My boyfriend worked in criminal "justice" at one time & they were actually taught how to alter the results of the test through heavy breathing during benign questions, so that the results on the graph for the benign questions would appear similar to the results on the important questions. This is why a polygraph's results are not admissible in court--because they are easily interfered with by someone who knows what he/she is doing.

Wait, at approximately 3:50, did the reporter say that lie-detector tests aren't foolproof? Yes, they are [foolproof]! The "Green River Killer" passed them and many others too.
I also believe the "examiner" can manipulate results or misuse the test in whatever form necessary. That's just my opinion, and I don't know that Diane actually lied during the test; she may have just withheld the truth, and doing that, withholding, is deceptive ...

@Brooke684 if th examiner isnt watching close it is possible to trick the lie detector with certain body movements. it really depends on how losely the examiner is watching

@AngelusX92 - I don't think I understand your reply. Doesn't a lie-detector pick up on the person's ... uh ... heart rate (for lack of a better term) and breathing-episodic behavior? When I see them administered, the "needle" moves intensely if the person is being deceptive; however, some people will believe their own lies so much that the "needle" will stay in place. You know ... like having a "poker face."

My boyfriend worked in criminal "justice" at one time & they were actually taught how to alter the results of the test through heavy breathing during benign questions, so that the results on the graph for the benign questions would appear similar to the results on the important questions. This is why a polygraph's results are not admissible in court--because they are easily interfered with by someone who knows what he/she is doing.

So, when asking a "regular" question, like, for example, "Is your name is Diane Zamora," the examiner may, could, will change their breathing to make it sound as if they're asking a "malignant" question (almost like a heavy breathing - for a "heavy question")? Does that make sense?

why would she say 'I don't "believe" the results of the test?" If she was innocent she wouldn't use the word 'believe' in that context. If she was innocent she would say the results were just plain wrong NOT 'I don't believe in them'
