  • Great songwriter !! Love he's music

  • Roger Hodgson worte the lyrics, knows what is being said and what he wants to say to the listener, while the singer/keyboardist for Supertramp without Roger is just singing the song. Its like and artist who painted the pricture and then the artist reproducing the picture for sale.

Love several of the music written by Roger and his messages in them.

  • Was never much into Supertramp, but sure is a difference between singers. Never changed stations on this song. Does bring back memories.

  • There's definitely no contest. Hodgson radiates far more love for the music and joy of performing than does his "replacement", if I may use that word very loosely. That's the mark of a real entertainer. I haven't even been into Supertramp that long so it's not as if I'm a fanboy or anything, but it doesn't take a fanboy to tell that one performer knows how to breathe life into every note while the other is just giving a rushed, rote performance of a song he doesn't really "feel" anything for.

  • great Roger!

  • Roger the magnificanto', beautiful voice !

  • Eres el puto amo.

  • Listening to this makes me feel like I'm a kid again, listening to Supertramp on AM radio.

  • Roger!!!

  • You....yes...you...need to re-listen to the lyrics to this song. Our following generation needs to hear it...and gain some ounce of understanding from it. I think I will have complete agreement on this post! It made a difference in my life...a really big one! From one song? Yep!

  • @Val.I didn't know there was a new singer

  • wowww ... isn't this a great song?? just love it.. thanks for posting this video

  • what u say....the original

  • what u say...the original?

  • Roger Hodgson is better, this interpretation is fantastic, Roger has a excelent voice

  • i feel like the little kid i remember in the summertime in the 70's....thanks a million''SUPERTRAMP''

  • ABSOLUTELY ROGER!!!!!!!!

  • I definitely like this version better!!!

  • wow that other guy was really dreadful and really lifeless

  • The band had to try to go on after he left

Life doesn't begin and end when Roger enters and exits the room

Of course he is going to do his song better than a cover artist, or band replacement

    that is a given

  • I just wish the audio quality was up to par.

  • not even close ! ???

  • who are good question?

  • cute but not supertramp spertramp more compelling but he cute

  • Well, if confused before, this makes it abundantly clear whose voice really shines, not to mention the guy wrote the song. Roger Hodgson all the way. The other guy honestly sounds like he just started singing. I'm really not discrediting him with that, I could just swear as someone who sings he's real green with the voice.

  • no need to compare , we all know who is the best!

  • Who's the tool?

  • Ouch Ouch Ouch Owch Ouch!!! Why would the cross reference be needed!?! Do you really have to do this? We all know the passion, voice and genius of the REAL Supertramp! Obviously I didn't stay for the second half of this posted vid. Ouch!!!

  • is the saxaphone player playing a tenor or an alto sax

  • Hasta el minuto 4:10, nada más.

  • I HATE that I cant find any SUPERTRAMP videos before Rodger left...It's borderline criminal

  • megusta mas ,,por. Roger¡¡¡¡¡

  • megusta,, me recuerda, ami juventur¡¡¡¡

  • The video ends at 4:11.

At least the part worth watching.

  • Please, why is this even being questioned.....really???? REALLY????

  • This guy rubs me up all wrong... What an awkward performer. I can't watch. Not even in the same universe, let alone ball park as my old trusty friend, Roger!

  • why this there like no supertramp videos on youtube,?

  • OMG can this new guy be any more off key. Bloody awful.

  • I listen to this song after i masturbate. This song is my Gatorade.

  • Roger is easily the best at this and most Supertramp songs.

  • Yep, this is the 'real' Supertramp! Sing it Roger!

  • Roger !!! the real sound of Supertramp

  • This song played costantly in my head during my short stint in the Military

  • From the very first chords of Supertramp's performance it's plain to see that something is lost... Mr. Roger Hogdson is a thousand times bettrer! Much more feeling, much more soul, much more everything! Supertramp is one of my favorite bands but I cannot avoid myself to tell that they are not even half of the band they were in their glory days... Long live ROGER HOGDSON!

  • Heh, when the horns come in in the second verse, they sound like Chicago.

  • Long Live Roger!!! :)

  • 2:00 Who is the sax player?

  • oh and by the way the second clip is recorded with two yoghurt pots and a piece of string...fucking pointless post this and the question is pointless too...just listen to the music and shut the fuck up.

  • I must say I really enjoyed Roger's performance. There was so much life and soul in the voice... not that there was anything wrong with the other fellow's voice. Both were excellent performers. It was just that the difference in this video was like the difference between watching HD TV and looking at a picture in a book IMO.

  • Watching him then and now, I find my self wishing I could talk with him and ask him what he has learned in these years. I loved it then, I love it now. Great song. Great singer.

  • It's like Rare Earth without Pete Rivera. Just not the same. Gotta go with Roger and his orchestra on this one.

  • Luv the sax!

  • No one can ever sing this as Roger can. Just saw him tonight at Epcot! He was wonderful as expected!!!!!!

  • he lives for his songs....listen

  • This guy always looks so happy!

  • Just fucking brilliant! No one, I repeat, NO ONE can sing this song like the master himself.

  • Friggin Awesome

  • The Supertramp version in this comparison is as flat as a flat tire.

  • This is a thinking persons song I still ask myself who I am 40 years on

  • I'm not going to take sides with Roger or Rick because I don't know everything that has gone down between the two of them, but I will say this:

I wish that they could get over it and get back together for the fans. I want to hear EVERY Supertramp song, done by the song's writer, in one show!

  • The footage is wonderful on the Roger & Orchestra and he's happy and involved like he always is at a great show... and the singer/keyboardist on the Supertramp video and everyone else involved is grim. distant and doing a job. No comparison... (If there's anything I can't stand it's when musicians act like they're doing a JOB... what the hell is the audience coming to FORGET... that they have JOBS!!)

  • @amerikanprincess You are dead on correct ! Hart is very weak vocally. But on one hand, what do you expect,, WHO could recreate Rogers voice.

  • @amerikanprincess very well said, it anoys me to no end when a musician isnt showing passion.

  • I défnitely prefer Roger, no question about it!

  • Awesome song AND singer!! (Rodger) Mark is a good singer but doesn't do justice to Rodger's songs. LOVE Supertramp!

  • It doesn't get better than this! Roger that is. Still a great song!

  • It doesn't get better than this!

  • the best

  • presentable vegetable, yep that's Liberals for you. Great lyrics!

  • ROGER!!!!

  • come on scooter!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mark isn't bad he's just not roger

  • i miss roger being in supertramp. it's not the same. and that mark guy can't sing at all....

  • ROGER, ROGER, ROGER!!!!!!!!

The new Supertramp singer (band that I love since my childhood) cannot sing; simple as that!

  • @VaLenderts totally right sounds like shit without roger..... what did rick thinking hiring that guy?

  • @VaLenderts I agree 100%

  • omg 2nd half sux lol

  • com'n let the live videos with the band back online....asshole..

  • where did they get this vocalist boy? mm i sing better while bathing..doesn't come close to Roger's voice or style

  • We try to have logic even when your sat on on the internet. There are some who really enjoy ruining a day ,if you let them.I try not to let them tho.

  • frickin awesome totally absolutely great great and beautiful;)

  • Also I turned it off when merk came on

  • This is rock and roll history!

  • Mark sucks!

  • When and where was this concert?

  • A true artist, psalmist, prophet.....awesome

  • My girlfriend and I, with her boss, went to see them in Montreal. There was no parking anywhere. But we found a spot in the back alleys. We floated out of the Forum and had to get the truck before they towed it away. For three days we worked in a trance selling software. logical...

  • so it's clear roger is better than mark, but you also take a very good version of roger and a very bad one of mark^^

  • not a patch

  • Id say these 2 versions side by side i woild choose rodger hudsons, but what i always liked about this song was the blunt feeling after everyline whih might be what you mean by mechanical. I always enjoy my favorote rock songs in conerct form which was a plus but on anotber note i liked the styx sax solo better

  • If you google images of Rodger Hodgson its hard to find an image where he isnt smiling! he is my life idol, he has no bad relationship with anyone from what it seems and he is always smiling and has a great outlook on life! if he was president of the world there would be no war!

  • Actually the song is wonderfull. I love both... Old Roger and young Supertramp. :)

  • mark hart really can't pull off roger's stuff it's pathetic.

  • Quit FRANKLY!!!! He sounds amazing, but he does not sound like Roger. He has brought a slightly different sound, which fits!! Rodger is Rodger!!

  • Mark Hart sound decent but does not sing as good as Roger Hodgson.

  • Don't like new guy - he has the emotions of a plank of wood!

  • The new guy sucks. (in the Supertramp Version)

  • The new guy sucks.

  • supertramp's new singer destroyed the song. theer is not point of comparisson among both versions, Roger's ten thousend times better.

  • Exquisite lyrics coupled with amazing melody....Roger Hodgon's unbelieveably talented. I miss SuperTramp!

  • No one can replace Roger Hodgson's amazing voice and spirit in all his own songs. I saw his concert last year(2010) and his voice is incredible!

  • Singer Songwriter is obviously better but it's better with Roger and Supertramp playing together

  • i'll show my children the song..

    This is a fantastic Song ((: <3

  • Original one rocks !! el único con este estilo de voz!!

  • Original one rocks.

  • theres just some untouchable emotion that roger puts into the song when he sings it. It sounds more genuine but the current Supertramp doesnt match it. Theres just something magical about Roger, Rick, Dougie, John and Bob together and its gone now.

  • I am i love..

  • Dude needs to learn to stay in key!!!

  • @MrGoodguyNZ No kidding! I was thinking exact same thing. No comparison to Roger Hodgson.

  • @tarnsand totally agree with you !!

  • just like the grand ole days!!!!!

  • sublime

  • God bless Roger who really is 70% of Tramp!

  • @Tsnore yes, he is 70% tramp, but without the Super, it truly isn't super.. why the f isnt John Helliwell playing his f'ing sax in any of these piece of #%^& solo pieces (and it is in pieces, compared to the original). It was the original that stayed on the top 10 charts in both the US, UK, and Canada for a month, not a Roger Hodgson solo performance...

  • @friedrichwiles exactly right...he may have wrote the lyrics but the tracks that went with all of those songs were a combination of the rest of the band...the arrangement would have come from all of them guitars sax bass...all to fuck now...and to be honest the song sounds almost the same when supertramp sang it without him..but it sounds shit here.

  • pppfffttt

  • I enjoyed the both, but Roger sounds better of course... more feeling - he owns it..

  • ROGER I LOVE YOU ....THE BEST 4EVER

  • Man...................phenominal

  • Roger is truly a musical genius.

  • The second guy can sing the notes, but not the music. Second one was ok, but he sounds like he's either using the wrong breathing techniques or singing without any soul. Obviously, since it's Roger's song, he's going to sing it like he means it, because, well, he does. Rick Davies just needed a Hodgson proxy who had a high voice. Though the second singer (I wish I knew his name) is inferior, he's not terrible. The real question is how would we feel if we weren't comparing the two?

  • Luv it with the symphony. Actually, I like the song no matter who does it - almost!

  • I have yet to see anyone come back and top their song 30 years later, eagles didn't, van halen nor any other 70's band. Roger you my friend have done it. You actually improved the song and made it so logical. Besides, who am I.

  • hard to compare when the audio quality of the first is so much better then the second, if the recordings were mildly similar it might be fair

  • At the first note we already recognise Supertramp,... fantastic !

  • The second guy is struggling a bit there..... Roger singnin FTW!

  • Comment removed

  • I feel like the second was a better performance, except for the damn singer. He was a douche.

  • Roger Hodgson would defeat anyone on planet earth that tried to go head-to-head with him in a singing/talent competition using his songs or anyone else's. So this second guy who sang Roger's "Logical Song" is actually very, very talented. I bet if he wrote a song and sang it he would sound better than he does here being compared to the Master.

  • One word, AMAZING,,

  • Comment removed

  • roger is amazing and obviously better than anyone trying to imitate him but theres 1 good thing about the second performance and that's john helliwell the only saxophonist that suits rogers songs imo. If john and roger toured together that would just be amazing.

  • Yeh OK...Roger FEELS the song, that makes the difference

  • I vote for Roger and his orchestra!! Way better than Supertramp w/o Roger.

  • Unico, no hay supertramp sin el, el es supertramp.

  • Roger....no comparison from a stage presence point of view and especially from a musical perspective!!! give him a guitar, or keyboard, with his voice and talent he can keep up a 2 hr show without any problem!!! The guys of Supertramp, even if they have all the "trimmings" are lacking the turkey, sorry.....I also cannot believe how out of tune they are! quite annoying for my poor ears.....I was born in 1979 so never really appreciated them as a group but I know which one I would like to work wi

  • @irfrapg Why did they break-up or did he leave on his own to pursue other things??

  • Roger for the win!!!!!

  • If Roger hadnt won it would be a total sham. He IS the voice of Supertramp. I love him. He's such a sweet man.

  • That sax player was hellish. He can't hit the same notes from the original song or what?

  • Supertramp- simply love them.....

  • Has the second guy had plastic surgery ? so that his lips and mouth can hardly move !!

  • Yes, the real one !

  • The guy singing in the second part is the worst singer ever....

  • Roger's version is _definitely_ better! I heard it (the same orchestra clip) the other day and fell in love with this song all over again. IMHO his voice is better now than it was back in the '70s.

I could hardly hear the orchestra on the second version at times, and the singing wasn't nearly as good. BTW, which one _is_ Rick, anyway? Is he the older-looking guy playing bass?

  • this reminds me of new orleans 79 driving down route 66, drinking beer, chewing baccy, frequenting whore houses. man that was some 16th birthday

  • @mrralvintwerp some sweet 16 you had

  • @mrralvintwerp nice picture

  • ROGER IS THE SOUL OF SUPERTRAMP . HE CANNOT BE REPLACED !

  • A bad cover..... without Roger

  • the band was better than the och

  • It is absurd ... but we are still fighting !! ! Stupid humans ! !!

  • How can u not love this song? I am in a crisis (what crisis) now .... lookin new job. Please confirm I am employable ... ???? Am I ????

  • I might be12 but I love them since I'm 4

  • The second one is awful. I wonder what it is, but only Hodgson has it.

  • Rick Davies is a good composer and musician but I hope that "Better Days" come, when he realizes it’s counter productive for his band to perform Roger’s songs. Mr. Davies shouldn't “rape this universe” (= Roger’s songs, rights and fans). Roger Hodgson cannot be replaced. All his songs performed by other people are only gray cover souvenirs of the original ones.

  • Without Roger Hodgson, Supertramp (i.e. Rick Davies) is simply a one-hit wonder. Roger should have been a solo act from the beginning. Then Supertramp could have opened for him during his European tours. It's amazing how Roger can so accurately reproduce his recordings during live performances, but Rick can never sound as good live on Goodbye Stranger as the recording. Not to mention Roger doing the lead guitar parts on the one. Rick uses Roger like Lamm uses Cetera to promote their tours.

  • That can't be supertramp on teh second take. That's awful.

  • Roger Hodgson is amazing. Having seen him recently, I was stunned at how great he sounds today. It was an amazing experience; he shared the history of his songs and played them from his heart. And Mr. MacDonald (who accompanied him) was incredible on all fourteen instruments he played at one point or another. Seeing him perform his songs and put on a brilliant and humble show made it clear that Supertramp is Roger Hodgson. Rick Davies should be grateful Roger Hodgson let him ride his coatails!!!

  • Dubbin this is amazing to see the Roger then Supertramp without him - what a difference. Sad for Supertramp. I love this song and the orchestra with Roger.
