1 year ago
@gmcg1973 I dont need internet scientific study or tv to tell me about the state of fish stocks in the North sea. I have been a commercial fisherman for almost 40 years and I can tell you the stocks of fish in the North sea are higher now than they have ever been in my lifetime. Scientists and conservationists will tell you different but I go out there almost every day and I know what I see. Every commercial fisherman will tell you the same.
captainwull 1 year ago
@captainwull Hang on a second. You're seriously saying humans aren't impacting global fish stocks? You're a joke. You're just trying to defend your 'rightful' source of income, but here's a newsflash. If there's no fish, then you have no future. Fisherman are definately impacting on our global fish-stocks. It was once said that you could walk on the backs of atlantic cod. Recently, they did a study, and caught three juvenile cod from a 300+ hooked line. They never recovered. Because of us.
JungllJr 1 year ago
@captainwull Clearly it's impossible to catch the 'last fish', but what they're getting at is that the Fish Market will collapse due to an un-viable source of fish stocks. If there's not enough fish to supply the consumers, then the practice of commercial fishing will be null. That's what they're getting it. "Run out" is simply a term to describe the fact that we won't be able to consume fish ever again on the scale we're doing so now. People need to think twice about the oceans.
JungllJr 1 year ago
to all the people here saying this is sensacionalism, that nothing will happend, and that what goes on in the ocean doesn't affect human lives... the day you see your grandchildren dying from thirst, hunger, then i wanna see if you all still be thinking the same way. Life on Earth depends on the oceans. try living without it to see what happens to you. Everything's conected. Humans only live 'cause of the nature around us.

Everything that's happening, including the destruction of nature, is natural.
It's no big deal.
Nature will run its course. If we continue, we will die.

As a Red Indian chief of the 19th century put it.
Ignored the warnings in the 1970s and now no cod stocks left to fish at all.

okay im japanese and i havent watched this video but i just wanted to say something
what the hell is wrong with eating whales?
(although i have never eaten one before)
isnt it all about religion?
we're not allowed to eat whales because they're smart?
because they're said to have "souls" according to the bible?
we are not christian!
we respect your religion so why don't you respect our culture?
so you guys eat beef and pork and chicken because theyre stupid??
dulcegirlable 2 years ago
No, it's not all about religion.
From an ecology standpoint, whales are a lot more important than cows, chickens, or pigs. Whales help maintain a healthy ecosystem while cows, chickens, or pigs do not.
Also, there are over billions of these animals worldwide, while there is no whale species population that exceeds 1 million.
TheBumWithADuck 1 year ago 19
now i get it :/
but the japanese government actually calculates how many whales we should get according to the data of whale population or whatever like that.
i do think asians are over fishing fishes but not the whales
agh i dunno :((
i dont know why the heck we eat whales...
i'm kinda starting to dislike my asian culture ;/
i can understand that it's wrong but we can't just stop doing it...
dulcegirlable 1 year ago
@TheBumWithADuck - any abuse of any creature, such as factory-farming, keeping them in cages, animal testing and so on, causes disease because it disrupts reality at the most basic level, and creates abusive energy, which harms the soul and then disease can easily take over, as can 'misfortune'.
Brutality & evil like that emanates DOR (dead orgone), which is the beginning of the cause of all wrongs at the physical levels.
Whales are hunted because people don't care - as their souls are gone.
DracOverLordHaton 1 year ago
You completely miss the point: cows, chickens and pig are FARMED. Whales and all life from the ocean is finite and very near limits of innevitable collapse if changes aren't made and we all protect what's left ASAP. It's got bugger all to do with religion or the mental prowess of an animal.
