  • @-@ Woah....so....SO difficult-sounding...

  • I love start at 6:00! :)

  • i love how he slows it down at 4:08. you know there's trouble :)

  • This guy's very good. I don't really know much about him, i'm not always big on classical violin...

  • i do like this arangement of devils trill, but im trying to find the original, or mabye a score for just the violin solo part for it,( might try and play it) if there are any tips on where to go [ just message me]

  • @1000bates I have the score to Tartini's original. It is written only for solo violin. Message me with your email address and I can forward the score to you.

  • @genmaximus110 i would like the score please at megadeth_flcl@yahoo.com

  • @1000bates go to imslp

  • i just whant to hear the very original or tartini

  • @zangetsu906 It's hard to find recordings of Taritin's original score. I'm lucky enough to even have the score. I don't have a recording of it.

  • I've only got about a sixth of this memorized, and even I can't play that part correctly. It may be a sweet song to hear, but it takes time, with all the two-chord notes and it's fast pace.

I'll master it though! --after all, I only started two weeks ago...--

  • @Maumiblue Me too I don't trill fast enough for those parts and I think it is easier to listen to than play but it is very beautiful. I started about a few months ago forgot about it I have the music somewhere. I love it I think I will try to play it again. :D

  • Awesome!

  • hi, is it possible if i get a copy of Tartini's original of the piece? even though i suck at violin, but i really like this song. Thank you

  • @zyde Yes. Message me with your email address and I'll forward the score to you. Yeah, it's not an easy piece, but even a beginner can begin to hack away at it little by little. I did! I'm still not good at it, but I enjoy trying.

  • holy smokes

  • I really hate Kreislers arrangement for this piece, it really shows his incompetence, he has not been respectful of Tartinis version which actually is a duo for cello and violin.

  • Actually, Tartini wrote it for solo violin, not a duo for violin and cello. And, yeah, having a career as an arranger is pretty strange, but Kreisler rescued this piece from disappearing into the abyss of Time, and I thank him for that.

  • No he hasnt. After his reelaboration of the devils trill a couple of filologists have found out that its a duo for cello and violin go check out IMSLP and see if its there, if it isnt, tell me and I will show it to you.

  • i wish there is a flute score...

  • @tearsangelz I'm studying composition at a conservatory right now, If you would like, I can make a flute arrangement.

  • ooo:D if its easyxDDDDD

  • omg, thinking about how fast the

fingers are moving on the strings

    and the notes, X___X

    Makes me frustrated lol

  • Music isn't all about playing fast. Maybe you'll learn that when you're 15 or so.

  • Going fast doesn't prove anything, I bet you'll never put up to someone if he plays Max Regers Chaconne.

  • Ole!!!!!!!

  • You should have listen the version of Kantorow, the most powerful one for this piece.

  • Perlman's version is better. This one is kinda heavy and slow in my opinion.

  • i am sure that you haven't play this in your life to say that, this guy is playing in tempo not like perlman who plays with too much rubatto and inconsistence in the piece please ask for the part and read it before saying something like that...

  • agree perlman is great yes but he takes way to many libertys at times. def. witht his piece. im playing it now a little faster that this but still to fast and you lose the intensity of the trills and dinamics

  • In fact, this is better than Perlman's version...'cause the shumsky's sound is more understanding

  • See, I like these versions so much better! The one by Vanessa Mae, although good, was not how it should be. The song is not supposed to be upbeat with a bass pump in the background... -_- Not that I'm saying anything agianst her, she's an awesome violinist, but, still, original pieces, GREAT pieces such as the Devil's trill should have the remixing kept to a minimum.

  • "The song is not supposed to be upbeat with a bass pump in the background." That's the understatement of the year! Classical music should have the remixing kept to ZERO. Whatever you think of Vanessa Mae, she is not operating within the realm of classical music. I would go further -- she's not doing anything of any musical interest. She IS making lots of money however.

  • uh....it's called classical rock....that's what she plays

  • classic rock is the doors

  • @Killerkurenai I agree the upbeat and bass pump tends to kill the the mood that tartini's version brought to life in the piece.

  • @Killerkurenai

I agree 100% on this. *nodnod* Vanessa's was good, and she is very talented to have learned this piece, but I found it much too upbeat.

  • I love this interpretation..!! its so awesome! the way he play the trills is so spicy!!!! god dammit i wish i could heard him playing Viotti or Viexthemps..!

  • You should hear his Ysaye.

  • that really is some devil's trill.

  • Great!!! thx

  • Thank you so much for posting. Fantastic piece and amazing playing - do you have Shumsky performing the Mozart sonatas? I've heard that is really beautiful too and I'd love to hear it. I would really love to have the sheet music of this. Please could you send it to me?

  • No, I don't have Shumsky playing Mozart, just some Kreisler pieces. Send me a message including your email address and I'll send the score files to you.

  • Really when we compare Masters, like Schumsky, with the violinists of today,is like the Diference between Space and...Earth!!Anyway,where they are now,the Great Masters, they are near to our memory....

    poicpi

  • I feel like this is pretty much superior to Perlman's performance. I actually prefer the slower tempo as the first time I heard this piece was a slow recording with a string orchestra. It's so beautiful...

Also, he keeps things in time a lot better than Perlman does, I don't like people who are overly playful with note lengths.

  • I am addicted to this music and this player!

  • I'm also addicted!!

  • can someone give me the sheet music please??

  • If you want instant credibility with a violin professor at a top conservatory, drop Shumsky's name. (Especially if the prof went to Curtis!)

Shumsky, the violinist's violinist! Total integrity, perfection of detail, phrasing that demands complete attention from the listener. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • 4:09-8:35

  • If this performance doesn't make you feel something, get your pulse checked. You may be recently dead. Shumsky has the tensest line this side of Heifetz.

  • Hahahahahaha.....my god! i dont think a response has ever made me laugh so hard! Truly, I know your're being doubly serious (no doubt) but just the way i imagine you writing those 1st 2 sentences is funny.

Hmmm, lets see....pulse normal...so i'm guessing not dead but you never know! ;-)

  • Youre an idiot. Nsimington is right. he Packs a wallop in an intese way. If you cant feel the music, then youre Probably a retard.

  • Then go back to Ljubljana.

  • This is amazing i wish i was this good

    T.T

  • Oscar Shumsky..the best interpretation!

  • It's really great the song... and really difficult to perform...

  • he looks a bit like Lu Xun(魯迅)

  • This is incredible. I'm just going out on a limb here but I'm fairly certain this was extremely difficult.

  • this version sounds kinda different from the other one version sorry

  • no

it's not the original, it is kreisler's one

  • Well the guy certainly has talent, but personally I prefer the slightly faster versions - I don't know, it just feels more alive when it's at a faster tempo, and it certainly requires a lot more skill. This version was fine though, but not to my taste.

  • I'm the opposite, for some reason. I much prefer this tempo to that especially of Perlman.

  • I get shivers down my spine hearing this. Just beautiful.

  • thanks for the video. in fact we are following the music piece with the Kreisler score, and we noticed some notes are missing from the shumsky's music piece he's playing. can you let us know something more about this marvelous Shumsky-----------thank again!

  • I'm not much a musician, but I think this piece is wonderfully played

  • yes, but it's a little heavy and slow.

  • no matter how many times i try to play this part i mess up with the 16th notes and the trills in them and the fricken grace notes...

  • I always have a hard time just keeping up with the general speed. I have to slow it down a bit and it loses that magical melody when you do. Plus, I tend to paraphrase it, putting minute pauses inbetween phrases and measures. This section is just so relentless and unstopping.

  • try to study it slowly and to speed it up piece by piece.

  • I didn't like this version as much, because I feel like its more performance oriented, and its more difficult for me to hear the soul in the music. You can disagree if you like, of course, but this is my opinion

  • I always respect an opinion when someone actually has one, which you do. Often times, on YouTube especially, people seem to dish out criticism without maturity and merit.

I think Shumsky shows an extreme ease in playing this piece. Perhaps that makes it appear to have less soul.

  • i like so much this vibrato!

    so beautiful interpretation

  • This is my favourate version on youtube, of one of my favourate songs in life. Thankyou very much for uploading this, I was extremely happy in finding this. Shumsky plays it so flawlessly for such a difficult piece of music.

  • I'm so sorry. I accidentally deleted the last comment. I can't remember the username, but it was a posting from Old Fogey, or something like that, about Shumsky's playing. I'm so sorry. I was going to hit reply and the "Remove" tab is right beneath reply and I accidentally hit it instead.

If you who wrote that comment sees this, please forgive me.

  • Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for this version?

I've tried doing it by ear and it just doesn't seem to work.

  • I forgot to mention I'm actually excited to hear this piece on youtube aswell haha :D

  • You mean Kreisler's version of this? I actually have both Kreisler's and Tartini's original. Shumsky does a couple doop-dads that differ from Kreisler's score, but not too many. For the most part, he is playing Kreisler's version. I could scan it on my computer and email it to you. Just click on my username and send me a message with you email and I'll get to work on sending the score to you.

  • This piece is alive again in me. I have been waiting for this perfect version. Oistrakh and Milstein's renditions are great but they lack the demonic element to them that Shumsky adds. I absolutely love this!!!

  • I'm glad I was able to awaken this piece in you again. It is quite a great version.

  • Fuuuckkkk. This is so good! Beautifull sound! So clear! This version is compiting with oistrakh´s.

  • I think Shumsky slightly has the edge re bow articulation

  • I think he does, too. But Oistrakh's is damn good, as well. That's why you need both. :)

  • Oistrakh's is good...but it's so similar to every other recording of this piece in interpretation. Milstein, Oistrakh, whoever; it's always so soft and peaceful. This version sounds very demonic...like how it's supposed to be, right? :D Still love the other performances, just prefer Shumsky's for my own ear.

  • Well the Devil IS a fallen angel. He must have known peace and beauty at one point, right? Still, this is realllly good. :)

  • Such dense, gutsy playing and wonderful pacing and intonation. Great playing. Timeless!

  • I'm glad you liked it.
