i do like this arangement of devils trill, but im trying to find the original, or mabye a score for just the violin solo part for it,( might try and play it) if there are any tips on where to go [ just message me]
@1000bates I have the score to Tartini's original. It is written only for solo violin. Message me with your email address and I can forward the score to you.
I've only got about a sixth of this memorized, and even I can't play that part correctly. It may be a sweet song to hear, but it takes time, with all the two-chord notes and it's fast pace.
I'll master it though! --after all, I only started two weeks ago...--
@Maumiblue Me too I don't trill fast enough for those parts and I think it is easier to listen to than play but it is very beautiful. I started about a few months ago forgot about it I have the music somewhere. I love it I think I will try to play it again. :D
@zyde Yes. Message me with your email address and I'll forward the score to you. Yeah, it's not an easy piece, but even a beginner can begin to hack away at it little by little. I did! I'm still not good at it, but I enjoy trying.
I really hate Kreislers arrangement for this piece, it really shows his incompetence, he has not been respectful of Tartinis version which actually is a duo for cello and violin.
Actually, Tartini wrote it for solo violin, not a duo for violin and cello. And, yeah, having a career as an arranger is pretty strange, but Kreisler rescued this piece from disappearing into the abyss of Time, and I thank him for that.
No he hasnt. After his reelaboration of the devils trill a couple of filologists have found out that its a duo for cello and violin go check out IMSLP and see if its there, if it isnt, tell me and I will show it to you.
i am sure that you haven't play this in your life to say that, this guy is playing in tempo not like perlman who plays with too much rubatto and inconsistence in the piece please ask for the part and read it before saying something like that...
agree perlman is great yes but he takes way to many libertys at times. def. witht his piece. im playing it now a little faster that this but still to fast and you lose the intensity of the trills and dinamics
See, I like these versions so much better! The one by Vanessa Mae, although good, was not how it should be. The song is not supposed to be upbeat with a bass pump in the background... -_- Not that I'm saying anything agianst her, she's an awesome violinist, but, still, original pieces, GREAT pieces such as the Devil's trill should have the remixing kept to a minimum.
"The song is not supposed to be upbeat with a bass pump in the background." That's the understatement of the year! Classical music should have the remixing kept to ZERO. Whatever you think of Vanessa Mae, she is not operating within the realm of classical music. I would go further -- she's not doing anything of any musical interest. She IS making lots of money however.
I love this interpretation..!! its so awesome! the way he play the trills is so spicy!!!! god dammit i wish i could heard him playing Viotti or Viexthemps..!
Thank you so much for posting. Fantastic piece and amazing playing - do you have Shumsky performing the Mozart sonatas? I've heard that is really beautiful too and I'd love to hear it. I would really love to have the sheet music of this. Please could you send it to me?
No, I don't have Shumsky playing Mozart, just some Kreisler pieces. Send me a message including your email address and I'll send the score files to you.
Really when we compare Masters, like Schumsky, with the violinists of today,is like the Diference between Space and...Earth!!Anyway,where they are now,the Great Masters, they are near to our memory....
I feel like this is pretty much superior to Perlman's performance. I actually prefer the slower tempo as the first time I heard this piece was a slow recording with a string orchestra. It's so beautiful...
Also, he keeps things in time a lot better than Perlman does, I don't like people who are overly playful with note lengths.
If you want instant credibility with a violin professor at a top conservatory, drop Shumsky's name. (Especially if the prof went to Curtis!)
Shumsky, the violinist's violinist! Total integrity, perfection of detail, phrasing that demands complete attention from the listener. Thank you so much for posting this.

You know the biggest problem with hearing emotion in music? The recorded versions hardly ever give you the full scope of it, and this version is really lacking on that count.
If this performance doesn't make you feel something, get your pulse checked. You may be recently dead. Shumsky has the tensest line this side of Heifetz.
Hahahahahaha.....my god! i dont think a response has ever made me laugh so hard! Truly, I know your're being doubly serious (no doubt) but just the way i imagine you writing those 1st 2 sentences is funny.
Hmmm, lets see....pulse normal...so i'm guessing not dead but you never know! ;-)
Well the guy certainly has talent, but personally I prefer the slightly faster versions - I don't know, it just feels more alive when it's at a faster tempo, and it certainly requires a lot more skill. This version was fine though, but not to my taste.
thanks for the video. in fact we are following the music piece with the Kreisler score, and we noticed some notes are missing from the shumsky's music piece he's playing. can you let us know something more about this marvelous Shumsky-----------thank again!
I always have a hard time just keeping up with the general speed. I have to slow it down a bit and it loses that magical melody when you do. Plus, I tend to paraphrase it, putting minute pauses inbetween phrases and measures. This section is just so relentless and unstopping.
I didn't like this version as much, because I feel like its more performance oriented, and its more difficult for me to hear the soul in the music. You can disagree if you like, of course, but this is my opinion
I always respect an opinion when someone actually has one, which you do. Often times, on YouTube especially, people seem to dish out criticism without maturity and merit.
I think Shumsky shows an extreme ease in playing this piece. Perhaps that makes it appear to have less soul.
This is my favourate version on youtube, of one of my favourate songs in life. Thankyou very much for uploading this, I was extremely happy in finding this. Shumsky plays it so flawlessly for such a difficult piece of music.

You mean Kreisler's version of this? I actually have both Kreisler's and Tartini's original. Shumsky does a couple doop-dads that differ from Kreisler's score, but not too many. For the most part, he is playing Kreisler's version. I could scan it on my computer and email it to you. Just click on my username and send me a message with you email and I'll get to work on sending the score to you.
This piece is alive again in me. I have been waiting for this perfect version. Oistrakh and Milstein's renditions are great but they lack the demonic element to them that Shumsky adds. I absolutely love this!!!
Oistrakh's is good...but it's so similar to every other recording of this piece in interpretation. Milstein, Oistrakh, whoever; it's always so soft and peaceful. This version sounds very demonic...like how it's supposed to be, right? :D Still love the other performances, just prefer Shumsky's for my own ear.
